^LOL I don't remember that line! But yeah it was a shame you couldn't just tell your dad and your bride that you're gay! I mean they could've still worked around that... you could've gotten a lecture about how important it is to continue the elven race (something you could disagree with but still be forced by your dad to go through with it, etc.).
Instead you evidently had to keep your sexuality hidden, which says a lot about the world =\
Like I said before, I think when Origins came out, they weren't too certain on what stance Thedas would have on people having an attraction towards the same sex.
It was weird, though. Like, I knew when I picked City Elf Origin, that I had a specific character pinned down for him, even his sexuality. But when I found out that he had to get married, I just picked the closest options befitting that of how a homosexual (who's intent on pursuing only same-sex relationships) would most likely pick. Which there were.
I think that now how Dragon Age has a more clearer view of how sexuality is perceived in the Dragon Age universe, they would've written this scene differently to accommodate for that. Not scrapping the whole "needing to get married and start a family", though, since that's just part of alienage customs, but probably exploring more dialogue options for a character you wish to envision as homosexual.
