Are we really comparing Space Jesus who can heal himself by crying about his dead wife to anything? Really? Star Wars doesn't make sense. Don't try to make it make sense.

It needs to make sense to compare it to real life. Vader probably has sweat glands, because he cried enough. Then the coolness of perspiration made him happy, so they burned again, but then that made him angry so the healed right back up, and so on and so forth until he commits suicide by Palpatine.

@CuriousArtemis: Oh, I'm a bigot, am I? Please, enlighten me: what exactly is it that makes me so? If you actually read my post you'd realise that I actually have no problem with gay people, I just find it a little strange that in a medieval setting there are so few people that do actually have a problem with them. Yes, I do realise Thedas is a fantasy world, so talk of realism might seem odd, but fantasy aspects are easy to accept because, well, they're fantasy (they don't exist, so they can't really be compared to the real world). However, gay people do exist, so with regards to realism I feel like it's okay to talk about them. Also, just because it's fantasy doesn't mean that it shouldn't have aspects of realism (you can only suspend your disbelief so much).

Am I 'bigoted' because I said that gays aren't normal? Nothing bigoted about that, I'm pretty much stating a fact. If something is 'normal' it conforms to a standard, it's typical, you expect it. Being straight, for example, is something that is normal; being gay isn't normal however because, well, it doesn't conform to a standard, it's unexpected. If you were to have a child, you would expect them to be straight because that's what the vast majority of people are, it would be unusual if they weren't.

Again, for the record, just because I'm saying being gay isn't normal doesn't mean I'm saying it's 'wrong' (of course it isn't). It just really irritates me when people continue to spread the false notion that being gay is normal (natural, yes, but certainly not normal); just because you exist, you happen to be gay, and there just happen to be other people just like you, doesn't necessarily mean that what you are is normal (plenty of paedophiles exist, too, but you certainly wouldn't say they are normal now, would you? And no, before you jump to conclusions, I'm not comparing/likening homosexuality to paedophilia, I'm just using it as an example of another type of attraction that also isn't normal).

If by 'normal' you mean 'acceptable' then yes being gay is normal in that sense; however I actually use the proper definition of words, therefore it's not 'normal' because it doesn't fit the definition of the word (this is something that you can't dispute, if you actually try to then you're deluded).

I've said my piece. If you still think I'm a bigot then that's your problem, I'm not going to continue arguing with you after if that's the case because I'd just be fighting a losing battle.

....Okay, this is getting really silly.  What does Star Wars have to do with homosexuality in Thedas?  We might want to reign this in a little bit.   :P

Maybe Thedas is on a planet that exists in the Star Wars universe.

There, now it relates. :P

Normal is a very abstract word which tends to be based on social standards. What you perceive as normal or not may seem normal to you (;)) but is it really? It's entirely possible for cultures to form without actually having any issues with homosexuality.

Read up on Bonobo apes and how they handle homosexuality as one example. Interesting stuff imo.

In a desperate attempt to steer this away from both bigotry and star wars, what do people think should be the next step in terms of LGBT representation in Thedas?

We have at least on (IMO) major NPC in Celene, and our lovable party members, so what's next? Maybe a functional NPC couple like Aveline and Donnic?

Ha that reminds me of Joan River's pitch for a new reality show. She wanted to put the Kardashians, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber and the Olsen Twins on an Island, make em fight to the death. And the show would be called, Who Gives a F*ck.

Ah Joan, what a legend, RIP.

YES. Since we are in Orlais of all places, I hope to God that they flesh out the culture in the country, since different sexualities seem to be much more in the open there. Hell, they have a gay Empress for Maker's sake. We could at least see maybe some openly LGBT nobles that may have a same-sex spouse or even some of the lower class do the same. DAI is such a golden opportunity because of the setting of this particular installment.

I like how companions can end up together if not romanced (Garrus x Tali in ME3 and Fenris x Isabela in DA2) but those have always been m/f couples. I'd like to see a same-sex couple do the same. As an example, say you don't romance Dorian or Iron Bull, it would be interesting if they end up in a relationship together. Something like that would be nice.

(Also, something--anything--that has to do with Celene and Briala's relationship being stated explicitly in DA:I would make me very happy, indeed.)

I really hope we see some simple lgbt representation in stuff like NPC quest givers. If we need to find someone's lost son, why can't it be two moms who give the quest? Simple things like that go a long way to normalizing lgbt characters in games, are easy to add, and would help show that Thedas is a non-homophobic world (instead of the developers just telling us it is).

Is Orlais that friendly? I mean, the nobility seem totally open to S/S couples, but I'm not sure that they actually have a concept of same-sex marriage.

While I really like that Celene is prominent and not straight, I actually thought her relationship was really unhealthy and kind of don't want her getting back with poor Briala. :P

That's a really good point. Really, they could just do it with background NPCs too.

One day maybe the Cammen/Ghena (sp?) set-up type could be an M/M or F/F quest instead. Though I suppose something like that would cause the internet to explode in dudebro rage.
