They don't have to ever consummate their marriage, could care less if they do
Pretty sure Gaspard's going to want an heir, and Celene isn't going to get to say no to him.

not too thrilled about that... but i value compromise over absolute warConsidering Gaspard already made the offer i see it as more then likely considering the position of both parties will only deteriorate the longer the conflict goes along.
It's a fairly simple and fairly bloodless way to end a war.
Unimportant. The terrible relationship existing to begin with was the offense. Fixing it is, in my opinion, the only possible recompense.
I would argue that the only way for a relationship such as this to be fixed is to stay dissolved.
And honestly, the idea that them reuniting is somehow the safe option strikes me as a bit daft. I mean, how is this safe? It's a wholly unhealthy, demented relationship that would be beyond repair if there was a lick of sense in the head of either party in this couple, namely the one whose family was killed.
After how much of a crapfest TME was, I'm not inclined to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt on anything related to sexuality. They don't care about social issues, they're just ahead of the curve in marketing strategy.
Ah, yes, the "rape" ending.
Can you please not do that bs
Again, I see no reason to trust Bioware to not wreck things further. Hence my advocacy for the safe option.
They could wreck Celena and Briala coming back together, too. In fact, given the dysfunction of the relationship, that seems very likely.

1) Celene was already willing to hook up with a man, Cailan.
2) Your idea of the 'safe option' is frankly sickening. Demanding Briala go back to the woman who murdered her parents and lied about it for twenty years just so a 'positive' S/S relationship can be portrayed is... there are really no words for how warped your vision on this is...
well the dwarves I think frown upon it only because gay people can't reproduce and their numbers are so low...
Truthfully I think most don't care although the qunari probably would since they only mate to have kids and not for marriage or anything if I remember correctly

Is she even still young enough to have kids?
I forget how old she is

IIRC mid-thirties, so still possible.

Isn't Celene in her 40's now? Seems like it would be better for Gaspard to remove her from power and then marry someone younger and more likely to produce an heir.
And if Celene were to win she'd either need to get on that RIGHT NOW or designate an heir already.
A murky succession is just asking for trouble and the fact that the Empress of the mightiest empire on the continent was content to ignore this issue for decades is a rather large mark against her.

That seems like conjecture. If they were so concerned about replenishing numbers, the caste system wouldn't be as it is.

Yeah itty bitty Gaspards running around.
I just don't think Bioware did anything egregious in their portrayal of Briala/Celene other than (1) it being a fucked up relationship and (2) continuing their pattern of dooming pretty much every major romantic plot pairing to dysfunction and disaster.
Every single lesbian pairing to dysfunction and disaster, generally via betrayal.

It's not a demand to either party in-universe, that would be ridiculous. It's one to the writers. I want them to fix their mistake in TME, and I don't consider it likely that Briala would find a newer healthy relationship falling on her.
Yes, clearly BioWare is extremely homophobic and their dastardly methods to show this are by having lesbian relationships end poorly.

Steel you know i enjoy a good tumble on the forums but i really see no positive nor even a satisfying ending to this.
If i were you i'd back out of it.

In fairness, the dwarves' adherence to traditional thinking gets in the way of their use of resources against the darkspawn as well, like how they still use this silly caste system to differentiate warriors, when any able-bodied dwarf should be ready to defend Orzammar at a moment's notice.

A mistake right....

Yes, but that's only because all the lesbian relationships in-game or in the books (1) are very plot relevant and (2) Bioware has so far not portrayed any non-plot critical relationship as being S/S.

Wait so if we don't like the direction a story goes it's a mistake?
That doesn't make any sense.

That is why I very much doubt they have a specific problem with homosexuality rather than just nobles and warrior caste members not reproducing.

See, I just view them getting back together as the mistake. Bioware would basically be OK'ing an abusive, exploitative relationship. That just makes it worse.

There are plot-relevant straight relationships that go just fine, like Aveline/Donnic and Rhys/Evangeline.
