I'm sure there are plenty of irrelevant background S/S relationships that work out fine and that we never hear about.
There definitely aren't. 'Cause there are no background S/S relationships in DA:O.
I don't think anyone is arguing that s/s relationships should be given a pass. We are asking for more than one s/s relationship that isn't tragic. Why is this a problem for people?
Because you [in general, not necessarily specifically just 'you'] keep acting as if bad things only happen to S/S couples and that Bioware is somehow going out of their way portray them negatively for nefarious purposes when that is clearly not the case.

Please demonstrate anywhere in this thread where someone has suggested that it is only s/s couples that end tragically. Because, I haven't seen that. At all.

/names a background npc couple and claims it works.
/then goes on to say it doesn't exist to prove a point.
Unless you somehow believe Master Wade and Herren are important characters in DA:O.

People don't need to say it word for word, just look at Xil's rant about Celene/Briala, the entire thing reeks of it. Especially insisting they get back together to fix the 'mistake' going against any sort of sense or decency.

No, but in the context of that post, "background" meant like, randoms in the background of the scene, not minor NPCs.

What people? None of you guys said it, and before someone like dave joined the convo, only Xil and I were talking about it, and I specifically pointed out straight relationships are **** too when they're plot important.
I'm sure most of us just want at least one visible stable s/s relationship in the series.
And apparently, asking for this is somehow offensive to people. Go figure.

I'm pretty sure I saw plenty of random filler toons of the same gender standing next to each other. Given that is basically what these supposed background M/F relationships amount too.
I think that there is definitely a trend here, but the problem is that there is such a small sample size, that's hard to say anything beyond that. I can only think of 5 s/s couples in the universe:
Leliana/MarjolaineBriala/Celene
Branka/Hespith
Nicolas/Julian
Wade/Herren
Only one of them seems functional. That's about a 20% success rate. It's not bad, but it's certainly worse than straight relationships. That being said, I'm not sure it means anything because, as I said, there are only 5 in the sample. Hopefully, there are more in DA: I and, even better, more that are functional.
You forgot Anders and Karl ^^ Although I never really understood what happened to them. Were they just messing around? Did they get separated? Did the relationship just end?
Gorim and his wife. There's one without having to even blink.
No idea what this is. I guess it's a heterosexual relationship that works out because he said he has a wife.

Posters have said that BioWare seem to think that more of them should.

I feel like I'm in this weird bizzaro world where what everyone thinks we're asking for is a quest where an NPC needs the Inquisitor to save his lover by using his heroic **** in the biggest gay orgy this side of Antiva.

How would we ever even know if these "work out?"

Playing Guild Wars 2 that has a visible lesbian couple showed me that people can really freak out about it.

Best quest ever - let's ask for it! ![]()
But yeah, I'm not surprised people got all defensive over it.

You asked me to provide evidence of a single o/s relationship that works out without the player intervening. Gorim and his wife are in a relationship that has no apparent disfunction or tragic ending and the player cannot change that. This is the proof that you so desperately needed. As to the importance of this proof? I agree, I have no idea why you felt you needed me to list one couple out to believe that they exist in the universe when we all already knew they did. But you are the only one who can answer that, I guess.
How would we ever even know if these "work out?"
That wasn't the discussion. It was just about whether they existed or not.

You were the one that brought up all these hypothetical background S/S relationships that apparently can exist and we should be happy about. If you recognize it's silly, maybe you can see why you shouldn't have brought it up to begin with?
I guess Bioware should have ending slides for every relationship saying, "And they lived unhappily together for a shot time until they all died in a fire. The End."

Gorim and his wife is potentially tragic if you rolled a FemAeducan ![]()

I brought them up in response to Dave mentioning the abundance of 'obvious' straight relationships in the background. By the logic of the point I was rebutting any two S/S filler NPCs standing next to each other could potentially qualify as a couple.
That wasn't the discussion. It was just about whether they existed or not.
How would you even know if those are not relationships? You have nothing but your opinion to go on.
I find it so weird that people keep using my real name in this thread.......
think of it like this my friend; your a leader heheI find it so weird that people keep using my real name in this thread.......

What do you mean what happened? Anders escaped, Karl hasn't. It seems he just didn't want to, like most of the circle mages.
That's not to mention that circle mages don't strike me as a rolemodel of fidelity to say the least, so whatever feelings they shared... well, freedom meant more to Anders (which is probably was for the better for both of them) and Anders meant less to Karl than his... I dunno, so-called safety in the circle.
