I remember reading that the Archon can also be the Black Divine, but not always, am I wrong?

Nope, they can't be. I used to think the same. There is a law forbidding it. No member of the Imperial Chantry can become Archon. That said, all members of the Imperial Chantry do have a seat in the Magisterium.

Hi everyone. Please do not discuss real world history

Why?

They're not strictly patriarchal. It's just that there has never been a female Archon that we know of. That doesn't mean there couldn't be one in the future.

Oh, back up there though... We can't talk about real world issues, but, ahem, think of a fairly prosperous nation that has never had a female ruler... ;) most people refer to this as the glass ceiling... the lack of female CEOs, etc. Women in positions of power... it's kinda the definition of patriarchy.

You're correct. I'm not sure, but I believe the schism between the two Chantries started when an Archon installed himself as leader of the Tevinter Chantry.

Initially, yes, technically it happened back then, but since the Black Age, the 400s, that has become illegal.

Why?

It's a major rule of the forum. Probably because it has the potential to end in tears, and also because it's a proven weapon of this forum's population of trolls. (These two factors are probably related.)

Now I am just lost, Eluvianus says it is forbidden, but you say it is not.

Going to have to reread the Tevinter chapter of World of Thedas to make sure.

Reading it right now.

"Archons are technically part of the magisters and used to be elected from the ranks of the Magisterium but since the Black Age this practice changed and no member of the Imperial Chantry or a magister can become an Archon."

Yeah,I just found that. The original Tevinter Chantry was led by the Archon, but that has since changed. Of course, in practice, the leadership of the Black Chantry may be under the influence of the Magisters.

Actually no it's not and a member already pointed this out.

Oh, most definitely. The Black Divine is probably voted on by the strongest and politically savvy Imperial Chantry members in the Magisterium.

That reminds me, it was talked about here on the BSN a few years ago, but did you guys know someone wrote a fanfic about Sten boning their Warden... then they changed all the names and stuff and actually published it??

It might be because we were derailing the thread from "Homosexuality in Thedas" to "Homosexuality in the Real World".

:)

There is actually no rule banning discussion of history. Nor should there be for that matter!

That is simply genius! :P

Seriously though, couldn't Bioware actually sue this person?

Should I just go ahead and say: "Nazis"?

Anyway - I'd really like to see the Dalish as bigoted toward homosexuality.

But the City Elves I think would have much larger populations as I've seen no sign that their numbers are forcibly kept in check (the odd slaughter by Orlesian Empresses not withstanding).

No idea! I mean, I would think, yes?? I think just letting her sit there in her swill of awful reviews is punishment enough

I'd not be surprised considering that they have issues with elves dying out.
