The Android, David, made this film far more enjoyable. I don't recall the actors name, but I thought he played the character wonderfully, stealing the show.

Michael Fassbender, aka Magneto. Easily the best acting in the film, probably because he has also the character with less stupid moments along with the captain.

Thanks for posting that. I really liked the movie and got most of the subtleties of the story but I never got the impression that the Engineers end goal was to transform humanity into something (Xenomorphs apparently).
Without the context that video provided about the Engineers mural, it's hard to come to that conclusion. I just assumed humanity was an experiment the engineers were conducting that had been deemed a failure and the black goo was the reset mechanism.
Watching the flick recently, Earth as a breeding ground/hoomies as hosts to the "bio-weapon" xenomorphs immediately came to mind as a sufficient motive when the cap'n character mentioned it. And a dose of lulz too, I suppose. Not much mysticism involved with either.
I could debate that they aren't stupid for removing their helmets like that, it's something they know, but you don't(until you read the webpage). It's their universe and technology, sometimes you have to have faith that the people in it know more about it than you do.
It seems stupid to you because you don't know that information, it doesn't make them stupid.
It's not as though that's the only suspect sequence. Let's not forget why the cap'n decides to leave the lost geologist- and biologist-dudes unmonitored, or just why none of the rest of the crew bother taking over meanwhile...
Plenty of stupid to go around, all things considered.

Damnit, I knew I shouldn't have gotten in this conversation I haven't seen the movie yet so most of my knowledge comes from synopsis online and the video posted earlier.
Was that during the storm that was making tracking them difficult?

well they had to make a movie that assumed most people did not dive into the oceans of wiki pages and hidden comic books and the lost pyramids of Atlantis
most of the lop holes could have been easly waved away with a simple line or 2 and im sure actors don't charge by the line
example:
"I'm detecting breathable atmosphere and the suit is indicating zero foreign contaminants" TADAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
replace pot smoking "SCIENTIST" i have nothing against people frying thier brains but plz if they start placing stoners on space missions COUNT ME OUT
replace biologist that is scared from 10 billion year old corpses but jumps in bed with a weird peneis alien snake
give the engineers more dialog than ARGGGG WAAAAAAGGGG WAAGGHHHHHHH

I think the movie would probably have been better if they'd stuck to the original Spaihts script and not let Lindelof perform an unnecessary rewrite.
Of course, Ridley Scott is just as culpable, because this is the guy who decided he wanted to film that final draft. Not to dismiss him as a director or storyteller because he has done some great work, but it always amused me that Prometheus was heralded as him returning to the world he created, when if we're all being honest, James Cameron is the guy who really made the Alien franchise what it is best known for with Aliens.
But regardless of the guy in the directors seat, we need better script writers. Is it any wonder that a lot of anticipated films bomb or end up critical failures, if the film industry keeps hiring the same bunch of guys to write every major blockbuster script under the sun?

I haven't seen the movie but I like your rant. You seem to get bothered by the same similar nonsense in a story as I do XDok... the movie Prometheus .... which I never wrote anything about, I just have to say this...
the "scientists" were the BIGGEST bunch of retards I have ever seen.... like WOW ..... the biggest most incompetent group of people to ever travel in space, JUST WOWWWWWWWWWWWW...
ohhhhh I hear a weird noise outside the space ship on an ALIEN planet that has weird XENOmorphs running around lets CRACK this sucker open and check it out : / YEPIIIIIIIIIII
ohhhhhhh an alien life-from that might explode acid farts in my face.... im gonna go ahead and pet it LALALALALAL Im gonna name you fluffy .....
ohhhhhh so many buttons on an alien ship that might activate a security system that might melt everyone alive.... F*&^^ it I'm gonna press all of them.... OPS turns out the alien ship was going to wipe out all life on earth from orbit ... MY BAD ......
ffs JUST WOW
I mean the movie would have been AMAZING if it was not for the HORNY, 3rd grade level intellect, incompetent "CREW" of a SPACE SHIP that cost like a TRILLION DOLLARS
the movie felt like a slasher flick tbh

If the goo was specifically design to create xenomorphs then that makes even less sense.
The Engineers want to create an incredibley hostile lifeform that can only reproduce by implanting and killing its host because .... reasons.
Their motivation is not explained (but I think it's religious), it's just a bioweapon. Bioweapons are extremely effective since they're self-propagating. A lot of their tech seem organic so it's what they do.

Yeah, while Alien is a great horror sic-fi film, Aliens is what really sold me on the franchise, it really helped develop the character of the Xenomorphs into something more than just a scary monster. The alien hierarchy, their life cycle, their obvious intelligence, and their (or at least the Queen's) capability for sentient thoughts and motivations (revenge) really helped elevate them from scary alien monster # 573 to the cultural icon they are today (IMO).
The engineers and black goo of Prometheus …. not so much.

Presumably just to keep the "Mystery" alive.
The two Engineers thing. No. That was never a thing. There are two factions of Predators if that counts for something.

Ridley Scott retired the xenomorph (we won't see it again), but I don't know if we will see the engineers again. Maybe there will be other humanoid aliens Shaw will come into contact with (which given the standards of this story would be plausible). I think the focus may really be on A.I.s. And I think they are supposed to be the good guys in this story. Annalee Call (Resurrection) made the statement that some free willed synthetic persons were trying to save Humans from themselves...from the xenomorphs. That's a story I would enjoy, where the A.I.s are not the bad guys.
Did Ridley Scott say that he retired the xenomorph somewhere? I admit that I haven't been keeping abreast of all Ridley Scott/Prometheus news, but did he really put a stop to ever dealing with the alien again? Aside from the fact that the xenomorphs are a cornerstone of the setting that Prometheus is based in, there is still quite a bit of ground to cover in at least explaining the Engineer ship on LV-426 in the first Alien movie.
As far as A.I.s are concerned, unless Shaw makes it back to Earth she will only really be dealing with David and maybe some Engineer based A.I. The story is going to have to make quite a few leaps to show how Shaw would consider David a good guy (she is the main character after all, and the audience will be empathizing with her), especially since he was the one that murdered her boyfriend just to see what the black goo did to humans.

Here you go. His words...“The beast is done. Cooked”. He is no longer focusing on the xenomorph.

I highly doubt that the giant albinos can even come close to the impact and iconic screen presence that the xenomorphs had.

Blame Sigourney Weaver.
She's the reason we haven't gotten a real Alien movie to redeem the franchise after AVP Requiem.
Because no one wants to pay her 25% for a movie she wouldn't be in.

Ya she did... and it was glorious!
I just started the new Alien Isolation game and within the first 10 minutes the main character, Ripley's Daughter Amanda(I think?), is in a very similar outfit.
It's an FPS...
... and there are no mirrors on the ship!

Sigourney Weaver owns partial rights to the Alien franchise. Meaning even if she's not involved with the film she's entitled to 25% of the income by law.
Nobody wants to pay her greedy ass. Hence why Prometheus dropped the title of Alien: Engineers.
Which is a shame.
