What's with all the whining over Varric jumping?

He was doing the same thing in DA2 with the Evade ability...

It still looks less realistic than DA:O's combat.

DA:O's combat was a nightmare. At least DA II managed to be fun for awhile.

Game looks and plays gorgeously, all this nitpicking is probably going to lead me taking my Inquisition BSN/Youtube/Articles hiatus because there's nothing I hate more than negative comments on something I'm trying to enjoy >.>

I do have one complaint though, they should've flied in one of OUR youtubers; Ashe, Gamermd, scottish warrior and AD. Or at least someone who has any clue what they're doing in an action RPG. Advertising the game by previewing terrible gameplay by the player will give people the wrong impression about the game and those awful comments are coming back "Oh noz wherez tact cam!!11!! EAware sucks".

I'm also loving the combat, a combination of tactics and action is exactly what defined the series combat to me, in fact Bioware games in general, neither tactical camera alone nor real-time action alone. Combat animations are much better than previous games, DA:O was far too slow (and unrealistically so.. If anything its simply the effects that are more 'realistic' in DA:O, but comon it's a fantasy game), DA:2 was better but far too fast to be enjoyed. Some of the special effects are overdone imo but I won't pick on that because it still looks really cool.

What good would appealing to an already established base do? They know we're going to buy the game, good or bad. EA is in the money making business.

Also, who reads YouTube comments? The only thing worse is porn comments. For the most part it's the lowest common denominator of plebians.

Could not agree with this more. These are marketing videos hoping to gain the interest of new players, not fan service for the faithful.

Looks like RPG's aren't rechyyy's strong suit  He is class at shooters though, if your interested you guys should defo check him out.

As for the Video, didn't show nottin new or anything we didn't know.

A big green forest... hurray? Hope they show off some of the more erotic environments off before release. Because there is an environment like this in EVERY RPG EVER. Yes frostbite looks good but show us what you did with it. Almost every environment you have shown off so far looks generic as ****.

IMO the real time combat looks like absolute ASS. A clunky, stiffly animated cluster **** where no one knows what the hell is going on.

Show a TAC-CAM HEAVY gameplay video please. You know, so we can see these combat mechanics actually shine?

Just get someone within Bioware who is really good at the game & record him or her playing on nightmare.

This video came off as a glorified Frostbite tech demo for PC nutjobs to ****** to as they fantasise running the game MAX settings on their Rig. Not saying that's strictly a bad thing but there is a time and a place for that sort of stuff & its post release  :police:

I made myself clear that at  least they should bring someone who actually plays action rpgs, someone for example who plays dark souls not CoD and BF. It ended up posting a video that has the poorest combat preview (that completely disregarded a few of the games main combat mechanics) I've seen in my life and it's led to the negative perception of viewers, even if they were a few it shouldn't even be something that happens.

The point of the exercise appear so to be exposing the game to people who don't play action rpgs to say, "hey look at this".

You do that by getting YouTubers with a sizable subscription base to expose the game for you and give their impressions, because subscribers who follow them do so becasue they respect this guys opinions. Him playing it and saying, "yeah I died a lot but it was really fun" is a lot more effective than him saying "here's a video of some dude playing DA:I."

EDIT - Hit Post too soon :)

Also, the only real negative perceptions I've seena re by people who know that the gameplay was bad, i.e. people like those here on BSN who are mostly already sold on the game.

if you are still undecided at this point, with all the content we've already seen, its probably best to wait post release until "Our" YouTubers have posted their gameplay vids.

Why no keyboard and mouse?

Some people prefer using a controller. Using a keyboard and mouse for anything that requires quick reflexes for more then half an hour hurt my wrists.

Outside of our little bubble the Dragon Age series has a bad perception in a lot of people's minds, and Mass Effect 3 didn't help. Those people are going to hate BioWare games regardless and that's what you're seeing in the comment section.

The criticisms about the ridiculous backflips, speed of the game and this guy's level of play are valid, but the people they (BioWare) are trying to appeal to by doing this are people  who likely don't care about any of that, because they don't play RPGs to begin with.

You're not getting the point. We've been eager to see PC UI (mouse and keyboard) in action for months literally. Then it goes - 8 mins long video "PC gameplay". Yet again, with a console gamepad as a controller. And thanks to youtube, video quality is too dirty to be called "impressive" from the graphics point of view.

Who cares what people think about Varric, I for one love the fact that he can use a chain and jump to them with his manly chest hair then flipping back.

I like the chain and the backflips, I just think they're too fast. This is especially important to me because my Inquisitor is a Dwarf Rogue.

The thing that really bugged me about the video, if I'm honest, is the fact that I have to put down that damn Andraste thing. I get that it's just being diplomatic and doesn't really require your Inquisitor to be a super pious Andrastian, but still.

DA2's combat was a tedious chore with aspirations to parody. Meanwhile, DAO's combat is still somewhat engaging after five years.

Those backflips and other similar moves just break my immersion and make me feel I'm in a parody. Hopefully they'l at least not make spirits flip this time.

"Max Graphics. PC Gameplay"

The graphics look good and the game play looks smooth in the video, but it doesn't look any better than the videos I've seen.  They've all looked really nice in detail.  I imagine if you have a great PC with all the bells and whistles, you'll manage a nicer display.  The graphics and game play should be amazing for consoles as well.  A good comparison would be Assassin's Creed for PS4.  The first game I got for my new console and it looked absolutely beautiful.  The game ran very well with almost no loading times at all.  DA:I should be no different from what has been displayed in the many videos to date.

Both PC users and next gen console users are in for a real treat.

Fair enough, but you're in a nearly unquantifiable minority. Doesn't mean you're wrong. There are aspects of Origin's combat that I prefer to II as well, but I wouldn't dream of a regressive approach to game development.

I hope Varric backflips off all this negativity and starts shooting out bolts enchanted with good vibes runes because this is a video game, y'all.

Putting aside the fact that he is a master thief, one of the best shots in the world, and has had to stay alive for his entire adult life based only on his quick wit and quicker reflexes...we're playing a game where you can freeze someone with your mind, rogues literally turn invisible when they stealth, and bows can be on fire without burning the archer.

So yes, realism is neat and can add to the allure of a game but fantasy combat is meant to look cool first and foremost and is there to represent what's happening in a way that keeps the player interested. Play Civilzation if you want to watch medieval reenactments. I'm playing a game with dragons and demons in it.

This looks so good though! Only seven days until it's one month until we can pre-load the game from Origin!

(Edited to say that I have not played a Civilzation game so just imagine I used another appropriate example if there happen to be dragons and demons in it.)

I rather think it's a significant percentage of players who didn't like DA2's combat, but no, I would not want to go back to DAO. I want things to get better though, not worse. Having said that, they appear to have changed the combat encounter design. That was the biggest downside to DA2's combat. There is also noticeably more weight in most moves, as they said. Good. I like it. All in all, the combat looks ok and if it's still too fast for my taste, I can use the tactical view.

However, they apparently kept some of the silly, over-the-top combat animations for mages and rogues. Combat moves that make me facepalm every time I see them are a significant downside. I want to take this story somewhat seriously. It's like expecting Alien and getting Spaceballs.

Quite a lot of people really didn't like DA: 2's combat, actually. I don't know which opinion is the minority or majority, but it wasn't clear cut in the least.

I think thats more an exploration thing rather than an Andrastian thing. The journal dialogue on the right said "Landmarks 2/22". Landmarks might well be "Here fell mighty Dubbie McTavish, inventor of Chain Mail Briefs"

I guess even if it IS an Andrastian thing exclusively you can choose not to do it. Seems like fluff xp rather than plot pivitol.
