Quite a lot of people really didn't like DA: 2's combat, actually. I don't know which opinion is the minority or majority, but it wasn't clear cut in the least.

Oh I wasn't saying people neccessarily liked DA II's combat any more. I was just saying that not many people liked Origin's combat as much as Ieldra did. Heck, I even quite liked Origin's combat for what it was, but it was very slow and even felt dated at the time.

I must agree that combat still looks a lot like DA2, specially on the ability/spell gfx department. The combat animations and movements seem to me more realistic and believable than those of DA2, except for some like varric backflipping or the stealth ability (i would have liked something more like Tallis in DA2)

I hope the over the top gfx can be turned down with modding, because it is the big explosions and glowing stuff (i know DAO had glowing too, i just removed it with mods) that breaks the game for me, and makes me thing i am playing Final Fantasy.

The environment however looks great, as do the animals or basic enemies that look quite realistic. The main offenders are actually the party members and the player who keep using abilities that destroy the believability of the setting.

Sword and Board was very tedious in DA:O. It was much more fun in DA2 in my opinion.

Its always going to be a flavour thing, this. I don't feel that more stylised combat is going to detract from the immersion in the story if the narrative is well written.

The overuse of the particle effects is a early gen problem, not a development problem. People have all these fancy new things and they can't help but to use them. I suppose if it bothers you bad enough you could turn down the GFX or get the last gen version on PS360. lol

The answer's in your question. The video's demonstrating PC 'graphics', not performance. It's about the visuals.

It does not make any sense, because 20-30 fps can ruin even the top-most-perfect-detailed graphics. Both are equally important. Demo did not look too smooth to me.

What does 'dated' even mean in this context? 'dated' is a word to be used when there is clear, quantifiable progress, such as with pc hardware or graphics. There is no one way to make better combat, so how can combat possibly feel 'dated'? Or does it simply mean: It feels like combat of older rpgs? If so: dated combat, hell yeah!

You're not getting the point. We've been eager to see PC UI (mouse and keyboard) in action for months literally. Then it goes - 8 mins long video "PC gameplay". Yet again, with a console gamepad as a controller. And thanks to youtube, video quality is too dirty to be called "impressive" from the graphics point of view.

What I'm saying is that the person actually playing the game may have in actual fact been given the choice between M&KB or controller and he took the controller.

weakling.

I play to have fun. Not develop repetitive strain disorder.

Hasn't been true in previous videos.

*shrugs* It may have been a part of the deal EA made with Microsoft. The fact of that matter we don't know.

It is just me or Cassandra looks a way more small? even the way she walks seem different.

I am not liking this at all why must all the female characters be forced to conventions. Isn't Cassandra suppose to be the battering ram that destroys gates alone with her might?

I get the impression that the alpha build was a way better even in regards to animation.

720 P is not ''max pc graphic''. Does not look like PC. Anyway. Plus I hate looking at someone playing on easy mode. Every enemy seem to be just fodder waiting to be farmed.

Sure but she looked a lot more powerful in the past gameplay videos. In this one she looks nothing like that.

Is there a reason, other than input method snobbery, that folks are deperate to see the same game with the same graphics demonstrated with a KB+M? There was a UI screen shot posted the other day - instead of abilites firing and going into cooldown on a circle, it'll be along the toolbar ... as always. What am I missing here?

Oh and before the 'peasant' accusations start flying I should point out that I'm long standing member of the pcmasterrace and have always played with KB+M. Just not sure what is bringing people to the verge of aneurysm about not seeing it.

Not gonna lie . I'm not impressed. Some of the character animations look strange. The graphics are decent but it looked somehow better in the last gameplay vids.. Can't believe this is pc gampelay on max settings. The combat looks to "hack n' slayish" (hope the game was played on easy) and way too much over the top (hope there is at least an option to turn down the effects) in both animations and visuals.

I have to agree it looks like a downgrade, especially on the animations department, lighting and gameplay.

This is a strange one, it seems EA are going after the shooter crowd? Why else fly out a relatively unknown YouTube who primarily posts videos of shooters who hasn't played a RPG for 12 years, never played Dragon Age Origins or 2. Maybe it's so he has no basis of comparison, it seems all a bit odd.

Not sure what's odd about it, it's not like they are showing anything new besides the area. They just wanted to show a non dev playing.

I'm curious when we're going to see the pc specific stuff this week.

If modding is possible for DAI, I forsee a future mod that makes wildlife invulnerable. :D

It will be called the Stop Cameron Lee mod.

I really don't think the Console UI is clunky. It's not as out-of-the-way as the PC one is, but it still works quite well. Mostly the same as the previous games UI, and I've never had a problem.

I think Cassandra looks alright - I think the camera was closer in in the old demos, which might be influencing how she looms lol.

Varric flipping looks a little goofy, but I'll live with it. I don't care if combat is entirely realistic as long as it doesn't go off the deep end (has yet to for me). Also, that dude was using moves involving flipping in quick succession as if they were a combo which made it look more frantic than it actually has to be - he was pulling himself in and then flipping away.

I really hope this not not max settings for PC, I have a really bad feeling and the delay with the system requirements make it even worse.

I find it hard to get a feel for combat when people are interacting with it in a quite different way.  I don't know how much of what I'm seeing as different is simply down to the difference interface.
