Well I am about to start a Mage build (NOt AW) Just a Regular mage with good AoE / CC spells.
For the team im thinking im going to us - MC (SH/BM) / Alistair (Templar/Champion) / Leliana (Bard/Ranger) / and for the last slot i was thinking of using Shale (Off-Tank)

For the MC i was wondering what are some good robes i could use and where do i get them? (What's a good mage helm, never seem to find any)
What spells should i be looking for as I've never really done mages well?

Anyways please and thankyou

MAGE GEAR:

amulet: spellward. The willpower boost is phenomenal

Staff: staff of the magister lord, massive willpower and regen. Keep one fire based staff for resistant enemies

Robe: reapers vestments (defense) or first enchanter robes (offensive). If you have the DLC, robes of avernus are good for blood mages

Belt: anduils blessing

Rings: a few choices:

Key to the city for all round goodness, lifegiver + blood ring will make you a very powerful blood mage, or ring of ages for defense

Gloves anything that gives +20% damage to your favorite primal line

helm: libertarian's cowl

boots:enchanter's footing

Note that the majority of the above items are BOUGHT, not found. So don't waste a dime on anything other than end game quality gear, and arcane spell tomes.

Okay, basically, three groups of spells that are great for caster mages:

Healing

- Heal line up to Regeneration

- Spirit Healer line up to Revive

Crowd Control

- Glyph line up to Repulsion

- Sleep line up to Sleep

- Blood Magic line up to Blood Wound

- Grease line up to Grease

- Forcefield line up to Crushing Prison

Damage

- Fire line up to Fireball

- Cold line up to Blizzard

- Electric line up to Tempest

- Walking Bomb line up to Virulent Walking Bomb

- Mana line up to Mana Clash

You may want to look at getting the hexes too. Obviously, you won't be able to get ALL of that.

Crowd control wise, you won't want ALL of those spells. I usually get the Glyphs and Blood Wound, on a PC, and get Sleep + Crushing Prison on Morrigan.

Damage wise, you can get most of them. I often get Blizzard, VWB and Tempest on Morrigan, and Fireball, Cone of Cold, Mana Clash on my PC.

You can end up with most of those spells between two mages quite comfortably. I really like Revive personally, many people don't bother with it much, so it's up to you. I sometimes get Lifeward, it isn't half bad (especially against Grab/Overwhelms, when your Heals are on CD).

I have only 4 words for you: Tempest, Blizzard, Spell Might and mana clash. Pure win! Storm of the century is so damn overpowered it's hilarious :P and so is mana clash. \\\\o/ I dont even need a tank. All enemies die before they reach me:p most of the time anyway. PC+Morrigan=awesomeness.

edit: Well, that's 7 actual words, but you get my drift:P

I wouldn't get spellward if I were you, as a blood mage you don't need the willpower bonus, I would go for blood gorged amulet if you want to be able to cast more spells or lifedrinker if you want more powerful spells.

You also need to make usre you have either the robes of Avernus or blood ring for the Improves Blood Magic effect, you don't need both on a single charecter as they stack so you can give one to any other blood mages you have. Lifegiver is a definite and andruils blessing are good for any charecter.

You will want the black hand gauntlets as it will increase spirit damage by 20%, just pop them on when you are going to use blood wound and then switch to whatever other gauntlets match your primal spells.

Staff of the Magister Lord is a definite aswell.

Also, make sure you buy every Tome of Arcane Techneque you can find. That should use up all the money you get in this playthrough.
