A thing about the 3rd person camera

Solution would be to offset the camera slightly to look over one of the character’s shoulders. I’d say right shoulder, but I imagine those of us who’re left-handed would prefer the left side, so maybe options would do the trick. Even have a Centre option for those who want it.
I think an offset camera also has more cinematic vibes, but that may just be me.

While a valid idea I don't see it happening. The option to zoom out and rotate the camera is there so I don't think they would have a different camera perspective when a solution is already present.

When not using tac-view, I'm just likely to have my camera all the way in. T'is how I like it. Zooming out too far tends to disconnect me with the action.

I get that, I often zoom in and tilt the camera slightly so I'm not always looking at the back of characters head

Agree, I zoom out so I'm behind but just looking over their head. I guess until we get first-person view as an option, that will be the closest we can get without being obstructed by the character's body (I noticed that point in the demo movie too).

I'm not really a first person fan, though. I gotta be able to see my avatar, but at the same time, see passed my avatar.
Yeah, I'm fussy, I know. ![]()

what your describing is fallout new Vegas' view style and I have to admit I hated it, I prefer my character being dead centre and seeing everything from roughly there direct point of view

Well, I've not played New Vegas, so I really couldn't say. But what I'm suggested is something like this:
And I'm by no means saying ditch the centre-cam, always have options, so if this is exactly the thing you didn't like, no need to force it on you.

This, for me, is the worst idea ever. The thing I have loathed more than anything else in modern gaming has been the "over the shoulder" cam. It actually annoys the ever loving hell out of me, turns what could be great games into annoying cluster flicks of annoyance, and middle of the road games into utter shite. So please for the love of Gaia, never implement it into a Bioware game.

This opinion seems to be forming a pattern of repetition. I don’t really mind, but I think it would be more meaningful if the why was mentioned. I explained why I prefer an offset camera, perhaps show me the same curtesy?

Well I don't want to seem like I'm constantly peering over the characters shoulder like an unwanted tag along child.
As appose to peering over their head?
I don't think my immersion is built that way.
This I sort of understand, but the camera would have to be long way offset before your sideview was notably impacted. Having an obstruction right in front of where I'm looking is more of an issue more of the time. And in most 3rd person games, particularly shooters (because they usually have offset cameras) blindsiding hasn't ever been an issue.Nor do I like my side view blocked by the avatar so I can't see what suddenly blindsided me.
Maybe I'm just pulling experience from a different pool of games.

I will always favour being an all powerful dainty/puppet master over breathing done the neck and biting the ears of any given toon.As appose to peering over their head? And as for being blindsided, it's happened in batman, space marine, and worst of all the over the shoulder cam games Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. FFS that's a bloody fight game it has no need for "over the shoulder" anything. It's been years and I'm still bitter over that game.

Just our different ways of gaming I guess. I'm always looking around, tracking stuff, so being surprised isn't a common thing for me. Not played Ace Combat though... and yeah, it does sound weird for flying, because your perspective is relevant to your direction.
But Space Marine, Batman... yeah, loved the camera work in those games.
Though, I also loved the camera in Resident Evil 5:

Yay someone else who likes the camera in that game, too bad that was the only good thing
. But yeah I agree, I wish it possible to have a over the shoulder type view. Mainly just for walking around the environment I would't dream of using it in combat, but still it would be nice to have.

Oh, Resi5 not that bad. Not a good Resident Evil game for sure, but I've had so much fun with the coop, and I've put more hours in the Mercenaries mode than I care to acknowledge. The core gameplay is addictive: go for the knee, Upper Cut; the back, Reverse Roundhouse Kick... *sigh* I'm shallow.
In Inquisition, I love that we can free roam the camera in tac-view, so it's not like as though there's a serious issue here. Just when I'm in the moment, targeting an enemy near me, I'd like to see him clearly, and not just get the target reticule on my Inquisitor's back.
Tac-cam is gonna make awesome screenshots. ![]()

The only problem i see with the camera is seen in one the new game play vids where the player is controlling Varric and he backflips next to a tree/bush and all you can see is the tree or bush because its blocking the camera. hopefully they have a hide foliage around the character toggle option like Age of Conan does.... ![]()

I'm pretty sure they've shown OTS view before. I think it was in the Crestwood demo.

The offset camera was always the first thing I modded OUT of Skyrim, and when I played Elder Scrolls Online, I had to play scrolled all the way out to get my character as close to the center of the screen as possible. I HATE an offset camera, it gives me vertigo.
That said, I see nothing wrong with adding options. I begged for the option of a centered camera in ESO - they still haven't gotten it, and it didn't keep my attention very long (disappointing, really.)

SpoilerYour character sits just to the side of your camera's focus point. It gives you both the great cinematic aesthetics of third person, but at the same time, your view is never blocked by your character's back/head.
And I'm by no means saying ditch the centre-cam, always have options, so if this is exactly the thing you didn't like, no need to force it on you.![]()
yeah thats skyrims/ new vegas' style, i dont like it that much, i dont think it would fit a dragon age game, but i dont think it will be moddable without editing code for the game unless they release a modding tool

It is one of the things that should be adjustable by the players. It is something you might want to switch sometimes just before you feel like it, or maybe you like it centred for your fighter, and offset it for your caster?
How about a slider, so you can choose how offset the neutral position is? It wouldn't be difficult to do, and would make everyone have it the way they want.
