Ignoring the floating rocks (better be fixed at release), this was pretty awesome. The animations on both boses were absolutely top notch, and DA:I's dragons utterly blow Skyrim's out of the water. And the cover destroying was great, they promised a changing arena for dragons and delivered.
And I did laugh at the giant stubbing his toe. The animation is a bit exagerated, but it is pretty funny. Hope we can evade that one-shot boulder attack however.
One thing he mentions if that the dragon could be killed by fire attacks with a staff out of its aggro range. it did take 2 hours, but I wonder if that is intentional. But really, my only concern is that these bosses seem to have really bloated HP totals, albeit I guess being level 12 against a level 17 boss doesn't help.

The dragon is
The dragon vunerable to fire?
It seems to be an ice elemental dragon... it resists cold and has ice breath.

Wow. That's impressive. I don't know if I ever want to tackle these dragons - I understand they're optional - but it appears they're actually making dragon fights as epic as they should be. Yeah, looking at your epic failure to do so, Skyrim. They deserve a serious try just for that.
Also, it seems the days we could take cover from a Reaper attack behind a telephone cell are over. ![]()

The Dragon fight looked pretty cool. Hard to judge if it's got too many hitpoints since they were taking it on under-levelled.
The giant fight just seemed like a minor variation on the troll fights we've always had. With DA2's standard boss fight design of moving out of the way of the slow, telegraphed attacks.

Man... can you really blame Skyrim when most people play on the Adept setting? On top of that the pc is a prophesied demigod built specifically for dragon slaying.

Really appreciating all the new gameplay but it would be nice, and I really don't mean to sound condescending, if we could see footage from someone who knows what they are doing. Pretty much all of them are just tunnelvisioning the sh*t out of the game. That's really not the way to adequately demonstrate the combat mechanics.

Skyrim dragon's weren't just easy to kill, the encoutners were boring. But maybe I have been spoiled by Dragon's Dogma... DA:I looks like it's on the right track as far as excitement goes. I can't wait to tackle these things...
Not the giants though... they look kind of OP.

Very glad I downloaded some dragon fight mods before my first playthrough in Skyrim. Having 2-3 dragons attack a town bordered on one side by a lake and by forests on the other was indeed epic.

They were still easy and boring until you hit level 50 and had to tackle Ancient Dragons (and I played on Expert, Master just made fights take too long). Plus, with all the talk about how dragons in TES are actually intelligent Aedra with their own brand of magic and language and all, they always behaved like big fire or frost breathing lizards. And they weren't that big; DA:I dragons tower over the PCs. And hell, I saw a Skyrim dragons get owned by a group of rogue mages, and another by a pair of giants. The hell does Skyrim even need a prophetised demigod for if the local wildlife can kill a dragon just fine on their own anyway?
That said, on PC you could use the Deadly Dragons mod to give yourself as real a fight as you wished. Most importantly, it actually added some spells to their arsenal. But from the looks of the the Inquisition dragons will top even that. I'm really looking foward to craching my teeth on them.

I played the game on Expert and I got pretty terrified when I realized I got ambushed by an dragon. Fighting dragons in Skyrim was anything but easy at low levels.

Really nice to see some new stuff (only spoiled severely by the commentary)....and what's with the plastic blue dragon?
I mean, the horned dragon we saw in previous videos look amazing, but this thing just looks absolutely silly!

P.S.: This is an earlier build of the game. Hence the bugs. Just worth noting while people are spamming about the floating rocks.

I love how the dragon knocks out the supporting rocks and the top rock remains... twice!
It reminded me of Douglas Adams.

This was okay. A bit worrying that it'll be too difficult, but still nice. There is another Dragon Age Inquisition video on his channel, and that, however, is troubling. The game seems to be too difficult all around. I saw no healing, and I got even more worried with the 8 healing potion limit. If you can expand that I would hope they show it. The barrier spell fades too fast to be effective, and the spell effects seem to be so pervasive, almost to the point of obscuring your view. At this point, I'm getting the game for the lore and the characters and story, because the gameplay looks seriously troubling to me.

Did a dev tweet this or something? You have a link to this? I assumed as much but a real confirmation would be great.

It certainly seems designed such that you cannot simply bludgeon your way through without a degree of micromanagement anymore, at least not on what I assume was "Normal" difficulty. I'll be playing on the easiest difficulty anyway though, as I'm more interested in the story and character interactions than setting up tactics and such.
You also need to remember that he was basically thrown into the game with a preset party - he didn't have chance to play from the beginning, where I imagine the combat is easier as you learn how to play the game, and you can also build your party to suit your playstyle. He was playing a section where it is expected that you kinda know how to fight battles by that point... even though (due to the nature of the preview event) he was actually still figuring it out.

Actually all I did was read the description of the first gameplay video that got released by one of the youtubers!
Over here

Keep in mind that this guy didn't at all use all of the tools at his disposal, and still got through most encounters with only a few wounds. He didn't really seem to know what he was doing in combat.

Wow, now this was pretty freakin cool....
And... for the first time I think we can see what could be very close to the mouse & keyboard -ish gameplay for DA:I
Not a frenetic, closed in flashfest, but a zoomed out, slower, more methodical approach. Was that because he's focusing on singular, large type enemies? Perhaps, but if you apply this to all the other gameplay footage we've had, you can see the change.
Also, great job describing what he's doing. Love the idea of a dragon, any dragon being way too much for early encounters. And Love the giant grabbing his knee!

The dragon has over 178 thousand HP? I thought the reason they got rid of healing spells was so they didn't have to jack up enemies' HP anymore. So much for that theory.

It's a cold dragon. You see it freeze people.
AWESOME stuff though, floating rocks not withstanding. I'd worried dragons would be a pushover from the E3 demo. Now? Not worried about that.
Makes sense, i don't watch any videos... trying to at least trying to keep that fresh.
