I am suprised that Bioware hasn't used the character creator from DA:O as a basis on which to build the ME2 one.

I am as well. The DA:O system looks pretty nice, and turns out some excellent characters.

LOL... Imagine a dwarf Shepard...   Posted Image

I think the CC only fails really on the eyes and the hair... The problem with long hair is the clipping probs that would make it look crap. The eyes fail because they don't do oriental eyes well. I think there is only one eye setting that looks... normal I would say.

I just hope that the CC in ME2 is going to be better now they have had more time to play with it. Bioware did say they figured out how to use digital actors properly right at the end of ME1's development and didn't have time to really integrate it in ME1. Maybe this means they have figured out how to get the CC to work better too.

My gripe with it is that you can't use Sheploo's eyes. All the male Shepard eyes are either squinty, or lopsided, and it drives me nuts. It's hard to get Shep looking just like I want, but I can always come real close, and I'll get used to it after a while. I thought something more along the lines of the DAO creator would occur, with a little more control over nostril size and cheek gauntness... It's very hard to make a proportionate Shepard who also looks attractive. It can be done. With much work.

Still, I hope for ME3 they much improve that system... looks like it's the one complaint BioWare decided to ignore when addressing concerns from the first game.

A CC tool like in those wrestling games or Saint's Row 2 would've been great for ME.

Yeah, I'm sorry OP, but you're not really looking at this reasonably. I can understand if you're upset about facial customization, but I'm pretty sure had Bioware used the kind of sliders that you can slide over however much to which direction you want (sorry if that explanation isn't good enough, think Oblivion-esque sliders) then people would still be upset because it's even tougher to make a good looking character when you can go nuts with the sliders. Also, as other people have said, Shepard is a solider and that obviously limits his hair and facial hair options, regulations y'know? Still, I don't think it's so tough to make a good looking Shepard, and I'm pretty happy with mine. I think the trick is just figuring out how to work with the tools Bioware's given you. Here's my Shepard for reference:

Man gandulf, do you know how to offer opinions and NOT be insulting at the same time? It's so counter intuitive to your goals if you ACTUALLY want Bioware to listen to you.

Definitely would like more options than that as far as hair and beards are concerned. The whole "military man" argument is unfounded as well, the femshep lengths are within the regulated limits, and that's certainly not "BUZZCUT ONLY!". Same goes for beards. Give us at least som moderate lengths please! Meanwhile, I'll be wearing full-faced helmets.

While they are both quite good looking Shepards they still fit into the style of what Bioware thinks Shepard should look like. The look I am trying to go for with my Shepard simply isnt possible with the character creation tool we currently have.

What I am trying to say in this topic is that Bioware should stop forcing us to create a Shepard within the boundries of what they think Shepard should look like and instead give us the customization options we need to create some truely unique looking Shepards.

Every CC in every game that features one is limited to a number of possibilities solely depend on what the devs imagined. Just because you were not able to satisfy your personal desire, it's not proof of a "bad" CC, it just means, your wish differs from the expectations of the devs.

Oh the tragedy...

Whatever, the game wouldn't ever come out, if the CC would be designed to be unlimited and grant every wish.

The character creation suck, that is a fact. Of course, it is not SO bad but modern? Nope. Every normal cc today has at least a freakin color bar. Even a fighting game like Soul Calibur IV has it.

Keep in mind that Shepard was a career soldier. That automatically limits the amount of hair he/she can have due to reg's about such things. It's the same in the real military.

Military haircuts can be longer than any of those in the CC, as long as they're orderly.

Three inches tops, cannot touch your ears, cannot have bangs, cannot touch your collar, only mustaches for facial hair so no sideburns.  So basically combed back.  There are hairstyles that look like that, if a bit shorter, you can pretend.

I sadly must agree here. The male sheps always come out looking like they could be related, due to squinty eyes and same hair cuts. The femsheps can look good, but their hair cuts are also way to similar and always give them a similar look. I was at least hoping for like 3 or 4 new hairstyles for both, and new eyes for the guys.

Well, you heard the man, BioWare.

No CC in ME3.

LOL, that was the first thought that popped into my mind as well. :P

Still, I find it rather odd that the CC wasn't improved at all.  I don't think we are asking for APB CC here but something with some variety and new options in it wouldn't have been asking for too much.

You guys realise the ME2 customisation is actually less than the ME1 one? They took out scars.

/sigh I had heard something to that effect and was hoping it wasn't true.  So the CC actually regressed then instead of improving.

good topic Gandalf. I too was hoping the CC would be improved, at least to the quality of DA:O's. It can't be that technically difficult can it? As a favour to all us ME fans, a patch or seperate util should be issued. And in return I promise to pre-order ME3. Promise.

A show of hands might help

I play soldiers and warriors. Have a look at my avator and you will know he isnt the best looking chap on the planet. Why make him ugly you say?

Because he's a warrior/soldier, he's not meant to win beauty contests.

It is difficult getting Shephard right without altering the pre-made one that much. It would be nice if they improve it and added a bit more of variety but keeping the realism to it.

... Um.... So? I think they look fine. So you don't get to make 1000000000 hair styles. Oh no! It sucks. Whateva.

So Gandalf-The-Fabulous I hear your intentional flame thread creating skills suck.

Um, you do know that this is (no spoilers, don't worry) sort of part of the story? Scars and all that? You've seen the pictures, I'm sure. You get scarred somehow. Deal with it =/
