I like both archery rogues and dual wielding rogues. As an archer I can hang back, avoid damage, and watch over my fragile mages while dishing out good ranged dps. As a dual wielder I'm literally a whirlwind of speed, dps, and make short work of elites and bosses.

I can't decide which I like better. Should I go archery or dual wielding in Inquisition?

I'm having same dilemma, I want to be a rogue because I like opening up everything I possibly can. Either one will be a blast. Plus being able to craft and make your own daggers and bows will be fun.

In Origins I did Mage because they were so OP in it. But in my second playthrough and then in DA2 first playthrough I did Rogue and really enjoyed it.

I prefer the archery route. You can hang back, lay traps by the mages in ADR someone wants to move in on them, then swap to dual wielding when people close on you.

I was going to go all archer, but the new gameplay videos being released make dual-wielding look like so much fun!  So conflicted...

Duel weapon is my preferred choice, I rarely go archery.

I want my elf to dw daggers, but they get a bonus for ranged attacks. I wonder if that is limited to archery and mages, or if it applies to throwing damaging bombs?

When I do go rogue I'll probably go dual dagger. We already got two specialized archers with Varric and Sera.

duel weapons (in stealth) I suppose, although I would much prefer poisons. I always think that some one is going to have to clean this mess up. I like archery because you don't have to get all yucked up in the battle, but with Sera in the party there is little reason.

I usually go dual wield, but the archery looks great in this one.

You should be fine no matter what weapons you choose for your elf... that bonus is ranged defense, not an attack bonus.

Um... as for the topic, I prefer daggers, but archery looks improved this time around...

I love being a 2H warrior. But between dual wielding and archer, I would go with archer! (at least in DAI anyway)

I prefer ranged weapons and attacks. I usually go with mage, but I'm thinking rogue. I would use an archer first, but the dual wielding looks might tempting.

My ultimate goal is to mess/weaken/cripple as meany foes as possible that I don't outright kill. Range weapons do that for me.

Archery is my go to because I like having a complete view of the field while I'm stealthing around disarming traps or picking locks.

I'm still wondering what specialization goes with it, though, since I'm not all that thrilled with the idea of having to use traps with Artificer.

Prefer Dual Wielding.

I have dabbled in a bit of archery and swordfighting in my undergraduate years, courtesy of sports clubs. Archery is a combination of technique, stamina and good eyesight. Blades is a combination of dexterity, movement, strength (if you choose large swords) and skill.

Personally, I suffer from short-sightedness these days... there is a reason most academics were specs....So its dual weapon for me....

It will depend on how the Artificer / Subterfuge trees pan out. If Assassin removes the "poof" Stage Magician feel of Dual Wielding then I'm all for short range.

Normally I prefer dual wielding. I like the idea of being a more agile, acrobatic fighter. Plus when I think of a non mage PC I think of someone who is on the front lines going toe to toe against the hordes.

I'm planning at least one of each fighting style. A dwarven female or human male/female dual wielder and a male elven archer.

In my first playthrough I'll be a mage (probably knight-enchanter, so melee combat), but my second choice is absolutely going to be rogue archer.

You can respec during the game (for a price) so I'd say go with whichever you class you've played less and do one of the following:

Play a dual wield, take Sera specced for Archery and try out the combat. If you prefer it switch

or

Play an Archer, take Cole specced for DW adn try out the combat. if you prefer it switch.

Difficult to make this choice for you OP, I'm not you. :)

Yes, that's a great point.  I always have a rogue archer in the party so that I can "play" that character, even if my main character is something else.

I'm going archer. Which is a terrible idea because I want Sera to permanently have a spot in my party and I'm incredibly reluctant to respec her into a dual wielder.

I am going full archer assassin. It's godly in DA2 dealing 6660 damage, per assassinate shot without poisons or damage buffs, so I'm not expecting anything less.

Dual Wielder here.

Sera's my copilot, errrrr... archer.
