Whoa There, Varric!

Eh. Bethany's isn't unrealistic, especially since she's a Mage and you're not. The baby of the family usually idolizes the oldest sibling.
I can't speak to what siblings do because I'm an only child. I'm just saying I found the resentment understandable given the usual fawning over the PC and no one else.

Even if you did it wouldn't make much of a difference sibling relationships vary. Some are like Beth and others shove their stupid brother down the stairs because he sold their bike the little rat nosed bastard. ![]()

Bioware already confirmed that Varric doesn't like Cassandra or Qunari's.
Personally, I'm happy his not taking everyone's crap anymore. In DA2, he was nice to everyone (Except Sebastian for some reason) and he sounded like a yes-man sometime. I'm happy his showing some spine.
*Qunari Inquisitors hang head in sadness*

Problem with Carver as great as I think he is, is that it's waaay too difficult to get his character arc going without metagaming.
No it's not. I got it right the first time with out any help. Seriously, you're going under ground to face dark spawn and you don't take the one guy who has experience fighting them as well as the ability to sense them? That's like mining in the old days with out a canary.

DA2 is never clear on when it actually segregates gameplay and lore. Gameplay wise, GWs are just NPCs as good or bad as the class they are in.

Don't even try to use that excuse. That issue is based on gameplay to story not story to story. Anything dealing with story in no way disregards what's stated in the lore but gameplay(aka, hitting things, states, spell arrangements, etc) is not effected by the lore. If you play legacy or the Nathan Howe mission you would see that clear as day. DAO was even like that. Taking Anders with you or anyone was a story related element thus lore will effect it. The fact you're told before picking a character you can't change your party after wards makes it a point.

It's not an excuse. I think that, pragmatically, taking Anders makes no sense as he's a GW and would have story content there. I just think the idea that, as a player, there'd be actual character death related consequences for not taking Anders along is very far-fetched becaus Bioware never plays out the logic of the setting like that.
The party was always immune from the taint, except for this one bit one time in DA:O, and only for Carver/Bethany. If you leave them behind, no one gets sick. It's contrived.

Varric not liking the rather aggressive woman who interrogated him?
Shocker. Really.
I'd be pissed too if someone threw a knife in my crotch.

Technically, it was just at a book situated there...
Either way, I love the both of them and I think they have a chance to be able to get along. Once Varric's annoyance at being dragged south and unable to return home dies down and he finds purpose with the Inquisition, and Cass polishes her people skills a tad and gets more comfortable with him, we might see it. I mean here, she was clearly trying to engage Varric in civil conversation about something she knows he cares about (Kirkwall), but she ended up just stuffing her foot into her mouth. Poor woman. lol
Here's hoping they get to the comraderie we can see on display in that cutscene from Crestwood sooner rather than later. But naturally and well written, of course. ![]()

I wonder if its just talk in the early game before varric gets over it. Cassandra seems apologetic towards him in regards to Kirkwall but he isn't having any of it. Certainly salty, and not many jokes ![]()

If Varric liked Cas would be worry about him.
He was basically kidnapped and the screws put to him so to speak.

Yeah, did not like how Varric handled the thing about Cassandra talking about Kirkwall rebuilding. When someone tries to be kind and offer consolation, you do not throw that kindness back in their face.

You do when it's the lady that had you beat up, stabbed your book and smacked you around.
Anyway, I don't blame him (obviously) about being sour at Cassandra. He barely knows her it seems like, at that point in the game that we were allowed to see. I'm sure as the game progresses, the two will develop some sort of a mutual respect for each other.
I am concerned about how he's going to feel about Qunari Inquisitors, though. I think Qunquizzies will have a challenge in getting his respect and trust.

Please show me where Varric was beat up by them. And before you say "Before he is dragged in", remember we don't know what he did either.
And that was her book on the Champion, not Varric's. Hence the Seeker or Inquisition symbol on it.
I don't care how well he knows her. Being a jerk when someone is trying to be kind to you is not acceptable.
Yeah, I really hope he doesn't put Vashoth in with Qun Qunari.
