Please show me where Varric was beat up by them. And before you say "Before he is dragged in", remember we don't know what he did either.

And that was her book on the Champion, not Varric's. Hence the Seeker or Inquisition symbol on it.

I don't care how well he knows her. Being a jerk when someone is trying to be kind to you is not acceptable.

Yeah, I really hope he doesn't put Vashoth in with Qun Qunari.

While she did not actually punch him, she did mistreat him during the interrogation. I mean, I'm pretty sure if I strap her on an chair, violently throw an blunt book at her face, stabbing it and nearly cutting her leg in the process and then proceed to threathen her, she would hold an grudge against me.

And thus, I find this an invalid point, because she was an huge jerk towards Varric in the first place, in the end, she brought that attitude on herself.

It's not an excuse. I think that, pragmatically, taking Anders makes no sense as he's a GW and would have story content there. I just think the idea that, as a player, there'd be actual character death related consequences for not taking Anders along is very far-fetched becaus Bioware never plays out the logic of the setting like that.

The party was always immune from the taint, except for this one bit one time in DA:O, and only for Carver/Bethany. If you leave them behind, no one gets sick. It's contrived.

1. But it does have story content there.

2.It is an excuse, because he does have reliance during the expedition story wish.

3.It's not very far fetched. Think about it, if da was real would you really not want to go into the deep roads which are filled with darkspawn without a warden?

Sorry, but it's logical and the fact of what happens if you don't bring Anders with you makes it a point. Added, character immunity in dao is a gameplay segregation. Even then you had a warden in the party all the time so you can at the very least detect darkspawn in the story. Any taint sickness is going to be story related. In any event is still way more logical to bring a warden with you if you go into the deep roads if you have the chance.

She threw a book at him and nearly castrated him when she stabbed a knife into it. And look at his as he came in, he was dragged in.

Please, that demon psychopath only goes after templers. Is one in the party or in the deep roads? If not then there's no issue.

-The Inquisition! You're not trying to write a book about us, are you?
-Don't get your hopes up. You're not that interesting a subject.

Oh, snap!

The banter seems to be excelent, as always.

His reaction was totally fair, but am I the only one who thinks she sounds adorable when she asks if he's planning to write a book about them? She sounds so intrigued! :P

eh, if Varric is an ass to Cassandra he'll get a head shorter

For every play-through people make where they are irrationally worshipful of Queen Scowlyface, I will make two where my life's mission will be to Troll the s**t out of her.

This I Vow.

I love them both and they will get along or so help me I will turn this Inquisition around!

(though I would also be a little hostile to the woman who accidentally almost rendered me impotent...)

I think she's trying to be nice.

First banter: talking about Kirkwall rebuilding in hopes of cheering him up. She gets shot down.

Second banter: She's frustrated and tries scolding him to stop playing the victim. She failed.

Third banter: Trying to tease him. Shot down again.

Cassandra takes social awkwardness to a whole new level. She means well, but she really doesn't know how to interact normally with people. I think when she said 'I could have done much worse with full justification' she didn't mean to sound threatening. From her (hilariously skewed) perspective, she was just stating a fact and pointing out how reasonable she was.

Oh I hope she tries to tell a joke. The fail would be epic!

*snip*

I love the idea of socially awkward Cass. Like, her trying to fill in the awkward silences when traveling by making them more awkward is just wonderful.

It makes me wonder if a part of her is aware of this and she compensates by being angry...

Still, the Divine has quite a pair of hands: a left hand of dubious sanity and a socially awkward right hand. Oh, this game will give me so much joy! It already has!

Pretty much the way I see it as well.  I think friendships or rivalries between companions can develop based on how the Inquisitor helps each companion develop throughout the game and if he/she intervenes in interactions between companions.

For example, I think with Varric we can probably help him move beyond the interrogation Cassandra did to him (it was actually pretty tame compared to what could have been done) and actually become friends with her.  Or you could influence things so that they remain antognistic towards each other.

Another good example I think will be Iron Bull.  We can probably cause Iron Bull and Varric to develop a friendship if Iron Bull depending on several factors.  For example, we'll probably end up helping Iron Bull through this limbo he has with the Qun.  We can probably cause him to be more uptight and for the Qun, or help him move beyond it.  If we help Iron Bull move from the Qun, then he may end up being able to develop a friendship with Varric if we help Varric move on from that.

He was manhandled and she stabbed a book she threw in his lap. She stabbed at his Tethras family jewels. That's plenty reason to be pissed.

And my Inquisitor will probably contribute to that awkwardness and make it last longer because he'll hate awkward moments and try to move the conversation past them and end up making things even more awkward.

Mmh... I'd rather have it impossible to solve some of those conflicts. There are some people who will not get along no matter what. The best we can get them to do is agree not to kill each other.

The Inquisitor him/herself is going to be pretty busy making friends with them. I don't think it will be possible to have everybody at 'adore' like in Origins. At least I hope not.

I'd like more varried relationships: best buds, vitriolic best buds, grudging respect, strong dislike, absolute hatred and just waiting for a chance to off the other.

Maybe the relationships can evolve, maybe the characters change (for better or worse).

The one thing I don't want to see is indifference. If I can't make someone like me I'll make darn sure they hate me.

If he actually got stabbed in the family jewels then I'd agree.  Otherwise, he got off light actually.  Cassandra could have easily had Varric tortured for answers instead of just being asked questions and being called out when he was bullshitting her.

I'm not expecting them to be BFFs or anything like that but I can see Varric and Cassandra being a bit like less perverted version of the Isabela/Aveline friendship where they started off as rivals and became friendly rivals later on as the game progressed.

She does point this out to him (and frankly, if someone told me that they could have had me tortured and would have felt justified in doing so... I'd freak out. That's so creepy!) I'll need to watch the scene again because I don't think he started being a smartass until she got angry... or was that the other way around?

Anyway, they're both playing the blame game and refusing to acknowledge their own part in escalating the situation. My Inquisitor is going to have to knock some sense into them.

At least she didn't torture me is a reason to work together to prevent the end of the world. It is not a reason to like the person who captured you, threatened you, almost (accidentally) castrated you, and then made you narrow in a gloomy room for a whole while.

I sort of like it. It'd be boring if he stayed exactly the same.

I don't think he will be unrecognizable, though. Gaider has stated he regrets not preserving more of teh old Anders, for instance, and Varric has been somewhat flippant and lighthearted in other scenes we've seen.

"Ah, flanked by the ladies again."

"Watch out, it's raining demons out here."

That said, the world's situation has gotten really serious, Varric has seen some freaky/bad/traumatic stuff, and you don't come out of that without changing.
