She deserved it with her moral superiority bullshit. Varric is the Man.

Let's look at it this way. Varric was kidnapped, threatened with a knife then put under interrogation for what must have been at least several hours, after which he was told he could leave. Only for the Seekers to re-capture him some time later (probably not long after) and dragged from Kirkwall, all the way to the Frostback mountains so he could retell the story to the Divine. And Cassandra's only real response is "I legally could have done worse to you". So yeah, I get his bitterness.

Varric killed hundreds of people and monsters at Hawke's side, which means hundreds of people and monsters tried to kill him in return. And yet he always had a one-liner at the ready. Lots of things and people have at least tried to do way worse to him than an interrogation and a stabbed book. One of those was his own brother.
But here he acts like Cassandra personally torched every single house in Kirkwall and murdered every orphan. For great drama, I guess.

I'd say she just personally rubs him the wrong way, what with her serious demeanor, taking him prisoner, threatening him, and dragging him across Thedas to repeat the same story to the Divine.Varric killed hundreds of people and monsters at Hawke's side, which means hundreds of people and monsters tried to kill him in return. I'd be a bit sour too.
Plus, he seems to be lashing out due to the poor state of his home city after the Mages and Templars were done with it. For all its madness, it was still his home.
He has plenty of reasons to not be the same amiable fellow Hawke first met, especially to Cassandra.

I can see why Varric would be a bit antagonistic towards Cassandra after everything that happened in Kirkwall. If he seemed agreeable and nice to just about everyone in DA2, it's probably because he liked most of the people in Hawke's group. Being interrogated by Cassandra, along with the implication that Hawke was responsible for the whole Kirkwall incident, probably didn't sit well with Varric (particularly not if Varric was friends with the player's Hawke). Also, I think it's perfectly fine for people to be snippy once in a while if they're annoyed about something.

Yeah, you might well be right, of course.
I've been interrogated too once, and while no one stabbed my favorite book or torched my hometown, it wasn't exactly an experience I would care to repeat any time soon. I knew it was nothing personal, and I was done holding my grudge by the following day, so to me this looks a bit petulant if someone's still angry weeks or months later (not sure how much time passed between Kirkwall and Inquisition). But people are different, of course.

I just hope Varric gets to throw something soild at Cas's face, she needs a little payback from him.
But think his words may handle that in the end.
My second playhtrough will be a Dalish Warrior most likely with Cass, Varric and Dorian so will be interesting to see how the cass and varric thing goes.

I heard two weeks as the time between the last scene of 2 and the start of Inquisition. Remember though that Varric spent those weeks as Cassandra's prisoner, grimly looking at a smoking hometown behind him and the prospect of reliving the interrogation ahead of him.Yeah, you might well be right, of course.

I think she's trying to be nice.
First banter: talking about Kirkwall rebuilding in hopes of cheering him up. She gets shot down.
Second banter: She's frustrated and tries scolding him to stop playing the victim. She failed.
Third banter: Trying to tease him. Shot down again.
Cassandra takes social awkwardness to a whole new level. She means well, but she really doesn't know how to interact normally with people. I think when she said 'I could have done much worse with full justification' she didn't mean to sound threatening. From her (hilariously skewed) perspective, she was just stating a fact and pointing out how reasonable she was.
Oh I hope she tries to tell a joke. The fail would be epic!
Cassandra has been trained to be a weapon and a utility throughout most of her life. Weapons are not known for having silvery tongues and great conversational skills.
Cassandra telling a joke ? I think Cassandra talking to Orlesian nobility would cause a bigger epic fail than joking.
I personally expect my Inquisitor and Cassandra to not get along well until she apologizes for shoving a sword to his neck and imprisoning him.

Mostly it's the Fetishism.
The the b*thcier she gets, the more her fans roll around on the ground cooing "Tsundere! Tsundere!", and the more I want to run through the game with her wearing squeaky clown shoes the whole time.

Is it me or the guy playing in that video is terrible?
He keeps running around trying to just stealth in combat instead of backstabbing people and dpsing.

It seems that timetable has changed. The 'interrogation' was in 9:40. The book Last Flight takes place from 9:41 to 9:42 and makes no mention of the Breach. So Inquisition must start in at least 9:42, so two years afterwords.
That or Last Flight made an oopsie.

She does point this out to him (and frankly, if someone told me that they could have had me tortured and would have felt justified in doing so... I'd freak out. That's so creepy!) I'll need to watch the scene again because I don't think he started being a smartass until she got angry... or was that the other way around?
Anyway, they're both playing the blame game and refusing to acknowledge their own part in escalating the situation. My Inquisitor is going to have to knock some sense into them.
Varric was a smartass first. That's what made Cassandra mad at him. Before that she was actually very civil, or at least keeping her anger under control.

Yeah ...but Cassandra is a Seeker , part of the Seeker job is to root out renegade templars and mages .
Meaning they should have been in Kirkwall before things went BOOM.
Now Cass come in town a couple of years after the event and ask what the hell happened because "Oh noes now the Chantry is in danger".
You bet Varric is sarcastic and laughing at her face.Varric had way more reasons to be mad at her than the other way around.

Oh, I don't disagree with that. However remember that the head Seeker was Lambert, and it seems he wanted war as much as Anders did. He just couldn't do anything about it due to his position, so he left Kirkwall alone so it would set itself off.
I just can't believe Varric was that stupid. "Sure, I'm locked in a room unarmed surrounded by well-trained troops who are very strained with world events. Let's be a smartass."

You would be surprised of how much that happens. When you are in closed doors with an bunch of shady and mysterious people interrogating you, you have no idea if the next hour will be your last or not. Might as well give them an mouthful.

So the two camps are "Varric is a whiny ****** and don't you dare talk back to Cassandra" and "Cassandra is Hitler v2.0 and need to die in a ****** fire"? Interesting.
Edit: I guessed that the second one would get asterisk'ed, but the first? Not so much.
