I want to use shale just because wynne, morr, and shale would have AMAZING banter.. Morrigan being a witty shrew, shale being a sarcastic jerk, and wynne being wynne. Plus, asunder makes me want to have wynne+shale

but, I love allistair and i don't want to miss out on him :P

Advise?

What I advise would to a large degree depend on your Warden's class and abilities.

im amage, but i'm just asking banter and character wise, not combat. DA:O isn't that difficult.

Well, Alistair treating Wynne like his mom is kind of funny I guess... kind of weird too, though...

Switch them around, use a different party for different events..

If I play a mage for instance, I use a balance of warrior/rogue/mage.. I tend to not use Wynne or Morrigan as much as when I play a rogue or warrior.

I ran a 3 mage party + Alistair, and Wynne+Morrigan is actually not as much fun, banter-wise, as you'd imagine.  :crying:

Max banter payoff duos, IMO, are Morrigan+Sten, Sten+Shale, Wynne+Oghren, and Oghren+Alistair. IIRC, some of the banter between Morrigan and Alistair is golden, but I usually exhaust that by the time I'm leaving Lothering (*shakes fist at that bridge trigger and the other one over near the well*) so my parties that include them are pretty quiet for most of the game. /useless reply

I adore Shale's dialogue with anyone (particularly Leliana, actually). She has some good stuff with both Morrigan and Wynne.

As far as Alistair goes, during the treaties he's not actually that plot-relevant outside Redcliffe. He has the odd line about Templars in the Circle and at Haven, but nothing major, and he has virtually nothing at all to say in Orzammar, the Brecilian Forest. Plus, Shale makes an awesome tank, so basically, Alistair is easily the most disposable in this equation.

But if you insist on him, then I suppose drop Wynne. Just because the Shale-Morrigan dialogue is better than the one either has with Wynne, imho.

There are certain spots on which you can change your party (e.g. Orzamar, Dalish camp) and cross "trigger lines". Thus, I've listened to most conversations between different companions.

I looked through the area files once for banter trigger points and this is what I found (no DLCs because toolset nonsense and 'tis possible I may have missed some vanilla ones):
