Oh man, I want to see the world map! But now I can't find anything....

It might be reposted later without the spoiler.

Just going to mention that these videos are all sponsored by EA.

They say this up front, so it's not shady practice, but I get the impression some people miss it.

I assumed as much. It doesn't really matter to me, I just like seeing the gameplay in action.

I really don't get why each and every last one of them are so adamant about demonstrating the combat system at its worst. I get it that they wanted to make the most out of the time they had with the game, but is this really the right way to do it? Tunnelvisioning, almost no (smart) character switching, horrible positioning, refusing to use tactical view in any way.

Just yet another banquet for the Youtube goon squad - it's not like most people make an effort to actually educate themselves and instead judge a book by its cover.

Don't forget not using regular attacks when their abilities are on cool down.

Bioware should have given the demos to experienced players, not professional scrub lords who have Call of Duty on their channels.

Eh, I don't know. Imagine someone who doesn't usually play RPGs watching an expert utilize tactical cam and positioning. Or running around mashing a button at every nook and cranny of an open world. It's probably not going to reach them in the same way their favorite YouTube personality approaching the game in 3rd person as a novice will. I know I certainly laughed at Solas hiding behind rocks to try and avoid the dragon, because if I were just getting into Dragon Age that's exactly what I would do.

There is value in having videos of novices playing and other novices watching, I think.

Been hoping for a nice thread like this and am not at all surprised to see who made it. Where you find the time, I don't know, but I appreciate it!  :)

Not just that, but many people probably wouldn't see those videos in the first place had they been on other channels geared towards experienced RPG fans. All that would do is expose the game to the same people who already know and care about it. Most other people would likely never know those videos even exist, simply being on youtube doesn't mean you have universal exposure, there are still tons and tons of sub-communities that never interact or overlap with one another. So by getting people they do already watch and subscribe to to play the game and post videos and impressions exposes a new demographic to the game who otherwise would probably not know about it or give it a chance.

That said it probably would have been a good idea to spent 30 minutes or an hour demoing the game to them before hand showing them the nuances of combat, but I guess they want them to capture a raw and authentic look at the game.

Dat waterfall though.

Hmmmm.

Y'know, another interesting this was that the "Man in Charge" was a mage in one video, but a rogue in this one.

Maybe it's randomized for some characters.

I like how they all seem to find different things even though they're all exploring the same region..

From the looks of these videos, I'm going to have a hard time with the pooled health potion mechanic.  And no regenerating health.

But, the people playing in the majority of the videos didn't employ the pause/tactical view, which I incessantly do in DA:O and DA2.  Maybe I'll be okay.

I keep telling myself that too

If worst comes to worst, I'll just have to play on the easiest difficulty.

Spoiler wasn't that surprising....It affects gameworld stuff, but it isn't anything that shocking.

I like how there definitely appears to be different ways to reach a point. I was worried that you were still gonna be kind of herded along trails by dense vegetation or such, but that doesn't seem to be the case. I have seen like 3 different ways players have reached the Villa already.

The rogue video shows some good combat techniques.  I am already finding myself thinking tactically in the battles I am watching, the game is really set up to promote crowd control and funneling enemies.

Looked like a puzzle minigame, and I think the reward was an Inquisition perk (or Inquisition influence).

This sort of thing has come up a lot and i just want to say that DAI is not as anticipated among rpg fans as some people here might think. Yeah, people on this forum are certainly excited for the game, that's why they are here in the first place, but most rpg fans i know either don't care about the game or are actively very sceptical about it, because DA 2 was pretty ****.

And there has been pretty much nothing to convince people like that otherwise. In all released material, they just show the controller gameplay, the most tactical cam gets used is for a single battle, after which the players allways switches back to fighting realtime.

Every single video has been aimed towards the action crowd and i personally think that EA might be better off reclaiming old fans, rather than try and get people interested in a genre they have never been interested in.

Almost all of the gameplay vids were done by people who don't care about RPGs. I looked at their playlists, mostly shooters and sport games. Of course they don't know how to play it. It seems that from one hand BioWare makes Inquisition more difficult with health and 8 abilities limitations (and you can't just run and gun unless easy, while these players have no idea or don't care about tactical camera, pause, tactics and party combos and keep dying). From the other hand EA probably wants new players who will be frustrated with difficult gameplay. So why didn't they call somebody who knows how to play?

If I was a casual player who looks for some easy game to spend my money on, I won't buy it after watching how people get wiped again and again. And if I was somebody who likes using strategy and tactics and interesting combat, I won't be interested in button smashing. Who these vids are for?
