I just started playing this yesterday on the PC. Its a bit of a button smasher, and the animation sometimes gets in the way of the characters reacting the player controls, but the graphics are quite nice for 2 years ago, the voice acting is pretty good, and its got some basic Mass Effect (Dungeon Siege 3) type conversations for character and plot development. So far I'm enjoying it.

Most intriguing character - Beleram the talking eagle! You get to call him in for air strikes. The voice actor's dignified butler/soldier delivery really sells the character, but I suppose if giant eagles could talk:

Nolan North voices Eradan (the Ranger) and voices a character in Shadow of Mordor as well. Snowblind merged with Monolith after its development too so some of its developers probably worked on the new LOTR game.

War in the North was a fine game but my problem was that it was a bit too short and had potential to be more. It flirted with side quests and even providing dialogue choices but the choices weren't varied enough to forge a proper personality for the character you were playing. Of course the emphasis of the game is as a loot RPG, I think it would have done better being more like Dragon Age: Origins.

Still waiting for that LOTR RPG. The "RPG's" we do get for LOTR are all action ones where you play a set character. One thing Monolith should have took from War in the North was the looting in terms of armor. I have no quarrels with using the same upgradable weapons but it would have been nice to customize the appearance of armor. War in the North also has a more LOTR feel than Shadow of Mordor and the music is more impressive too.

I loved that game, especially the couch co-op/online co-op. Finding good RPGs is hard enough, but finding good RPGs with online and offline co-op is even harder.

I can never remember his name, so I call him George.

'twas a good game.

The use of Eagles was 'eh' lore-wise.

But it's still kind of solid.

Not excellent by any means.

And anybody who's a Tolkienite will roll in their social graves.

But it's cool and Beleram is actually a decent character.

Funny how eerily similar Gimli looks to Hagrid in a close up. Darker hair and you couldn't tell the difference.

True to the spirit of Tolkien, the eagles show up to save the day... when they feel like it.

It's an okay game. Not as good as some other licensed games like BFME or Shadows of Mordor but still pretty fun, even with some buds.

I'm still waiting for a good LOTR RPG. The closest thing we have to that is a mod for Mount and Blade.

I hope there is a second one. I really liked the Dwarf character.

BFME 2 was my favourite LOTR game and a great RTS game in its own right. I spent hundreds of hours playing that game. Shame E.A never developed a third game for it.

Same here. I was really sad to see that the console version lost all MP capabilities when EA shut down the servers.

I was positively surprised by this game. It's good even though it's bad.
