Not entirely surprising, it was immediately apparent in DA:O that he was a snarky coward. Those types are drawn to artificial fonts of power like moths to a flame.

Cullen: Of course Serah.
Inquisitor: Do you know of a couple of Templars named Carroll and Samson?
Cullen: I do, why do you ask?
Inquisitor: Apparently they're high ranking members of the Red Templars.
Cullen: ...... HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA!!!

From one of the latest videos.
Carroll who guards the ferry to the Circle tower in Origins is nowadays a Knight-Captian? What?
The biggest surprise is that he and Samson are Red Templars.
The Samson note sounds that he is one of the Leader of the Red Templers.
By the way could Samson die in DA 2?
seriously good find ![]()

Inquisitor: Cullen I was wondering if I could ask you something?
Cullen: Of course Serah.

Cullen: ...... HAHAHA HAHAHA HAHAHA!!!
Cullen has a point. ![]()
But Carroll has the same rank as Cullen. (Or was Cullen promoted to the Knight Commander of Kirkwall?)
So Carroll is the Anti Cullen. An evil Moron and a Red Templer. ![]()

I really want to know who was the genius who thought Carroll was fit enough to become a Knight - Captain? Even if he is apart of the Red Templars wouldn't you want someone with a bit more sense, unless his personality was completely overhauled since DAO. It couldn't have been Gregor willing at least.
The Red Lyrium did of course.
Since Carroll is especially susceptible to its will, he gets to be the best Red Templar ever.

Maybe Greagoir is dead (In one Epilogue he die in his bed) and the new Knight Commander Hadley? isn´t the smartest.

Interesting. According to the DA Wiki "Samson will aid Hawke in the fight against Meredith if conditions are right."
I almost forgot that was possible in DA 2.

I don't know I got the feeling from Carol in DA O that he was not an idiot just inexperienced. A young member of the Templar Order just out of training who was put in a boring and non essential guard duty while his Circle was in trouble. After all, given the circumstances, if anyone really came up to us and claimed to be the fabled Grey Wardens, who had not been in Ferelden in Centuries, would you believe them?
No, the most curious aspect of this info to me is the RTs still seem to have a will of their own. Marketing in the past, I believe, has called them a 'creature faction' who has a motivation, a lot like the Darkspawn...but no will of their own. This might add a lot more depth to their charcter and story and makes them more intriguing to me.
As far as Samson...I liked Samson. ![]()

All this just makes me wonder - do we know who leads the Templars that join us yet?
*fingers crossed* I want it to be Knight-Commander Greagor.

I'm talking about what's in tje art book.
Fair enough, although that too isn't really surprising since he's mentioned by name in the first post and was able to put up the Dales. He's obviously important enough.

Carroll wasn't very bright but he might not have a been a moron, he might just have a been a bit cowardly (tbf the threats he relents to are, iirc, getting his arms ripped off by a qunari and getting his head squished by a golem) and he trolled because his job is boring or something.
A templar who literally a brain dead moron is that old one in DA2 who you can report "demony things" to

In the new artbook there is also a depiction of Samson in Red Templar armour.. let's just say he still looks a bit sleazy.. but now with a touch of insanity and evil. He gives me goosebumps..
Whats this new art book you mention?

Has anybody noticed the connection the Red Templars appeared to have to Tevinter? Commander Duhaime of the Freemen (a faction that appears to be working closely with the Reds) wears Tevinter colors. The interior of the chateau had Templar banners hanging right beside stained glass windows depicting Blood Magic sacrifices and slaves. "Maliphant" is a mage, at first I thought he might be a magister but according to his journal he is actually an Orlesian.
What is their angle here? Are they being manipulated, I wonder?

Anyhow we are never see him actual die in DA 2.

Maybe the leaders are just those who haven't turned mindless yet. The red lyrium is having trouble driving Carroll insane because it's still searching for his mind or something
