Everyone.

I have never just used 1 go to party, in any Bioware game. I try to mix and match them to see how all of them play. Now that mages can't heal, I guess a mage in the party at all times isn't a must have like the other games. So will see how a team of all tanks, or rogues or all mages will fair. So will be doing a lot of experimenting on my first playthrough. Second playthrough will probably have a core team, made up of characters I like. The ones that I don't, will probably still be used, but not nearly as much as the first playthrough.

My plan is to do things a little differently this time as far as my main party build on my first playthrough. I say "main" because I like to mix and match my party occasionally based on the situation.

My first DA:O character was a human warrior and my main party was all human.

My first DA 2 character was a human(obviously) mage and my main party was again all human except for Varric.

So this time I've decided that my first playthrough will be a rogue elf. Also, my main party isn't going to include any humans.

Therefore, my main party will look like this:

Sera

Solas

Iron Bull

I had decided that Solas was going to be my mage after all of the mage characters had been revealed. Then I chose Sera because I wanted an archer and Varric was in my main party in the last game.

It took a while to decide between Blackwall and Ironbull but then I realized it could be interesting to have no humans this time around.

But here's the beauty of multiple playthroughs. I can have multiple main parties!

For my next three characters its looking like:

Cole, one of the mages, and whoever(probably Iron Bull) with my 2h warrior

Varric, Cassandra, and Dorian with my mage

Blackwall, Sera, Vivienne with my S&S warrior

My mage and S&S Warrior characters will actually be the DA:I version of my Warden(S&S) and my Hawke(Mage). I also wanted their party to be similar.

DA:O S&S Warrior: Alistair, Leliana, and Morrigan to DA:I Blackwall, Sera, Vivienne

DA2 Mage: Anders, Varric, and Aveline to DA:I Dorian, Varric, and Cassandra

So not only will I occasionally mix and match my party based on the situation in order to get a feel for all the characters, I'll also have different combinations for later playthroughs for an even more varied experience. Then knowing these new characters will inspire me to do even more playthroughs!

I'm planning on sticking to a main party as much as possible, then the next play through I'll use a different main party as much as possible, followed by the last group on my third play through. Anyway, to start with, I'm planing on:

Human male archer rogue, Dorian, Vivienne, and Cassandra.

I'll likely switch characters out a fair bit, but my 'core' groups for each of my two currently-planned playthroughs will be:

Karaas Adaar, Male Qunari Rogue (Specialisation Undecided), along with Cassandra, Dorian, and one other party member TBD.

Valya Lavellan, Female Elf Mage (Knight Enchanter), along with Solas, Cole, and (probably) Iron Bull.

Human Male 2-handed Champion(or Templar) (melee DPS/ off tank)

Cassandra (S/S tank)

Varric (Utility and Ranged DPS)

Solas/Dorian/Vivienne (Ranged DPS)

I pretty much know that I want to run with Cass and Varric the whole game, but I might switch up my last party spot and run with all the mages to see who I like better. Right now I'm leaning towards Solas though.

I'll do my best to balance them all, but I think my "main" party will be a result of who are best in combat, and who I like the most.

Maybe... An archer assassin quizzy, with Solas, Blackwall, and Cole?

Looking at gameplay videos and seeing the mages ability to put up firewalls to isolate parts of the battlefield, three mages and a tank could be an interesting possibility.

This time around I want to use everyone. Unless I find a companion annoying I'm sticking to this.

I will test out all companions first and then decide...

My standard build party wise has always been 2 Warrior (One Tank/CC with the other DPS/Condition), One Archer (DPS/Condition) and One mage (Debuff/CC).

I probably wont deviate much from this, so everyone will have a run out depending which 4 of my Inquisitors I am playing. Unless the Rift Mage is a purely nuker class, which means in most cases Solas gets left behind. Dunno why, never like offensive build mages, much prefer hexes and crowd control.

Though admittedly the most fun I ever had was when I ran 2 Rogues + 2 Warrior. My dual wielding Assassin was a DPS god.
