Simple and curious question :P  Lets cast back a second, you've played ME1 and 2 and you then go ahead and play ME3 and finish it also. You choose your ending and the cutscenes play and game is done. Skip ahead to right now, How have the games affected you in the long run? Do you have dreams about the games? Changed your lifestyle and started dressing up as a Vorcha maybe? Planning on starting the cult of Shepard?  Perhaps something alot simpler?

Still feel the same way about the game when you'd finished it or has it changed over time?

I'll get the ball rolling, i have dreams about the games that usually include characters i like the most. So i usually see Garrus, Tali, Thane, Javik, Miranda and a few others too. A most recent dream was me (not my Shepard) talking with Tali and Garrus about events in the game. The dream ended with Garrus saying "You cant have it all..." and i wokeup almost crying...

I think it'll be interesting to see how people have taken the games into their lives and what affect it has had ^_^

Not having dreams about it or such but there was something else. I ended up in a foreign country to pass an exam that could've changed my entire life if failed. Stress level was immense, I couldn't stop beating myself for not preparing better. On the day of the exam I remembered final epic speech of ME3. I kept repeating it in my mind with multiple variations and... it helped. I went to the exam calm and ready, and even used one of Wrex's lines in my answer (the one about fights finding you when you get older) - it was a philosophy exam :)

Perhaps some other motivational quote would've had the same effect, but I felt that this quote applied to me personally, after "saying" it myself in video game.

These games were the most emotional experience I had in gaming (and I'm a gamer for quite a long time) and I know that they helped shape my character and make me more mature in some ways.

I don't think it is healthy for anyone to be waking up on the verge of tears over a video game and animated/fictional characters 2 years later. Did you just finish the game for the 1st time? If so, I can understand you may be sad the story is over, the character's stories over. No insult intended (just concern), but if it's been 2 years and you are waking nearly crying.  .. I would see a psychologist ASAP.

I want a new game with new places to explore, mysteries to solve, battles to win or lose, and aliens that are alien (nothing like a Human) whose culture will intrigue, perplex, infuriate me. I'm watching all my Star Trek episodes and they are more relevant to me now than ME ever was. I want Bioware to make a Star Trek rpg in the future. Maybe they can make the ST aliens more alien in appearance.

Ehh i considered it weird at first i admit Yakut especially considering the games age. I've finished it a few times at varying dates but i dont think i'm...you know... loosing it  The deep and immense connection with the games has always remained with me as i play them and i see that as perfectly normal. I am sad that Shepards story may very well be over, i'll wait and see what BioWare do with that. I know they've said they wont be focusing on Shepard as the main protagonist anymore but still...

No, I wouldn't say you are losing it  ...maybe depression since most games out right now have not impressed me or have not been very immersing for me. I have seen some people with attachments to certain characters, however, who sounded suicidal after the end of ME3  :o I couldn't understand it. Maybe i'm insensitive  :P

Anyway, I make it a point to not get emotionally involved in Bioware games as some writers have a tendency to send messages that I find personally offensive especially through romances, which is why i'll opt to avoid ME romances in the future. I'll have fun with the game but it won't impact my life. I'll let real people- family, friends, and colleagues- do that.

Yeah I had several dreams about Mass Effect. I remember dreaming being with Garrus & Wrex fighting a horde of synthetics (some of them were Geth, some of them were not) in uncharted world similar to Asteroid X57. It was so cool.

has Mass Effect affected me IRL?, yeah it has in two things:

1. I know this might be silly but Mass Effect helped me recover from a life threatening health issue.

2. I changed the way I see certain things in life in a better way.

I'll admit, ME got into my dreams.

Also, after I played ME1 and 2, just before 3 launched......I probably bored my husband (and everyone else I knew) to tears with talking about the game, characters, reapers, where I hoped game 3 would go....It's probably all I talked about until I finished ME3.

What did ME do for me IRL?

Got me writing. After the original ending of ME3 I was thinking, "Even I could write something that hole-ridden." So I tried my hand at it.

Other than writing two DA fanfics, I don't do creative writing. I'm a techincal/science writer.

But I've been writing some short stories, taken 3rd place in two fiction competitions so far, and had a judge tell me my style was like Neil Gaiman (didn't know who that was so had to look him up....I'm taking it as praise)

Have 157 pages of world building done for an 'epic' fantasy story.

And five chapters, character outlines, and a story diagram for a 'chick-lit' fantasy story. This one I'm focusing on getting done before DAI launches so it can start going into review while my attention is otherwsie diverted.

(Wish I could do sci-fi, but I think I would get too hung up on 'would this actually work/make sense?')

Really Bioware, I didn't need another creative endeavor to dabble in. :D

I do understand your point that games can cause some problems based on the attachments people have, these games are quite deep for me and it has changed how i perceive certain things. I personally dont think i'm depressed but i wont deny almost reaching that point since the games still continue to have that intense and emotional connections on each playthrough.

I've always believed dreams to have significance to something in life as well no matter what the content of those dreams are, so the most recent dream, for me, has actually helped illuminate a few things.

Thats awesome the game got you into writing, i wouldnt be surprised if many people actually wrote their own ending too if they disliked what they got and thats good too as i think it got people thinking about the games more and the direction it could take in the next title too.

 I do the same with my friends, talk their ears off about game mechanics of the ME series and what i think BioWare are going to do for the next title. Ultimately its the waiting game on that though :P

Wow, quite a diverse set of things going on with these games and others! Awesome stuff :D

Yesterday i read that Bioware wants ppl to record a video of them telling what the ME universe did to change their lives, for N7 day.

I havent really been thinking of doing it. but while i was driving home from work. All of sudden i got this Piano tune in my head, couldnt place it at first, but then i realized it had to be from somewhere ive seen more then once.

Thats when i realized, ME3, where Grunt takes one for the team, you think he will die, but dont.

The tune, and the part im talking about starts at 2:55 Cris Velasco, Sascha Dikiciyan and EA Games Soundtrack – Aralakh Company

Its crazy, how much the series actually have changed me, hehe.

Just a little thing i thought of sharing :)

Thanks for sharing! I think it'd be a wonderful idea if people did that for N7 day, and if BioWare are asking for it all the more reason to do it i think!

I know for some people the games didnt affect them at all, it was purely a fun experience and thats fine too of course! There's also those who didnt enjoy it at all, i know some people who stopped partway through ME1 or 2 for their own reasons. I just think its absolutely gobsmacking how the games have changed some peoples lives. The Mass Effect series, so far is the only series of games that i've seen where people truly let it in, they embrace the game and the connection forever remains.

My own viewpoint too is maybe the games show us something about ourselves in some way or another, after all it is you, the player who are making the choices and getting to see the consequences of your actions :D

I certainly never had an obsession before discovering Mass Effect

edit: The only reason why I haven't played it since August is that I only have space for an Xbox One and a Wii U at my dorm so I couldn't bring either of my copies of the trilogy [360 or PS3]. I wish Bioware would release a remastered set for the Xbox One and PS4 so I can scratch my Mass Effect itch I have right now.

It's affected me to the point where my staunch refusal to buy DLC has led me to purchase all the DLC offered for ME.

EDIT: Da crap? It cut off all of my post?? It was long too T-T

"What would Shepard do?" has replaced "What would Jesus do?" it just seems more practical at this point and forgiving everyone all the time get a little dull anyway. I have had dreams about the game but alternative scenarios that don't exist within the game.

Other than that I get the same feeling from playing through the trilogy as seeing old friends from high school at a BBQ or gathering, I guess I just enjoy saying goodbye.

Most games don't affect me much.

Some affect me in a way that I'll be in bed or the shower or the bus and recite facts about it like the order of locations, the characters and their attributes, the levels and the order they go in. I don't know when I started doing this, but it kept my mind going. I'd think of every location in Final Fantasy 9 and the order you visit them in and how they matter to the lore and plot.

Mass Effect is the series I've been most obsessed with though. What started as interest with ME1, and fanaticism with ME2, became obsession with ME3. Only this year has that started to wane.

And yeah, sometimes to help me sleep, I'll be listing off every level of every game and details about them. Or I'll be organizing each squadmate in the series based on class/role/symbolism. Etc.

Well i went ahead and made a little video of what i feel N7 day and the games mean to me. Listening back to it now i didnt exactly stay on topic 100% about the day itself but i am happy with it, and so want to share it here, enjoy!

I apologize if you cant hear my voice that well over the awesomeness that is the galaxy map music, i listened back to it through headphones and could hear bit better than through TV speakers.

The Mass Effect trilogy, especially Mass Effect 2, is the greatest experience I've ever had with videogames.

Mass Effect 2 truly had an impact of my life in the way that I interact with 'entertainment', ie videogame, films, books, tv series, etc... I really began to appreciate them more. For example soundtracks, before ME2 I never really cared for them. But it changed that, in special the Suicide Mission changed that. I remember that part right before the human reaper that a bunch of collectors come in plataforms and The Suicide Mission track is playing on the background like it happened just now. And then escaping with the Normandy with The End Run (?) playing and seeing the Collector Base blowing up in the background... it just turned up something in my head. And now half the musics I listen are soundtracks.

And that's just one example.

I truly love Mass Effect. And I hope Bioware deliver with the next game.

Since I started to try ME3, at first I did not like to talk too much, more than anything having to read the subtitles in Spanish, then at the end of the whole story I realized that the argument has more weight in almost all genres of video games.

End up being a fan of this trilogy, so I'm now developing the new Hispanic community, which soon renew.

It has made me extremely aware/nitpicky of literary aspects of storytelling. I no longer just 'like' something based on my gut feeling. I can't like stuff if I notice the cogwheels that run behind what is seen are broken. I totally fell for ME2's "rule of cool" back then, (admittedly I was quite young too :-P) but ME3 was so full of moments that felt wrong or weird to me, and the more i've reflected upon it the more I've realised how flawed the trilogy was in general.

I play more MP now and occasionally consider buying DLC.
