I do like some "underappreciated heroic characters", though. Like Willem Trialmont, the Admirable Topsider.
Uh... No. Anders is more like the Joker except he has the benefit of blaming a spirit/demon.
If you like and support Anders, he's Thedas's John Brown. If you think he went too far, he's Thedas's Gavrilo Princip.

Sarcastic femHawke. And Merril minus the whole clearly evil demons are just misunderstood thing that never made any sense at all within the confines of the game. Varric was also pretty fantastic. HATED Anders, getting to kill him at the end was so satisfying.
For DA:O, I liked every companion except Oghren, the dog and sometimes Morrigan or Zevran or Wynne when they were being particularly stupid. Sten, Alistair, Shale, Leiliana were all great.
DA:A, Sigrun was the clear winner for me. I didn't really care for any of the other characters. Well the female Gray Warden candidate from the beginning of DA:A was pretty agreeable, too bad she died instead of Oghren, I would have prefered if she had lived and Oghren and/or Anders had died.
I can't really consider the Hero of Ferelden to be a real character because she had no voice. She did have a pretty suggestive shrug though.
Not going to judge the noncompanion characters.

Humorous Hawke, hands down. More of those options in the dialogue tree would be magic.
On the third playthrough of DAO, Wynne won my heart.
Varric, Sten, Duncan.
Most of the Awakening characters including the Architect where choice.
Interesting I like the antagonists more then many of the companions from the first two. Corypheus, Loghain, the Messenger.

Yeah you kinda need to have a moral code that forbids killing before you can rise to the level of being just as good as Batman.

Duncan and Sandal, without those two Thedas would be ruled by darkspawn. ie- No Warden and No Enchantment!

Humorous and Aggressive Femhawke. The dialogue is just glorious. And Isabela thought that Aggressive Hawke was the most entertaining thing in Thedas (which worked out quite nicely for me)
SO I guess my favorites are:
- Femhawke
- Isabela
- Morrigan
- Aveline
