This has nothing to do with elves, but its implications are astounding, and I want to discuss it here without the rabid fanboys of the Chantry, which includes many of the ADB, from derailing it.

Here's the lore retcon, and it goes back to before the original retcon in Origins.

Lyrium not needed for Templar Talents

Specifically, here in Cassandra's own class description.

The impression I get from this is that the Chantry really does try to get Templars addicted to lyrium, as a form of control. Doesn't surprise me.

this topic has been beaten to death by abunch of different threads, i suggest you find one, instead of making a new one where we'll have the same repeat arguements and links to what the devs have said on the subject.

Really? It's been beaten to death?

Sure, it's been beaten to death that templars NEED lyrium as part of the retcon. I only found out an hour ago that Seekers DO NOT have the addiction, but they have full access to templar talents without it.

This has NOT been beaten to death. That you can use templar abilities without the lyrium addiction. It's officially part of the lore in Inquistion. Seekers can use templar abilities and are not addicted to lyrium.

This aspect has not been beaten to death, and I've only seen it being discussed on one thread only.

Yeah so now it's a re-retcon, I guess.

I don't think that's a retcon. Alistair mentions in the first game that the Chantry SAYS Templars need lyrium to perform their feats, but he suspects that's not really the case; that the Chantry might just be saying that to get Templars addicted to lyrium to keep them under control. (Not to mention that the Warden can learn the Templar specialization from Alistair and you don't need regular lyrium consumption for that.)

While the writers have been ambiguous about it for the last few games, it doesn't exactly go against the lore to reveal they really don't need it after all.

It was retconned originally in the comics and DA2 with Gaider saying lyrium is needed to even access templar talents, and the comic saying Alistair started taking lyrium again.

Okay, never mind. The writers keep flip-flopping between "yes" and "no."
