New Info - 27 Oktober 2014

https://twitter.com/...109619379527681

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw

@Tispeculiar they grow some automatically, some are added by talents, more come from gear.

Original post:

If you check out the new videos where someone level up there seams to be no attribute points to spend, only one skill point.

You do however get a few attribute points when picking a passive skill.

So my question is: will there be no attribute points on level up in Dragon age I?

Old updates:

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw 3m3 minutes ago

@Gladion20 No, assigning stats is not part of level up. They grow as you level, buy talents, and, notably, equip gear.

Mike Laidlaw @Mike_Laidlaw 2m2 minutes ago

@Gladion20 Notable because you can find, craft and upgrade a wider variety of gear with stats more directly under your control.

Update 2: Feel free to discuss and share your opinions but please, remember to keep it civil! <3

When I started this topic I wasn’t even sure ppl would reply, "I actually thought that if ppl care someone would probably already asked this question"

As it turns out ppl really care and I'm really happy it got this attention, both from ppl that like this and dislike this change. It shows that this wasn’t just a important topic for me personally but for BSN as a whole and hopefully it means that Bio is going to look it over for future installments of the series. It is what it is for this game but keep sharing your opinions, keep the discussion going and remember to stay classy and keep it civil! =)

Update 6:
Thanks to analysis from posters in this thread we now know that we only get attribute points from equipment and passive skills which we can chose to pick on level up. - 25 oktober 2014

Edit: According to Mike Laidaw there is indeed automatic attribute disputation upon level up. - 27 Oktober 2014

It looks like it is has just been tied into talents now.  Without multi-classing or a more open class system, I don't think it really matters though.

That may be locked off for this demo.

It appears that we will have to rely on passives and enchanted armor for attribute increases this time around.  Maybe attributes were too complicated or something so they figured they'd make the choice easy for us.  "Oh, you want to be a mage?  Don't strain yourself wondering what attributes to choose... we have passives with Magic and WIllpower bonuses all set up and ready to go!  ^_^ "

Personally I would hate if they removed attribute points, it wouldn’t stop me from buying the game or anything, but I feel that it would really hamper the freedom to customize your characters. Maybe I want a bow rouge with only dex and a little cunning and no vit or stamina, maybe I want a mage with a lot of vitality, maybe I want a shield and sword warrior with massive strength.

It is a possibility that it was locked in the demo that ppl where playing or that you only get attribute points every second or third level or something like that.

Just knowing Bio, they might have removed or “remade” it. So that’s why I'm asking, hopping to get an answer or at least someone that heard something about it that I personally missed.

WHAT THE HELL....

Why can't we assign our attributes ?! It is part of the levelling process ! Who knows, maybe I want my Inquisitor to be more dextrous or have more health ?!

"They grow as you level" :- Not on our terms which means the grow part is moot and pointless.

We can equip gear in almost all RPGs you play, that does not mean you have to remove the attribute assignment...

Oh, let me guess, they will just spew out some PR BS on "There is more than enough choices...La la la la..."

Bioware :- Where Streamlining = Choices.

*Udina Voice* Outrage!

Ah well not a game breaker but this is by far and away the most dissapointing news I have heard in a loooonnngg time because I was looking forward to dumping all of Iron Bull's point into Constitution. :P

So I suppose unlocking doors and chests is just a universal rogue thing now, and not tied into stats?

Have to say this definitely doesn't sound like a change I would like, but like the reduction in available talents during any one combat encounter I will wait and see how it plays out.

I can't believe that this change would have gone through without extensive testing to say, 'yes people at Bioware think this works'.

*sigh*  Why fix what isn't broken?  The old system was fine.

What bothers me with this is all the talk about customization. Being able to customize your characters stats is also a part of customization, this is dumping down/streamlining, no matter how you look at it.

It will probly work just fine, its just a bit meh imo.

I get youre upset, but lets reign back the massive indignation maybe.  Mr. Laidlaw is already regretting giving an answer due to immediate response on something that was a 3 minute answer, and something we have no basis or more info on.  Lets wait till either we learn more about it, or play the game to really go off the rails

I agree, Bio on the other hand always want to inovate, sometimes its good and often its just diffrent.

Does the player have any control over what stats increase? This seems vague.

Yep... looks like this combat system was rebuilt from the ground up.  It's only superficially similar to DA:O and DA2.  Let's hope it's more fun than it sounds.

Here's what I see. Bioware "listens" to its fans and changes things so that they can make a better game. I guess no one said "I really like attributes, lets keep those."
