Maybe we will, we haven't seen all the weapons yet
And Cassandra's sword doesn't look that bad
I have zero confidence in this, the weapons in DA2 were absolutely ridiculous, they looked like WoW rejects
That sword looks awesome to me.
It's obviously a copy of the Ashbringer from WoW, which looks much better and is more practical as well. http://www.wowhead.c...3262/ashbringer
And when a WoW weapon is more practical then your own, you've got a problem.
That's fine, but they've hacked off player choice for our own characters at the goddamn knees and are phrasing it like it's the best thing for us.
because some idiots buy it.

Who says it was meant to be a sword? Maybe it was actually Hayder's shaving razer, but Hawke, being the buffoon he/she is, used it as a sword.
That's lovely! I'd love to carry something like that around especially on my warrior ladies.
And if you put a scratch on it she's liable to kick you in the shin. XD
If anyone can scratch Anduril the Flame of the West they deserve it

With the new crafting system, this is not really a problem, I think. Still why take the choice from the players? maybe I want a mage with a lot of health and a tanking side, who knows.
For example I have a creation mage that uses a greatsword on DA:O and heavy armor. I love how I can be almost anything in DA:O without restrictions on classes. Kinda sad to see they are restricting the game even more, now it is not only the 8 skills, sigh.
Yeah, this just further pushes people into using certain builds by taking away the choice to tailor their characters.
That's fine, but they've hacked off player choice for our own characters at the goddamn knees and are phrasing it like it's the best thing for us.
What's concerning is how some people are actually okay with having little agency over their character's growth.

If Cassandra can have one so can we ![]()

Truth be told, I think I would have preferred to have at least SOME type of attribute system, but I would have liked it to be revamped completely to be...I dunno, less obtuse? DA's wasn't TERRIBLE, but I thought a lot of it seemed counter-intuitive at times. Like, I think it was beneficial to give a Warrior Cunning but it didn't really...make sense? But I don't know how i would want it.
Edit: I'd love it if a dev came in and explained the decision like Lukas Kristjanson did in the healing thread. It wouldn't necessarily placate everybody, but I'd like to know their perspective on it. I don't think a tweet really does the design decision justice.
Read my post again, especially the last bit, slowly.
And you even watch the gameplay vids? There are stat requirements.
...You need to check out the gameplay previews....They do have stat requirements.
Reading your post again won't change the fact that you're still assuming things and were wrong on different classes being the same stat wise without equipping their respective gear.
And I have watched gameplay videos which addressed the talent trees... where exactly is there supposed to be a single spell with a certain stat requirement? I could be wrong but I have seen nothing of the like.

How in a game that is heavily based on character customization which fans ASKED for?

But yeah BW's weapon and armor designs tend to leave much to be desired. And I won't even be able to get modded weapons and armor this time. =/

...You do understand you can customize weapons any way you want, right?
And the ones that looked dope/legit had shitty stats.
the simple longswords in DA look nice, but anything bigger than that and they get increasingly outlandish
It's not a new concept but why exactly did attribute points have to be tied to gear?
You know the old saying "if it's not broke, don't fix it" applies perfectly to this change.
I don't know if "broken" is the right term, but the class system was so simplistic to begin with, I don't think attributes added to it much at all. There are a few examples I can think of, non arcane warrior mages who wanted to be melee hybrids, Willpower berserkers, Xbow tanks... but even that limited variation was already completely gutted in DA2.
I don't know about Divinity but you can't add attributes to characters on level up in Pillars of Eternity (I'm a beta player). Also I'm struggling to think of old school rpgs in which you could (aside from Planescape).
You get to choose your initial stat allocation or you roll on it. Its a fundamental difference to the DAI system with no choice at all.

Maybe you guy should refer to the weapons they shown for DAI instead.
...so...if I make armour that makes me meet the stat requirement for the armour I'm trying to put on...will my character's legs buckle immediately the moment she puts the new armour on because without her old armour's strength bonus, she can't wear it? :S
Mind=blown
It actually worked that way in DA:O too. It was just as silly to think about then as it will be now...
...You do understand you can customize weapons any way you want, right?
Weapon customization is not the same as having control over how your character grows.

Not fundamentally different. That just makes it partly different.

Here are two examples.

On the contrary, the attribute system in DAO/DA2 allowed for plenty of fun builds like a cunning/dex based warrior or a tanky mage. They gave players options on how to build their characters.
How in a game that is heavily based on character customization which fans ASKED for?
This is the sticking point, there is increased customisation and choice in some areas but drastically less in the area of building your character and in the abilities.
