But why would you want to make a dexterity based warrior when it doesn't make any sense and is a complete waste of resources? And I don't think you'll have a problem with building something like a rogue with high health, should be possible.

Its role playing.

precisely, what if it looks ugly?  The amount of time I have put into deciding between better looking and better armor stat wise is bordering on alarming.

There are the armor designs now so I am less worried about t, but having a fall back base stat ability is nice

Well with DA:I's crafting system they did say that you could take the appearance of an awesome looking set but with the materials you chose in making it, the stats would completely be determined by you.

If we gain attributes from armor and skills, I doubt we willl be getting warrior skills that up cunning, or mage ones that up strength

Not unless I want to lug around a piece of gear I have no use for.

Seriously, you guy have no idea what gear customization is. This is not the old system which you have to only use the weapons you find and the only customization is popping on an extra fire stat.

You can build weapons any way you want  with any stat as much as you want. It's more flexible then the old system.

That was the best tank build in DAO.  A Dex Tank could stand there all day and not get hit.

At least in Origins Dexterity made you into a Defense Tank. But that was basically was a DW warrior was. Now pumping Cunning need near nothing for a warrior so its purely gimping yourself for roleplaying reasons.

It's a rpg?

If I want to gimp myself for roleplaying reasons why on earth shouldn't I be able to?

Except if it's an aoe attack.

Maybe because I want to?This is a RPG series after all and I have made character builds that don't make sense yet got me through just fine before.

Ok, but it seems a minor issue. DA: I has a different system, we'll get use to it. No need to use the same level up system in origin. The level up system is not a major point of the game. The story and combat is. But I suppose it is for some.

To be fair people should've learned this after DA2. (then after ME3 if the message hadn't quite sunk in yet).

Oh well!

ugh cannot find the right Gollum scene on youtube

I know what gear customization is,I've played games where creating weapons and armor is required to get better.

The point of my post was that I don't want to lug around pieces of equipment that I have no need for just because it increased the attributes I wanted.

Base stats are going to be quite low I think. We've seen weapons that offer stat boosts well into the double digits. So when you put together all the available equipment that can add up to some serious stats.

I'm sorry what?

A dex base warrior really works well I hope you know.

Yes in an rpg it should be. If the sole focus is on story and combat then its not an rpg.

Sure you can, but is the reason people want the attribute system is just because the ability to gimp yourself for roleplaying. Thats not really a compelling reason to prevent switching to a different level up system.

Mind.... blown. Right you're strictly a roleplayer not a stats guy.

Hey, I'm a stats guy -- came to RPGs from wargaming -- and I can't stand increasing stats either. I can't think of anything useful the mechanism does that couldn't be done better some other way.

Edit: it might be that Morriwind discredited the concept for me. I didn't really despise the D&D 3.0 mechanic.

I really hope there isn't a jail break sequence.

I can see that being incredibly annoying. Especially if there's a Silverite Mine bug where my gear gets lost.

Except if it's an aoe attack.

Drawing AoE fire isn't really the domain of a tank.

Also, I don't count an encounter as truly successful unless I've managed to avoid taking damage in it, so AoE attacks are to be avoided, not absorbed.

I hate traditional tanking.  I never do it.  I usually don't even bring a warrior.

Indeed, that along with a high con mage are my favorite builds in DAO.

The thing is, and I think many of you don't get that, you still can. Like leaguer of one already stated, you can craft ridiculous, nonsensical gear. So if you want to gimp yourself for roleplaying reasons, the crafting system should allow you to do just that and in a much greater fashion.

Because we never should have had stat increases in the first place.  They're fixing a 25-year old problem.  And I applaud them for it.

Heh, never thought of that.

Warden could beat down three armoured, armed men while naked and unarmed. Inquisitor doesn't even lift.

I have no problem with this actually....  wow 27 reply notice.... anyway back to topic....  its trying to get us to lean more towards taking our time to decide how to build our characters via passive talents and is also leaning towards us crafting more to make up for shortcomings in the build or to increase our build's strengths.
