The thing is, and I think many of you don't get that, you still can. Like leaguer of one already stated, you can craft ridiculous, nonsensical gear. So if you want to gimp yourself for roleplaying reasons, the crafting system should allow you to do just that and in a much greater fashion.

But these are completely different kinds of decisions, aren't they? Stats are how the character is, crafting is what the character decides to do.

Because it seems unlikely that builds will be possible around it when they seem intent on restricting what skills we use

Nothing is even show to be the case.

Heh, never thought of that.

Warden could beat down three armoured, armed men while naked and unarmed. Inquisitor doesn't even lift.

XD yeah well if they ever wanted to make us feel completely weak in a segement they got an easy way of doing it. Just strip our gear and we'll be as weak as we were in the beginning of the game just about.

I think its an entirely reasonable inference to make.

Yep,that's why I dislike having my character's growth being dependent on the gear he/she wears.

Yep it takes some of the oomph out of being a high lvl badass if you're barely improved once you lose your shiny gear.

That that would mean bg1 and 2 are horrible games then.

Why are you parroting the same thing about Baldur's Gate series again and again? You could CHOOSE INITIAL STATS ALLOCATION in BG 1 & 2. Did you even play Baldur's Gate? You don't know even basic things about it.

I'll pass judgement when I've played the game. Most of my character types ended up with similar stat builds by end game anyway.

That reminds of this show I used to watch.A character had some clothes that gave him super powers but he was a weakling without them.

No one has even played the game long enough to say or even tell that a dex base tank can't work. Why are you assuming it?

That you can't allocate attribute points yourself, kinda confirmed it for me. That and the fact that DA2 already had a more clear-cut attribute optimization.

Of course I'm just presuming things but I really don't think it will be as open and unconventional as it was in Origins.

I can switch to a new class entirely.

If you've got the right stats for dual-classing. And you're playing a human

Personally, I love the Brawler Rogue. Just enough Dex to use Dual Weapon Mastery and enough Cunning to pick locks, and pop points into Strength and Constitution. Even heavy/massive armor is good for you with the right sets.

Yeah... I loved having a team of Str-based rogue Warden, Dex-based Zevran, and Cun-based Leliana... good times.  I think I'll miss that flexibility the most... The companions even have set specs, so their stats will be determined by whatever attribute bonues are linked to the passives of each... I just don't like how any of this sounds.  Even with crafting it looks like a very linear leveling system in which we'll have to go out of our way to get the attributes we want.  And even then, we'll still be pushed along a certain path based on whatever bonuses come with the specialization and weapon/spell types we choose.

No, it doesn't. I've still got a hell of a lot of say in what my character does. I can get new weapon proficiencies. I can switch to a new class entirely.

Here? You are a guy with daggers. You stab other guys with daggers. That is all you can do, and all you will ever do.

Well, class are only restricted to two types of weapons per class and each class as it's own specialty.

I said the same thing to critics before DA2 and ME3, look how well it worked out.

How? No one has even played it long enough to see if it's impossible or not. Not even normal tanking is super effective in DAI.

But why would you want to make a dexterity based warrior when it doesn't make any sense and is a complete waste of resources? And I don't think you'll have a problem with building something like a rogue with high health, should be possible.

I have a dual-wielding warrior and rogue Warden, and they both have different feels in the way they play. The moves on the dual weapon tree may be the same, but the character has different moves and other specialized talents based on class. The specialization is really key there, because warriors, I found, are better at crowd control. If I unlock the Templar specialization, I can dispel enemy magic and knock enemies back with Holy Smite. I didn't really lose anything putting lots of points in dexterity in my warrior.

In the end, the str-based rogue ended up being my favorite, but the hi-dex dual wielding warrior felt pretty special to me.

And I still don't get where this spells/talents stat requirements talk is coming from. Could someone show me some actual proof of that? Because so far, I've seen none.

Again, I wasn't talking about Origins.

What if they made a game where you could have both level up attributes and gear that gives you attributes? Then you could like have a core stat build and then like equip gear according to your needs?

DAI is about prevention, not tank and spank.
