How would it restrict anything if you can build any weapon you was to up the stats you want? The only way they can restrict you is if they restrict the builds you can make.
The main problem with this is that crafting is supposed to be optional.

And so is personally managing stats in dao and 2. Your point?
dude I hope they're not doing like Destiny; using equipment to level up, that's just horrible.

If you're the type to auto-allocate everything you probably don't even care about this to begin with. If a large part of the character build - attribute allocation - is only capable behind an optional component, it either means:
1) It's worthless.
2) It's not actually optional.
You get no input into it at the start, unlike in D&D. You get no input into it outside of the crafting system, which is optional, and outside of the talents, which are geared for max optimization . If you're a melee rogue, you're a dagger rogue, and you're a cunning/dex rogue. That's all you can ever be.
Do you not see why this could possibly be a problem?
Well we won't be as weak as we were at the very beginning of the game. Some skills increase our stats and they did say that stats would increase on their own.
Thus the just about.
Wait...the stats will increase on their own?
So they're pretty much forcing us to Auto lvl when it comes to attributes?!? ![]()

He won't, you are wasting your time.
To him, the idea of player having control over character progression and levelling is alien....

This was my exact thought. Destiny's upper levelling system is pure stupid and makes your character after lvl 20 completely subject to the crappy RNG loot system. I ragequit that game instantly when I hit that point.
Please God, don't let DAI have anything like that. ![]()
Thus the just about.

That is why I HATE this SO MUCH.
I have never auto-leveled anything in any game so far. I prefer to distribute points, perks, stats on my own.
Now Bioware is taking that away....

WTF.
So it's still done...we just have no control over it.

*rubs temples*
Also BW's auto level tends to be hot garbage. I'm not looking forward to this.

Yeah its my interpretation as well, that you will auto level to a certain extent.

+1 Auto leveling is exactly what this reminds me of. The only variation will come from our armor.

Next game they'll just go the full Skyrim and remove attributes altogether.

No, no, you can still choose in Skyrim. You've only got three, but you can still do that.

We can only hope.
How do you know the base level will be high? We've seen weapons with very high stat boosts, from that it would actually be more likely that base stats are quite low in general, so the likely differential between strength vs dex may not be that great and can be easily mitigated by specific armor builds.
Well if our attributes are auto levelled as is my interpretation then at any 1 point they will be relatively high.
Since you can customize armor, it's not the same as Destiny RNG correct?

I don't see how the italed matters. Talents are geared for optimization, sure, but stats aren't? What's the difference?

*table flip*
No, seriously, this can't be correct, can it? They're going to give us some control on the kind of characters we're going to be making, right? RIGHT? ![]()
No, no, you can still choose in Skyrim. You've only got three, but you can still do that.
But Strength, Willpower, etc. did go away. All that stuck around were the stats that used to be calculated before.

That would be a problem if you don't want to min and max with the custom weapons system.
I ask again what's the issue. It's too hard?

No, seriously, this can't be correct, can it? They're going to give us some control on the kind of characters we're going to be making, right? RIGHT?
Of course. You'll control the talents directly, and your gameplay style will control the stats.
I don't see how the italed matters. Talents are geared for optimization, sure, but stats aren't?
How does it matter?
You have no choice. At all. If you want to be a strong, brawling rogue with a Str/Con focus, no dice. You can only follow the path that the developers want you to follow, eliminating both player choice and re-playability in the process.
We've gone from a road that splits off into many roads, to a one-lane highway that you can never deviate from.
