Next game won't even have stats, just go full on Skyrim with a damage rating, armor rating, and weight

Since you can customize armor, it's not the same as Destiny RNG correct?

As long as you intend to craft. I think if you aren't going to craft, you will still be subject to the random nature of loot drops.

Least that'd be honest than this auto lvl up underneath the hood garbage

He won't, you are wasting your time.

To him, the idea of player having control over character progression and levelling is alien....

No it's not. Your missing the point here that it's not like you have no control.

*table flip*

No, seriously, this can't be correct, can it? They're going to give us some control on the kind of characters we're going to be making, right? RIGHT?

Well, you can also choose which passives you want.  They have attribute boosts as well... like in the Sabotage tree I saw some + Cun and in the Dual Daggers I saw some + Dex.  So long as you don't want to do anything zany like increase Willpower or STR on your rogue, you're all good.

This was my exact thought. Destiny's upper levelling system is pure stupid and makes your character after lvl 20 completely subject to the crappy RNG loot system. I ragequit that game instantly when I hit that point.

Please God, don't let DAI have anything like that. :crying:

Yeah I'm done with that game also, it's ridiculous.

Of course. You'll control the talents directly, and your gameplay style will control the stats.

But can I still make a mage with high constitution with this new system? If I can't, then my roleplay has been further reduced. I hope that isn't the case.

Just on the auto levelling, here's Mike's exact quote: "No, assigning stats is not part of level up. They grow as you level, buy talents, and, notably, equip gear." So yes that strongly implies auto levelling.

Yup, and since he said "notably," that would mean that we're going to have to be dependent on gear to have our chars focus on anything other than the most basic archetypal stats.

How does it matter?

You have no choice. At all. If you want to be a strong, brawling rogue with a Str/Con focus, no dice. You can only follow the path that the developers want you to follow, eliminating both player choice and re-playability in the process.

We've gone from a road that splits off into many roads, to a one-lane highway that you can never deviate from.

Did you actually read my post? I questioned what the point of the italed in "outside of the talents, which are geared for max optimization" was. I don't see what point you were trying to make with respect to talents. Your response here doesn't have anything to do with what I posted.

Before you say that you need to see the full tree.

We can only pick so much abilities at a time. For a play through the minimum is 20 and can't get through every tree with that. You do see how that tree branches and their other ability trees to pick, right?

Point is they may give you passive to boost your stats but it up to you to pick which one on which branch of the tree. This is not the link system form final fantasy.

Actually, it doesn't necessarily imply that . If talents control stats, and we control talent buys, then we control the stats to at least some extent. The question then becomes what talents you're allowed to buy, and what stats they affect.

Of couse you can. There's an entire speculation about that.

I mostly want to know how all this will affect mages, since that is/was my favorite class, and it seems they have already been beaten with the nerf bat for DAI. *sigh*

I don't understand where they're getting their ideas from. My goodness I went out to pre-order the deluxe edition to get the red halla, only to find out it's a deer. Now this!!

He states "they grow as you level". Therefore there is definitely an element of auto levelling.

You can just put strength stats in your weapons and not pick the passives.(Not sure why you don't want the crit assists.)

Wrong. You will still be able to achieve just that through Crafting.

It's funny, considering how worked up all of you are over not being able to allocate points yourself, that at the same time you seem to be unwilling to give the alternative a chance.

This is female Qunari hair styles all over again, you're making mountains out of molehills.

..... Maaaaannnnnn. The more I find out the battle system, the less excited I'm getting.

1. There's no health regen!!/Me: OMGOMGYES.
2. Limited potions!/Me: BRING. IT. ON.
3. NO HEALING SPELLS!/Me: Uh...The cooldown wasn't enough..? Okay then!
4a. Access to only 8 abilities!!/Me: Um...
4b. NO RADIAL MENU!/Me: ...
5. Bye, attribute points!/Me: :'(

I'll try to wait and see. Maybe I'll love combat. I'm just getting increasingly worried that playing a mage is going to suck. >__>

So BW's autoleveling mixed up with heavy stats from gear.

They couldn't at least let us control the auto lvling? Even if it was less stats than the previous games? Damn.
