They decided to also emulate the thing I hated most about Skyrim aside from the lack of spell creator. Removal of attributes.

I wasn't talking to anyone in particular really, just the thread as a whole. He did say he somewhat regretted giving an answer now after the reaction it garnered.  He also said though that he's glad people are still asking and discussing things about the game because it shows they still care about it

I see, well I understand he might regret answering g since some ppl might get upset, but I for one am really happy he did. Not knowing was far worse then the change itself for me.

Now that I think about it I actually like this idea. This saves me the hassle of stat management.

If instead of allocating stats passively, you instead upgrade your gear to do the same thing, then is there really a difference?

I'm assuming that gear in DA: I will give much larger stat increase then in the previous DA games.

Assuming you kept the same gear all the way through the game, no, there wouldn't be.

But a permanent +1 increase at level up of strength, is very different - and vastly more valuable from a flexibility point of view - than a +2 or even +3 strength gained from a particular item, especially if that item is low level.

The size of the stat increase isn't as important (at least based on previous experience) as the permanence of it.

Correction. Attributes have not been removed. You just don't allocate them at level up. Instead, we need to find gear upgrades to increase our stats.

Wait, has anyone said that attributes are no longer assigned at the start of the game? Because all I've seen/read is that they can't be altered on level up which is something I have no trouble with. I explained why in the twitter thread:

Assigning more stats after character creation doesn't really give you more customisation. It only lets you alter your initial decisions. Increasing the values of stats is just about gaining power. The relative distribution of  stats determines what kind of character you've made.

How's that high horse?

Oh it's an absolutely fantastic view. It's a shame most gamers of the new generation didn't experience the games we did growing up. Oh well.

Does this mean I can't dump points into Cunning for my warriors for RP reasons?

Yup, it means exactly that.

Now that I think about it I actually like this idea. This saves me the hassle of learning where to place my attributes to be effective. I had trouble with my attributes at first in both Origins and DA2.

In order to gear effectively you may need an understanding of attributes.

Considering I played Baldur's Gate when I was a kid. I already experienced this system.

Get new gear, upgrade it as well. Other games have done a similar system and its not a problem.

And a +1 at level up hardly did anything. In Origins, stats didn't being to make a noticeable difference till a +10 or more increase. Its why abilities like Precise Striking were so powerful at low levels. +10 to your chance to hit made a significant difference.

It kinda saddens me, (playing this way for so long)  Have to wait and see.  I'm still hyped for this game.

One thing I loved in both games was that limitless chest.  Having a place to put things to look at later was nice. That's just me, though.   ;)

This line of thought were "Well you will get gear and you can craft them so no need to pick your attributes on level up" makes no sense because it has been mentioned time and again that crafting is optional.

I like crafting so I can circumvent this inability to pick my own attributes but what about people who do not wish to focus on crafting ?

The most important part of levelling up your attributes on your own is that they give you a sense of personal control and growth on your character. You choose how healthy or how dextrous or how cunning they are.

Why throw that away...in an RPG game of all things ?!

It means you can dump points into cunning with weapons for your warrior for rp reason.

well that's just stupid

Wielding a warhammer shouldn't raise my skills in anything besides ability to wield a warhammer

This definitely place a premium on a good equipment and especially on crafting custom armor and weapons and the whole preparation aspect they keep talking about. But I'm not sure I like it. I enjoyed dumping tons of points into magic for my mages and just making them glass canons, because I was good at protecting them and using my warrior and rogue to pull aggro and dispatch enemies that threatened them.

If it works, it works. I'm just skeptical right because this is a rather huge change, even compared the 8 ability limit and new skill trees.

Well, they could have gone the 'respec' potion route.

One thing that could be good is this system will allow for an easier swapping of stats around.  If you're a warrior, you could carry around with you a set of gear that's more Constitution heavy and another that has lots of Strength.  For some fights, you might want to go with more health and others, more damage.

Swapping gear to swap stats seems like less hassle than chugging a respec potion and re-assigning all your stats every time you want to change your build.

I don't have an issue if there is adequate depth elsewhere. At this point I'm not sure, but hopefully with power, money, crafting and the like there is more than enough for me to be thinking about.

Wow... wasn't just earlier this week people were complaining DAI is too hard because of no heal and now it's too casual?

Seems like it.

This is a terrible decision. It's likely that the stat distribution will be suboptimal, with mandatory growth of likely useless things like Health and Mana.

some argued removing healing was casualizing as well because it removed specs and ways to play
