Wow lol heard of this from a friend and I just can't believe all the things they got rid of.

Strike 1: Limit the player to only 8 ability slots

Strike 2: No healing spell

Strike 3: No more manual attribute leveling

I imagine this is where some people are go "pre-order canceled"

Seems like a pretty silly change to me. Now with all this focus on gear bonuses I'll dump all my cunning into a set of gear I like, find something I like better, take it off and then suddenly become 15% less clever than I was before.

I'm not a roleplayer really but c'mon guys, be realistic. Allocating stats via gear 'MAKES' you RP the same gear and stats at the same time. Yeah, its dynamic, but oversimplified. I don't know how they plan to make it easy to balance for nightmare players; thats like the one thing I want to be easy for nightmare.

Well, they could have gone the 'respec' potion route.

One thing that could be good is this system will allow for an easier swapping of stats around.  If you're a warrior, you could carry around with you a set of gear that's more Constitution heavy and another that has lots of Strength.  For some fights, you might want to go with more health and others, more damage.

Swapping gear to swap stats seems like less hassle than chugging a respec potion and re-assigning all your stats every time you want to change your build.

Thats an advantage that Devs have mentioned already. You could craft armor specifically to counter every dragon in the game which I imagine would make those fights a lot easier.

They decided to also emulate the thing I hated most about Skyrim aside from the lack of spell creator. Removal of attributes.

You could assign points to either magic, stamina or health everytime you leveled up in Skyrim. So there was attribute points there. And as for skills, you could unlock perks to boost them up as you went. I thought it was an functional system. Either way, I'm not liking this. It's like the game is going out of it's way to be restrictive.

Does this mean I can't dump points into Cunning for my warriors for RP reasons?

Heh. I totally did this too. (Mostly so I could pass that persuade check in the origin.)

Actually, this gets me more excited for the game. Swapping gear with a warrior - if you need more health for a tough fight. Then switch to a gear with more strength for the in between fights.

Huh... yeah. This definitely makes me more excited for the game. Originally, I was "meh" about the decision. But now...there might be more possibilities... Dannng!

This is a terrible decision. It's likely that the stat distribution will be suboptimal, with mandatory growth of likely useless things like Health and Mana.

lol, you mean like how your health naturally increased in Origins on level up. Was that wasted potential?

Can you still assign attributes at character creation? If so I don't really see the problem. You see, my background in Dragon Age consists primarily of the 2h Reaver Warrior in DA:O. I got my 16 cunning early on so that I could max my persuade skill and after that, every single attribute point was dumped into strength. In DA2 it's pretty much the same deal. Get Constitution to 31 so you can equip the champ armor then pump Strength.

I really don't see automatic power escalation as much of a change, honestly.

Ugh. I was okay with BW 'looking at Skyrim aggressively' but I was hoping it wasn't THAT aggressively...

well that's just stupid

Wielding a warhammer shouldn't raise my skills in anything besides ability to wield a warhammer

This is just awesome news! More streamlining and dumbing down, who needs customization and choice anyway. Why? Will Bioware give us an answer?

QFT ! Worse, they are calling this "choices".

I have gotten to terms with 8 ability limit. I have gotten to terms with little to no healing options. Now they expect me to get to terms with removing the ability to allocate your attributes when you level up ?

Not happening.

I'm talking about Constitution, actually. And yeah, it was pointless. Just like the absence of health on level up in DA2 made 0 difference and didn't make constitution worthwhile.

Yeah, not like you choose every stat that goes into the armor and weapons giving you control over the stats just fine.

Nope, not a thing. Not at all.

Yep. These decisions Bioware are making....They are throwing RP options out of the window....

Maybe that's why those people playing in the latest combat vids kept spamming stealth?  They wanted to level up their Cunning.... Or would that be Dexterity?

Lmao.

I don't think you can assign attribute points at CC either. That said, I don't think what armor you can equip is stat dependent anymore either. Might just be level and class based, and if you want to use armor outside your class then you can craft it.

I'm 29. I'm an old man. LOL. I remember the BG series, not being able to allocate your points on level up was a non issue. But it was an AD&D game so it was expected.

Considering that in DA2 there was only one "right" way to allocate your points anyway, with a few exceptions here and there, with everything else being kinda suboptimal, I really don't think it's a big deal. I like to micromanage stuff but only when I have the necessary freedom to make almost all paths viable.

Yes, no one played "Bulder's gate" 1 and 2.
