The issue is well put in this post:

Diablo 3 is an action rpg, its not about character identification like in the DA series.

Technically, DAI is an action Rpg.

I just autoattacked the archdemon and spammed aoe nukes at darkspawn. Didn't know that it was more involved than that ^^

Not in the same sense as diablo and games like it.

The result wouldn't change. The method to achieve the result would change. My suggestion is about making a character feel complete a little faster without having to go through fillers for 3/4 of the game.

It's not something I'd like for a different game necessarily, but since ability slots are limited anyway in DAI, I have the suspicion that the function of the assigned buttons won't change that much come late game.

You are making way too much sense. I can't handle it. I'm used to "equipping gear with different stats is the same thing as allocating stats at level up."

Hey, that's actually great news for me who always worried about not having the right stats for some builds. Now I can just play the game and enjoy the skills I pick.

And I still don't understand why you make the assumption that the character will be unable to adapt without completely restructuring the character. I played through DA:O many times while hardly ever using more than the six abilities on my quick menu for entire areas, nor did I switch weapons. Don't use hyperbole to try and make this sound more debilitating than it is.

Am guessing that this was a Mage, as I ran out of Spell slots. And My other Classes had somewhere between 16-20 options on the Quick-bar. This should be about fully playing the character that has been created; not only a few of those abilities.

What makes you say that it will be easier?

Like I've said previously, I'm not a fan of the extent of the weapon restrictions. I'd like it if duel wielding warriors and swords for Rogues was still in, personally. That being said, a line needed to be drawn between the two somewhere. I don't mind a few restrictions, they make the choice more meaningful.

The only distinction that should have been made is in talents one can learn and number of weapon choices. I would like warriors to be able to use any weapon, seeing how they generally would have access to moderate training in all weapon types before picking a proficiency; rogues to get bows, daggers, swords and then differentiate by linking the talents to classes. Essentially a rogue and warrior could both have a sword, but they would uses it in different ways.

I'd also want to see a martial talent for mages. At least a believable staff art, you know, just in case they were cornered.

What makes you say that it will be easier?

It will because it will add points where they are meant to be for specific classes and builds.

That depends on what your reasons for killing the snake are. If you're calling me illogical, I could care less.

I guess i am calling you that.

Also, that was a figure of speech.

Ok then, that's taking all technicality out of it. Not something I look for in a game.

I don't see the point complaining about it as the game will deal with allocating points better than some people. *shrugs*

I know it was a figure of speech I caught that. I don't really care.

Archaic RPG mechanic finally removed. Do a bad stat allocation and you are screwed for the rest of the game. This way, you find out your stamina is running out too fast- slap a willpower gear, you are doing low damage- give strength/dexterity a priority etc.

Hizzah! I'm a clever one that I am. I don't care for being overanalyzed, I'm nothing special.

You say Archaic; some say customizable. And on my first session I was far from an optimal design, but still managed to make it without the Character Respec mod added later.

And good luck switching that gear during battle. And if you retreat to change out, the same can be done for abilities. But one still has the same Attributes as everyone else, and I prefer to carry the water on the inside; not found lying in the desert with a full canteen.

My character had to kill the darkspawn. It might not be logical, but it sure is perfect.

And some other ppl will be better then the game at allocating points. There needs to be a middle ground. Maybe an optional advanced auto level up system for the future where you chose one of there builds or something like that and the game will help you.

And please, don’t confuse complaining with discussing and making your opinion heard. We know Bio does listen to us, that’s one of the reasons why its important to discuss things like this.

On its own this is disappointing, but not too bad. When combined with all the other reveals we've seen that restrict choice, like having only 8 choices for talents, it's starting to make this game seem completely on rails.

We're still in the sandbox, but all the sand has frozen solid.
