Im more and more disappointed with dai first they force us to 8 slots for absolutely no reason then they remove attribute points focring us follow enforced builds instead creating possibility to create our own like that before in series...  so now i can't improve my condition because i play rogue or mage sounds great...

I don't see the point complaining about it as the game will deal with allocating points better than some people. *shrugs*

There was always an option for that. It was called auto-level. The option not to pick your own attributes has always been supported.

Now, there's nothing for those of us who want the freedom to allocate attributes ourselves, except hoping our talent selections will give us the gains we want.

Archaic RPG mechanic finally removed. Do a bad stat allocation and you are screwed for the rest of the game. This way, you find out your stamina is running out too fast- slap a willpower gear, you are doing low damage- give strength/dexterity a priority etc.

There are so many game mechanics that can be considered "archaic".By your logic levels, health bars, classes, crafting, and all that jazz should be removed because they are also archaic.

It must be a cold day in hell because for once I fully agree with you.

On the 8 skills limitation, I think we can still equip more of them through tactics for bonus AI strategies, right?

We know next to nothing about allocating ai to companions either... this close to launch.

I believe so,but any skills not selected in tactics are unusable from what I've read.

For real though! I don't know why they are removing things that weren't bad.

It's a lot easier to just take 5-10 seconds after leveling up to assign stats than to go through the effort of crafting the gear with the stats you want....

It is still not clear but I thought there had been indications that they could not be, because what would be the point of having the limitation in the first place.

True, but even if it was the original way this still leaves the problem of only having limited number of ways to allocate attributes unlike DA:O.

Hopefully there's no nasty surprises.

Probaly because some people can't fathom the thought of people actually wanting control over their attributes.Or they're in a change for the sake of change mindset.

Another unknown. We don't know if they are keeping it the same or changing it drastically like so many other things in this game.

More than anything I just want more build variety for each class, especially regarding attributes. Maybe not being able to upgrade our attributes on level up won't hurt that, but it definitely isn't going to help.

I'm interested to see how this works. I remember playing D&D when I had to roll 3d6 for each attribute, in order, and that's the way they stayed, unless something bad happened and they went down. I also remember playing the Gold Box AD&D crpgs were you had more control over your starting attributes but you didn't get to improve them at level ups. I loved the Baldur's Gate series.

That being said, I will wait and see how they handle this before deciding. I can see it not being an issue but I can also see it as a disaster.

What I would hate hate hate is to have specific attributes tied to a specific tree. If that happens, I'm cancelling the 2 games and collectors edition strategy guides. Well i probably won't go that far, but I will be livid.

Must be, because I for one love having three attribute points to put into my stats every level up.

And it's a lot easier to equip different gear than to get, and use, a respec potion to allocate all the attributes and skills.

Well I guess it is gonna be disappointing because from what I can see from the ability trees on the youtube vids it seems that only passive abilities give you attributes and its always 3 for the same attribute, depending on the true,   like always cunning or dex for rogues..

From what i remember in bg you had control over your stats with that you picked them at the beginning of the game and stats were steady for entire game save for extremely rare situations or items that could increase stat.So you had stats to 25 max with human peak 18.

Here game literally picks stats it wants instead player.

Still not getting. You fight any more enemies after the first set nor do any come into the fight. You walk into a room, enemies come in , fight them and then move on. No more comes in during the fight the majority of the time. If no enemy comes in during the fight it's not wave combat. It's happens yes but it happen very little of the time. And even then with dao the deep road had wave combat as well at times.

Yes, DAO did have wave combat. And I hated it. Wave combat is bad.

Any enemy that spawns during the encounter and then attacks is a new wave. It doesn't matter where or how the enemy appears - if he attacks before this fight is finished, it's wave combat.

And wave combat is bad. Always.

Spawning in another room does not make it wave combat. Added alot of the fight required tactics and realignment.

DA2's fights rarely required any more tactics than "retreat to chokepoint". Since the waves always spawned at the location of the original encounter, simply not being there anymore solved that problem.

Theres been no indication either way, just a lot of panicking on the BSN. It makes sense that you could set up barrier and other spells/abilities through the tactics page which would free up space in your 8 ability slots.
