As I understand, one may reverse engineer items found to gain effects for Enchanting. And I applaud the wider range of possibilities that item creation seems to have in DA.

But I am saddened by the notion that this may come from the expense of customizable builds; that every Dwarven Rogue Archer will have the same base stats as another.

Putting aside the notion that probably there are spec designed more around a specific weapon type (i didn't really think about it) you are basing your speculation that each bow dropped will have stats & bonus that will create the same sinergis with all the specialization.

Example (random number and stats inside).

in short time you find 3 bows with the same base damage:

  1. First have a dex bonus and increased willpower
  2. Second have cunning and lighting damage
  3. third have a dex and increased crit %

Probably the third will work better with assassin, the first the tempest and the second with the trap spec (the one used by varric i don't remember the name).

I'm not disagreeing with you there. All I said was that the RNG could still screw you by, instead of dropping 3 different types of bows, it drops 5 different types of daggers.

^ this. Basically if you want to keep up with the times for gear with the stats you want you will have to customise because the drops are a crapshoot.

Why are people assuming rng, it hast been in either of the last two games. I'm hoping all the rare and above are hand placed in chests, from bosses and as quest rewards.

Worst case scenario, I think. DA2 had loot drops from enemies be totally RNG, though since NPCs didn't use armour those were class specific.

You do know you could buy the best runes in the game right?

And that's the reason a massive crafting system was introduced respect origins and DA:2 (also you must add to the equation vendor and maybe quest reward).

This game it's not a Diablo 3 clone, random loot it's not the only way for changing your equip it's just one of the method.

I see this in two ways.

1.) Attributes didn't do much but make people who didn't understand much about PnP RPG systems wonder what it is they needed to build a character properly in the first place.

2.) Bioware needed to make the system as accessible to non hardcore RPGers, who might come from other video game backgrounds, or played RPG's of a less involved nature (note that most japanese games don't give you much control over stats).

Personally I'm waiting until i have the game to make any judgements, I will enjoy whatever is in the game unless its pong or ms pac. Did I like the DAO stat system yes. Did I like the DA2 stat system... less so than Origins back it was still pretty much the same. Will I like the new system they've come up with? Probably once I figure out how to optimize it. This is what we do as RPGers we learn a new system and optimize it to get the best enjoyment out of our characters.

I agree with you there. I'm not sure what we're debating, tbh.

Indeed, no evidence whatsoever. It's just a strange belief that crafting = rng farming. I find it unlikely this will happen. More likely we'll get access to materials through the Inquisition and shops.

there also seems to be an abundance of crafting materials in the world which is nice.

I'm not arguing that at all. The only rng I expect in this game is attack damage and even then its probably no where close to DA:O.

It's most likely that you can get by on drops in the easier difficulties, but in higher ones you'll want the better stat synergy from crafting.

So you can say its like Skyrim in a sense. I'm pretty sure meticulous use of crafting on Easy is equivalent to activating godmode.

Ummm, for those of you debating the inclusion of a rng system for loot drops, there is hand placed loot. Bosses, unique enemies, out of the way chests, all have hand placed loot. However even those drops still have rng determined loot side by side with the automatic drops. Enemy mooks will also have rng determined loot.

I don't particularly care about useless loot being rng. I like gathering knowledge on where all the awesome armor, weapons and now schematics are for my subsequent playthroughs which rng makes a little difficult.

I also remember them saying you can send your inquisition to do the resource gathering. They might end up picking out everything so it'll take awhile for the resources to come back, though.

But that was a awhile ago when I heard that. Things could change and maybe they don't do minor errand stuff like that.

That’s the impression I got from watching the vids, same boss or mini boss always seam to have the same guaranteed drop and so on. It don't seam like they changed the system (atleast not alot) from earlier games in the franchise.

Ok, you're not even in the demographic I was referring to.

Nice job moving that goalpost.
