If there are no attribute points, do classes have different stats?

You wont be able to put heavy armor on your mage so you have nothing to worry about

I think you get some points automatically dumped into relevant stats as you level up.
And yeah, I think armour is class locked.

Among the Circle of Magi, only a few mages have the strength of will necessary to focus their energy inward. Wrapped in protective magics and wielding blades of arcane force, the Knight Enchanters are rare, but inspiring sights as they lead the charge into enemy ranks.
That's as close as you will get to "Arcane warrior"

Weapons are class locked. I didn't think armour was.
armour is class locked. you can create heavier armour for mages/rogues through the crafting system, apparently by putting a heavier material in the slot governing armor.

and so another terrible idea from DA2 is not purged.... really what abominations from that game have been removed? The AWESOME button still appears to be ruining things, weapon and armour class locks are still a thing, back stab being a skill rather than a matter of getting positioning right, what actually has been improved (hint taken out back and shot) from that game.

DA2 didn't have armor lock. That's DAI only.
Infact you could do some surprisingly effective warrior builds by stacking +spiritdamage% which was found mostly in robes.

DA2 did have class specific amour locks, mostly with set bonus items, for example http://dragonage.wik...mpion_(warrior)
Although usually you didn't get armour pieces that didn't belong to your class.

DAO had restrictions like that as well although less commonplace.

DAO didn't have armor lock. But you never use Heavy Armor in a Rogue or in a Mage(i aware about arcane warrior, but we have Knight Enchanters now).
So, whats is the point?

mages and rogues couldn't wear templar armor cause it was restricted to templars, so yes it had armor locks even if it was only a few like that.

All the information I've seen suggests that mages can absolutely equip heavy armour. You wont be able to put heavy armor on your mage so you have nothing to worry about

I need a cite for this, because it directly contradicts my understanding of things.armour is class locked. you can create heavier armour for mages/rogues through the crafting system, apparently by putting a heavier material in the slot governing armor.

And I did put heavy armour on a Rogue. A Rogue tank benefitted from heavier armour because it drew aggro.

So, is armor class locked or not ?
i.e Can warrior wear mage's robes ? (yes, stupid question, but that's just an example).
I thought I read somewhere that there are restrictions. Maybe they were just rumors, if so then it's my bad.

I hope you're right. Otherwise my arcane warrior build is out the window!

From what we've seen so far (noticeably in the Crafting & Customization video) armor is definitely restricted to classes by the common formula. Now I don't know if that's true for every piece of armor in the game or just a few / the majority.
I hope you're right. Otherwise my arcane warrior build is out the window!
Not necessarily. A Knight Enchanter with custom gear should be able to fill that role.

As did I. For role playing reasons, every non mage character ended up in the Warden Commander set.
I never played archery rogues so they were always dex tanks with 42 str.
