How "attractive" you want to make your PC:s? How important is it?

This is pretty awkwardly shaped question, I know but just curious about this community's preferences about their created characters beauty factor.

Do you tend to make your RPG characters as attractive as possible with smooth young skin and perfect hair with no scars, frinkles, freckles and such or do you find such things details that you use to enrich your character?

I am curious to spring up some conversation about this, because I personally dont find anything more boring characters than "perfectly beautiful characters".

Nahh. I mean, attractiveness is pretty subjective.

I had a dwarf with weathered skin, and I headcanon'd him having a broken nose and a gnarly scar on his lip. I still thought he was plenty attractive. :P

When I'm making male characters, I tend to make them look at least vaguely like myself. Which isn't hugely attractive, though I wouldn't say I'm ugly. Just somewhat ordinary.

When I make female characters, they certainly lean towards what I find attractive, but I generally don't try to make them into perfect examples of beauty. Things like scars, the odd sign of aging, sometimes a slightly "odd" bit of shape to part of the face, maybe in Inq. I'll throw in a slightly broken nose on one and so on.

Oh, and freckles? Well, they definitely fall into the "attractive as possible" category

Depends on how I feel at the time.

I've had pretty guys and gals, I've had rough guys and gals.

I modeled my canon Warden after Brienne of Tarth (ASOIAF version, not GOT). She's not going to win any beauty contests anytime soon but that doesn't stop her from kicking darkspawn ass.

I'm the polar opposite of you, I can't stand ugly PCs, it defeats the purpose of the "fantasy" aspect.

I usually try to create very pretty characters but with some sort of scar or other disfigurement to show what they've been through. For example in DAO i started with really smooth flawless faces but then changed them via toolset to have scars. In Inquisition ill just start off with something like that. In Skyrim my Dovahkiin is blind on one eye.
As for freckles, i really like them so most of my chars have them.

I usually try to create faces with 'just enough' stuff on them to make them real and not over the top. So for example if i give my girl a large scar across her face i dont usually put make up on her because i imagine her character won't wear it with that thing on her face, besides visually it usually looks over the top.

It is very important to me that my characters do not look ugly. However, there are many kinds of attractiveness. My main male Shepard had eyes that looked somewhat weathered and a three-day stubble, he looked as if he was used to wide open spaces. He wouldn't have won any beauty contests, but I found him very attractive. My main female Shepard had a smooth complexion and her face looked nice enough but she had a scar on her nose before Cerberus removed that beauty spot and a face not narrow enough to win beauty contests by today's standards, but I found her very attractive.

I expect to see many different Inquisitors, who all are the most good-looking in their creators' eyes.

I personally don't want an attractive PC.  I'm going to try and make my Qunari's face look as close to Arishok's face from DAII, except I will give him dark circles under his eyes, wrinkles, scars and red outer irises with orange inner irises.  If I ever play a human, I will give them pale skin, dark circles, a bald head and orange outer irises with black inner irises.  What can I say?  I love playing a monster.

It really depends on my mood at the time combined with "What do I feel ok with staring at for the next how ever many hours?" 9 times out of 10 they look glamours, you know nice hair, light makeup and "maybe" a tattoo. Other times they have a shaved or short hair style with scares, tattoos and dark makeup.  But if I don't care for glam or dark, I try to make her look like me. Attractiveness? Well everyone is beautiful in their own way imo.  :D

Since we're using attractive in this thread to mean:  "What appeals to me." and not "Traditional, or even scientific, standards of beauty."

Then it's reasonable that the vast majority of PCs will be attractive to their creators.

My main character will have the palest skin option (would make him albino if available), aquiline features, a larger than average hawkish nose - scarred and broken - rose colored eyes - a predatory expression - and a rugged complexion.

My characters are almost always at least somewhat attractive. They can have freckles, beauty spots, small scars, or the complexion of a 30+ year old and still be attractive to me, though.

One thing I never do is make them look... super glamorous? I'm not sure of the word I'm going for... I try to make them look grounded in the setting. I don't pack on the makeup, or install mods that add elaborate, wispy hairstyles. My characters are attractive, but don't look like they are walking directly off a fashion shoot and into the Deep Roads.

All my PCs tend to be what I consider attractive (which is pretty conventional attractiveness). So yeh its important that I can make an attractive PC

I need all my PCs to look like they stepped off the runway and into battle

No, but yeah I do tend to try make my PCs attractive according to my standards, not that I always succeed. (My dudeshep in ME1, for example, looked like he'd spent some time in a burn unit.) Since I'm rolling a qunari this time around and the scars seem to be a lot more flexible, my first inquisitor will probably bear more wear than my usual PCs.

This. Very much, this.

Make-up, sparkling teeth and salon hairdos all look ridiculous to me and spoil my immersion. I'll admit I like attractive PCs, but ones who look like they've lived a bit. A few scars and wrinkles. Weathered rather than immaculate. That's why I was so impressed with the Character Creator's complexion slide.

Yup. I'm shallow like that. Part of the reason I generally go with Humans and Elves.  ^_^

Occasionally I'll add some that are less attractive, but badass nonetheless.

If I'm going to be staring at my inquisitors all day, might as well make them eyecandy.

Yes, even my female inquisitors must conform to my standards of female beauty.

Only matters if you're good at it, right?  I personally am not good at creating the perfect character, so I thank the Dragon Age team very much for presets.  I just tweak a preset and find a happy place.  Another good feature is something like the Emporium.  If your character isn't up to par, you can tweak it a bit more and smile again.  It's pure win!
