I tend to go for a different theme on each playthrough.  Interesting to see how the Hawke thing plays out - hopefully better than that ME2 to ME3 transfer (shudder).

Of course, the guy on my avatar came out with an awesome Tom Selleck look, but he looks nothing like himself from ME2...

I want them good looking, or what I think looks good at the moment.

For example, when I first played ME2 and created a custom maleShep, I thought he looked just fine, in retrospection, he's... well, a bit bewlo ordinary.

Depends on the character I'm making, and what type of game it is.

In MMOs, if I'm making a female character, I'll always choose a human or human-like race and make them as attractive and sexy as possible. I know some people are tired of hearing this excuse, but if I"m gonna be staring at an ass all day... :D When I make a male character, I generally choose one of the more hulking, brutish player races. In World of Warcraft, for example, my male characters are an Orc, a Tauren, and a Dwarf, while my female characters are a Draenei, a Blood Elf, and a Night Elf.

As for DA specifically, I'm not sure I'll go for attractiveness as much. Compared to most MMOs, DA doesn't let you see your player character as well. Also, Bioware is often too trapped in the uncanny valley for me to consider their characters "attractive".

About 2 years ago I swapped playing mostly on console to mostly on PC and I wanted to recreate some of my Sheps. Somehow the translation of one of my Sheps got morphed a little (I couldn't help tweaking) and before I realised what I'd done I'd got to far in the game to make changes. It doesn't matter too much in gameplay and even in cut scenes, it's only when I take screenshots I think - ugh, what the hell were you thinking Bugsie?

So answer is yeah I sort of like my PCs to look nice. Although really ugly Sheps in cutscenes are kinda hilarious.

My male Hawke is the most attractive character I've made to date. Combined with a sarcastic playthrough made me have a bit of a pixel crush on him.

Depends on the character really, I know I'll probably end up attempting to model a qunari after the orc in my avatar. In that circumstance obviously the goal would not be a pretty face :)

I like my characters having pretty faces and scars, both male and female. From what I've seen from the CC video, I'm liking the options.

As close to what I consider beautiful as the settings will allow.

I like my male PCs to look like generic male leads.

I like my female PCs to look like the woman of my dreams.

I like my PC to be aesthetically pleasing. This is not quite the same as being "attractive" though.

I want to make a qunari whose face looks as if you could cut roast beef on it, but has damn good hair. Without mods the latter seems impossible.

I usually prefer making PCs I think are fairly attractive. Usually because unattractive character creations aren't a 'natural' sort of unattractive, but more alien and bizarre.

My main PCs are almost always highly attractive---to me. Friends and family disagree, stating that I have "weird taste" or something along those lines. My main DA:I PC will be a male elf, smooth skin, with angular features. I can see him in my head, but I am terrible at describing.

Sometimes I like to do the opposite! Give them the snootiest face ever, and have them be a sweetheart. Or a really fun one was when I did the Orlesian Warden as the cutest little sweet faced dwarf---but she was a manipulative jerk!

Overall, I don't have any particular preference via HOTTIE/regular/uggo. I play with the CC until I find a face that's interesting to me--interesting because it's gorgeous or unique, or makes me think of particular traits, or people, or I'm like "ahahhahaa I can't wait for Alistair to call this old boat beautiful"

Doing the opposite is fun too. I'll probably make a sweet chubby faced dwarf at one point with big doelike eyes and a big dagger he can shove into everyone's back. Or the big ole qunari  with all kinda scars and broken horns that's just a sweetheart.

I just like having the looks say something about the character, even if it's the wrong thing. If that makes sense, I don't like them looking just..generic? A face that has character.

Well attractive being not a completely accurate term but I get your point.

It is very important for me to make an attractive character because:

1- I'll be looking at that character all game long.

2- I consider myself to be ugly in real life, would hate to be ugly or just average in game when I can actually look great for once.

I tend to make my human male PCs attractive in my eyes, but with imperfections like scars if they can be added. They almost always have facial hair (having just a moustache is a big NO-NO as I don't find any man with one attractive), tanned to very dark skin, and shoulder length or longer dark brown or black hair. They usually end up looking like they're in their late thirties or early forties.

My Elven male PCs tend to have tattoos, very dark skin, short to shoulder length light blonde or light brown hair, and look like they're in their mid-to-late thirties.

My Dwarven male PCs, well, their look can be all over the map, but they ALWAYS have big, fluffy beards, usually dark red, ginger, or black in colour. Most have mowhawks or have their hair in braids.

Now, for my female PCs, it's just... whatever suits me at the time of their creation, really. I put much more thought into the creation of my male PCs than the female ones as I prefer playing males.

In short, yes, I must have an attractive PC if I'm going to be staring at them for any length of time. I won't make an ugly one, not even for science. I tried once... couldn't make it five seconds without starting over due to laughing so hard. Sorry, but if you're gonna be played by moi and I can have control over how you look, you WILL be what I consider attractive. No ifs, ands, or buts about it. :P

Yep, I want pretty characters. Someone earlier in the thread used the word 'grounded' and I think that's a pretty good term for what I go for. I'm not afraid of imperfections and the like, but I'm no student of the Cameron Lee School of Beauty & Esthetics; I avoid over-the-top or unnatural hair styles and colours, bright make-up, etc. Even beards/moustaches on my male characters are dicey. The wrong choice will end up grating on me after a little while.

So... going for a little rough and badass here.

In my first playthrough of Origins I used the default human noble character because I was new to the genre and it was my first game on the ps3.  I was very unsure of myself.

By the time I did several plays and went onto DA2 I spent a lot more time and then would usually change my look with the black emporium mirror.  My favorite Hawke ended up looking like Dulci de Launcet (something like that) and a lot like Charade, too.

This time I will probably still go for pretty, but add freckles and a little bit of age.  I'm no youngster myself so that would be closer to my reality.

I tend to make attractive characters with freckles.

I try not to make them look like supermodels. I don't give warriors, or even rogues really frou-frou hair. And I like to give them some personality to their faces. I don't like all my characters looking the same. I'm looking forward to Inquisition, the cc seems like it's easier to make different characters look different. In origin and DA2, I had a lot of trouble getting characters to look different. They always ended up with the same face shape.

Yep, pretty much this.  I don't find lip-glossed, made-up teenagers attractive in the FIRST place.

DA2 drove me NUTS because I wanted Hawke to look age-appropriate for her family and if I used the complexion slider I liked she looked OLDER than her MOTHER--and if I used the next one down she looked YOUNGER than CARVER.  So, yeah, I like having lots of options to add character to my character.  Subtle is better.  This is the first face I made with the DA2 character creator:

DAIIAsther.png

I honestly didn't know you could make faces with that kind of detailed slightly aged complexion. Clearly, I didn't play around enough with the character creator :P

Edit: went back and messed with the mirror of transformation. My FemHawke looks horrible with that complexion, hahaha. You did a fantastic job on yours :)

My first few characters (and all my female Quizys) will be good looking, since I have to look at them for hours and hours (or get to as the case may be). But if the age sliders and options end up working well I'll have an older Inquisitor and maybe some others as time goes on.
