I think the Dalish eat venison that doesn't come from Halla. At least I hope they don't eat Halla. There were whitetail deer or Roe deer or some deer in the Dalish Origin when Duncan was narrating about hunting.
dalish are hunters, so i imagine they eat deer and other wild animals
I actually imagine they eat fruits and stuff, including meat thay are not the type of "vgeterian elves" ya know classic elves and etc, I font imagine them eating anything with eggs milk and stuff maybe but not a lot, I imagine they dont have lots of potatos, cuz it dosent grow a lot in the wilderrnes and I imagine them eating like the amazon tribes XD
also for city elves I imagine they eat A LOT of soup cuz in the Medival Ages soup was the food that poors have eaten so, fits the city elves perfectly and sadly :/
I was thinking boiled or fried elfroot, but is that a vegetable or just a garnish? It's common and safe to eat, so they probably use it for cooking in some way...

Dalish: are nomadic hunter-gatherers, so I imagine they eat whatever game they can catch (deer, rabbits, etc) and live off whatever foliage happens to grow in the area. DA2 Merrill mentions how they have to move around because if they stay too long they'll over-hunt the animals in one area, and mentions she misses Ferelden because blackberries grew there, while none grow in the Free Marches.
City elves: probably eat the same or similar things humans do, only for poor people. In the City Elf Origin, we see an elf moving a herd of goats, so they probably have at least goat dairy and goat's meat. Some of the ambient background noise also sounds like a chicken "b-GAWK"ing, so they probably have chickens and eggs. EDIT: There's also a tiny lettuce garden between houses, so they probably have urban gardening.
Then, of course, Shianni mentions the "rabbit stew" made from "rabbits of the city." And they also live on grain, since one epilogue slide reveals that food shortages thanks to the lingering darkspawn taint poisoning farmlands (following the Blight) eventually led to food riots.
As for specially prepared elven dishes cooked in a way that humans don't... *shrug* Don't know, BioWare doesn't reveal. Since Thedas is basically fantasy Medieval Europe, and Ferelden is fantasy Medieval England, I looked up what most people and peasants ate back then to get an idea.
This is just my own thoughts and headcanons on the subject, so don't take it as lore-supported. Just thought I'd share what I constructed on Dalish diets based on research of similar societies. ![]()
As nomads, the Dalish more than likely subsist through hunter-gatherer methods, so I imagine game and foraging are parts of their diet. It would be high in protein and reliant on what hunters can catch in order to properly feed the clan. With that in mind, they hunt whatever is around them - deer and other large game, and ducks or other small animals like rabbits would be the most likely. I would say bear but apparently it's sacred to the Dalish god Dirthamen, and it would be extremely risky to hunt, plus bears are reservoirs for diseases like trichinosis. The Dalish likely use as much of the animal as possible to avoid wasting anything, so things like the liver and the brain might be considered delicacies. Meat would be dried in the sun and cured with wild peppers - this allows the Dalish a non-perishable foodstuff they can eat while traveling, and would also give them something to keep in stores for when live game is scarce.
Foraging-wise, collection of nuts and berries, as well as edible vegetation, is quite common in nomadic societies in order to diversify their food resources (even if it only contributes fifteen-ish percent to most nomad diets). In specific areas where they grow the Dalish clans might also eat non-toxic mushrooms, turnips and wild potatoes which they would mix in with their proteins. Stews would be common meals after catching fresh game. Berries could also be made into a sort of sauce or soupy concoction for dessert, and thickened with powdered turnips.

Remembers the insult "rabbit" being used for elves.
Cries at where mind went.
I'm sorry I'm sleep deprived and weird.
I kinda imagine that my main cannon Warden Zivva Mahariel made her companions very happy, bringing boar, venison and sometimes even bear meat (which she secretly called Fen'harel Special).. she ditched Alistair's cooking right off the bat, especially after tasting the "lamb" he cooked.
But on topic, city elves eat what they can get, beggars can't be choosers (sad truth about them). Dalish probably get their food from their hunts, I also imagine that they may raise some easy to move animals such as chickens, pigs, etc.
