I'm very excited by the possibilities of the perk system. It looks like we can decide what are Inquisitor is knowledgeable about. So there's no reason I can't make a rogue with a passion for the arcane. Our Inquisitors could be infinitely varied if they pull this off.

Wonder if they will affect our attributes as well? I've actually almost forgotten about this feature.

I think it's great and it really does make it so that I can have similar mc's but have their knowledge differ.  I'm keen on the arcane knowledge one for sure.

It's quite unfortunate.

As for perks, I am going to pick all the ones that add more conversation options that I can, since there seems to be no persuade skill to level.

I wonder how well this will truly transition to dialogue. BioWare has a poor history of making intelligent PCs

I'm looking forward to this a great deal. I heard it also influences dialogue options. Maybe we'll get alternative quest resolutions enabled by perks as well. That would be fantastic.

I wonder what kind of goodies I'll get on the Connections/Josephine side.

There are four perk categories, one for each of the advisors and another that has "general" perks. I remember watching a video where they briefly showed the general perk list; one of them was similar to Arcane Knowledge, but focused on the history of Thedas and the Chantry rather than magic.

Perks are unlocked using influence, which is separate from the power resource you use to unlock new areas or operations. I'm unsure how you go about earning influence though, since most exploration and quest resolution in the videos reward with power.

EDIT: The history perk is called History Knowledge and was shown briefly in IGNs Gamescom coverage of DA:I

The answer is simple, replay Origins. All the Lelinana you can want. :)

So basically the Inquisitor gets to be a huge geek about the topic(s) of your choice? I like.

LOL, the perks get even more attractive if you put it that way.

If anyone is still looking for the original video, which I had somehow missed too, it's this one:

I think this implementation of perks is really awesome.

Rewarding you for your specific playstyle while being completely optional and unobtrusive sounds fantastic to me!

Hopefully the new dialogue options display more than a mere awareness of the topic. Like, if I take perks for historical knowledge, I want my character to actually display some mastery of the topic. For example, if the topic is the Fourth Blight, don't have my character say, "Isn't that the Blight led by the famous elf Garahel?" That's something a noob would say. Instead, have him say some famous quote from a book on the events, and then have Josephine say something like, "I'm impressed! You've read Isseya's memoirs?" "Of course, though considering the source I'm skeptical of the accuracy."

Hehe, this creates images of the Inquisitor out-geeking everyone else:

Inquisitor: "Hmm...these must be the ruins of Ostryn estate, where Lord Darrian Ostryn was betrayed by his Chantry-sanctioned house mage for making him wear the regulation coif, the event which led to the second revision of Circle rules in 2:35 Glory"

(Everyone looks at her strangely)
Varric: How do you know that?

Inquisitor: It's from the legendary volume XVI of Sister Sharis' History of Magic. You know, the one that was lost and only recently resurfaced when the library of Duke Prosper de Montfort was looted by his rivals after his death in 9:34 Dragon. You mean you don't know it? We have it back at Skyhold."

I hope it lets me remind people how things went historically. Like

"hey remember the last time you didn't listen to a person gathering armies and signing treaties? "
