Should the game reward you for reading codex's?

I think we are all guilty of this at some point or another where we don't take the time to read any tidbits of lore we find lying around in games. So would it be beneficial to read codex's and say we unlocks special events or Dialogue with NPCs and such? The only way they would be known to us is if we read the stories and lore behind them. Thoughts?

I don't think so. Personally,I loved reading the codex entries in previous DA games, but others may find it extremely boring. Maybe unlock a few dialogue options if you acquire a particular codex entry would be cool.

Nah... if they do anything like this, it should be like Summoning Sciences or Unbound in DA:O, where we know exactly which entry is giving us clues on how to get through a specific quest or w/e...  this info should not be placed randomly in unmarked codex entries. I also don't like the idea of having dialogue options based on this... what if we don't stumble across that particular codex entry until we're past the point where it's relevant in dialogue?  We're already going to have Inquisition perks that open new dialogues on certain topics... I think that's about as far as it needs to go.

Despite loving the lore I never read Codex entries. Someone with a great voice needs to record them all so I can listen to them while taking the bus or something.

I do like the idea of having codex point you do some hidden area that the only other way to discover is by randomly finding it while exploring. It gives readers a upper hand by taking the time to read but no so much as to lock anyone out of content if you don't. Sorta like a map quest.

I only bring it up because writing lore seems like a rather thankless job. You have the majority of people who just skip over all the little lore bits that was taken the time in putting into the game. Maybe they could do it like in ME3 or Diablo and have some narration over the Codexs.

I usually don't pay much in depth attention to lore until I've finished the game. Like for the past few months I've been discovering new things about Origins and DA2. I love it.

A monetary reward might give people more incentive to read the codex entries.

I vote for Varric to narrate!

This is a great idea.

I love getting XP from exploring everything and reading the codex. It makes finding everything more rewarding!

It should reward you for collecting them with dialogue options, like Alpha Protocol.

I like the idea, although in this case I think Inquisition perks are taking the place of that.

Looking at the wikigameguide playthrough, I noticed some of the codex entries could be used to hint at what sorts of enemies you were facing next. That would be useful, finding references to some monster in a cave, and you could read it and figure it's a wyvern, and go in suitably prepared, or decide to wait until you are at a more appropriate level.

Interesting. I had heard rumours, but I didn't see that mechanic until now. Thanks. As a RPG lover, unlocking news dialogue options will be one of my priorities in DA:I.

I do not think so, reading codecs and little tidbits info we find in-game are a lot of fun, for me at least, instead of a "reward system" they could do something like: If you read codex x, y and z some additional dialogues and strategies would become available to you in-game at a certain time/place.. but I dunno if the game AI is so evolved right now to allow this kind of behavior  ... anyway, I think something like that would be the best reward and incentive to the player to look more and more for additional lore/codex/tidbits

But reading them is it's own reward!..

I really do enjoy reading the codex entries. But maybe I'm in the minority.

There were rewards in the entries of DAO; the library in the Circle, had a hidden Boss fight or two were listed in entries.

And the Codex helped explain details in DA2; missed these initially as I do not usually read them, but am now glad I did.

No, I didn't even like it when we had to refer to the notes section for quests in DAO, but if it was more complicated then that it'd be a seriously nuisance.  I am glad that most likely there won't even be a way to tell if you read them or not.  (at least I hope not, it always drove me nuts in Kingdom Hearts the way the journal would flash like crazy every time it recorded new information and continue to do so till you look at every single unimportant thing inside the journal)
