Yeah, you could. The only difference is that the shield would also chop off her head with a satisfying crunch. Try it!
The shield bash works, but I haven't noticed any decapitations.

There is a bit of variability. In some games it worked every time; in others it was intermittent. Hard to say if it's related to lag.
The 'crunch' sound effect is the most obvious clue that the gauntlet decap is happening. The shield ragdolls mooks so frequently that it's sometimes hard to notice the missing head as the nemesis/maurader/collectors body goes sailing into the distance. Conversely, mooks will frequently die due to the Fire Shield's DoT effect so you won't seen any exploding heads in that instance either.

Yea, I tried against Reapers, Collectors would have been better - Abominations are a good tell whether the head is off or not.
