Right? Glad I'm not the only one "Married to Rowan, a Beautiful woman...but damn...Dat elf booty be too strong to resist. "
And Maric isn't the only head of state in the DA verse with a creepy fixation on dat elf booty.

Gryphons are a race... they are dying (technically), right now, I'm pretty sure they are in the "still hopeless" category of the "endangered species" spectrum :-)

I think it's the fact that he kept bringing up their elvishness.
"There was a beautiful woman... WHO WAS AN ELF. She had lovely ELF eyes. She was slender and delicate... like an ELF! With pointed ELF EARS!"
I mean, its good to give your hero flaws. It allows you to look at them from different points of view, and may change your opinion of the said hero making you think they are bad people...but really...two elves in Stolen throne! I would think all of his wild oats would have been sowed then, but comes The Calling Nope! Fiona next on Maric's Elven "Do" list.

I think the dwarves are substantially more at risk than the elves. While the elves are oppressed, they are still numerous. Putting aside the Dalish, I think by all indications there are substantial numbers of CEs.
On the other hand, the dwarves face an encroaching genocide. That's... pretty bad.

Accoding to lore, humans find elves naturally attractive.
Dwarves probably have a higher survival rate if they relaxed their surfacer prejudice. They are atleast respected more than the elves

I always find how elven women to be the 'downfall'/weakness of Empress and Kings funny.
From Katriel to Fiona to Biara. All elven women and all able to seduce the most powerful person in the country.
So i do not think elves will die out. They will just need to send one and seduce the monarch and laws will be passed in their favour.

I looked around the wiki and WoT but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for, so here's a question for you forumites.
The dwarves (proximity to the Taint adversely affects fertility; neverending war with the darkspawn results in a constantly dwindling population) and the elves (crazy elf genetics means they can eventually be bred out; bloody conflicts with humans only getting worse as of TME) are in pretty dire straits. Assuming nothing gets better, which race is most likely to go first?
And no, "the elves will because my Quizzy will sLAUGHter THEEEm!!1" or "the dwarves because that much facial hair near that much lava is a serious fire hazard" are not good answers.
I have no idea what the population of elves is in Thedas. I know they outnumber humans in the Dales. Then you've got all the Alienages, the wandering Dalish, Tevinter's slaves which I believe are mostly elven... I won't even touch Par Vollen.
Apparently Orzammar's population is over 100,000 but then there's also Kal-Sharok, not to mention all the surface dwarves...
So yeah. Who's kicking the bucket first?
dwarves without a doubt, they have a low population in thedas compared to the other races, with only two "homelands" (i say it like that cause theres probably plenty of dwarves that have allegiance to the major nations of thedas, ferelden, orlais, etc.) and their homelands are underground cities that the darkspawn are so ready to attack if they feel like it/have the numbers. i would say elves but since tervintor uses them as slaves it seems unlikely that they would be wiped out, since i'm sure tervintor breeds their slaves so that they have spares and to replace those that die or grow old.

IMO elves will die first because the dwarves have, blehen, human military aid, and golems in my play through so they should be absolutely fine unless a arcdemon knocks down the front door
They live right next door. It's entirely possible!

Yeah, I do think Maric is a dick truth be told. I never much cared for him too much especially with how he handled Alistair and didn't even bother checking up on him.

When my Inquisition is done with that slight distraction called the breach, then the real war begins.
The annihilation of Par Vollen.

Dwarves.
Elves are in no danger to die out as a species; they've been coquered for 700 years, yet they make up the vast majority in the Dales.
Elven culture however, is in danger, Dalish efforts to preserve scraps of lore can only go so far.

It's definitely dwarves. Elves are second class citizens and are looked down upon by everyone else but they are quite numerous and in no danger to die out at all. Even with Behlen in charge the Dwarves are still kind of a dying race. Remember, Behlen will eventually die and then the assembly will probably d*ck around long enough for his progress to be nullified.

I give it a few decades before the elves are bred out of existence.

People think it specifically because of the implications. They want Maric to be Morrigan's daddy so that the old god baby she has with Alistair is the Mordred to his King Arthur.
I can see the appeal, but don't buy it.
Anyway, on topic. I have to imagine that the dwarves have a stable enough population on the surface that even were Orzamar to fall tomorrow their race would continue on. I also don't see any particular evidence of the elves being bred out of existence being an immediate concern on anything short of a geological time scale.

Dwarves are more at risk short-term. In the long term though, Elves seem fated to disappear due to the weird way their genetics work.

It's kind of a shame there are no true half-elves in the series. Having the half-elves being largely sterile (as many hybrids in the animal kingdom are) would also solve the problem of being bred out of existence.

Nugs if I have anything to say about it.
