So was thinking on this and was wondering how Bioware will work the Inquisitor's age in this one. In Origins, the story greatly lended itself to (and quite frankly required in several origins) a younger protagonist. Same with Hawke to an extent.

However in the brief summaries given of the current backstories, it seems like there is a lot more room for an older inquisitor. I'm wondering if Bioware is going to leave the age of the Inquisitor completely open or give strong hints as to the age range like in previous games.

I'm curious as to how, if our PC is indicated as younger, if there will be mention of it in some of the character relationships. Not just romance, but using it as an example...Cassandra is mid-late 30s as I understand it. If my Inquisitor is around 20-25 range...will there be mentions of Cassandra as a cougar?

Just wondering what role Age will play. Obviously subtle like previous if any at all..

The devs have said that the Inquisitor's age will be from 20-40 years old. How old they are is up to you.

yeah, origins really did do that.... if you made a character who looked 80 and put him/her into any of the origin stories it would seem weird.... the youngest child of the couslands is 80, a city elf that is set to get married is 80, the youngest child of king aeducan is 80.... really weird.

DA2 not so much, you could get away with making a late 20s hawke or 30s hawke and still be ok as its only 10 years....  its not like hawke has to be 18....

course my inquisitor is gonna be early to mid 20s.... gotta chase them cougars in cassandra, josie (though not sure about age on her), and at least hit on leliana and morrigan

I just hope that ends up being true, and people don't call us 'kid' all the time or something, or remark how young we are for our role...

Judging from the two male voice options, the inquisitor is approximately 48 years old

Hawke's exact birthdate isn't known but we actually do have it narrowed down to a year or two; Gamlen said Leandra left with Malcom twenty five years before they showed back up in Kirkwall, and Legacy shows that Leandra was pregnant when they left, though it doesn't specify how far along they were.

So Hawke is either 24 or 25 by the start of DA2 and ends it in his/her early thirties.

As for the inquisitor, that's just gonna fall into the vague age category.

Someone in their 50s I think could still get away with it.

Her writer Sylvia said that Josephine is in her mid to late twenties.

Well, aren't Dwarves like Elves when it comes to age? So 80 might be like middle age or something. City Elves, I'd say has the same as a human, if not younger cus they live in the slums.

Elves, humans and dwarves all have the same lifespan, more or less. Qunari might live a bit longer due to medical advances.

My human male Inq will be late 30's. Greatness came later in life....gives me hope.

I felt I had to roll a younger Warden because of the whole interaction with your parents. Glad this is being addressed this time around.

The human noble was Fergus' younger sister or brother and guarding the castle with him and your dad gone was to be their 1st big responsibility, so they must've been late teens  (17-18) to early 20s (imo 23-4 at the most).

The mage was young because they only became an official mage (non-apprentice) during the origin, they could be as young as 15-16 or up to 23-4 like the HN imo, because you're described as a prodigy (fastest Harrowing ever, star pupil) so Irving would think you ready at a younger age than lesser apprentices.

The dalish elf was a hunter, implied to be reasonably experienced, so you could possibly be older but not too much since you're supposed to be around (or even the same) age as Tamlen, who looks in his 20s, so imo 22-23 to 28-29

The city elf is on their wedding day, so probably 18 to 20, though the marrying age is never stated

The dwarf commoner could be older since the sister is a younger one and she's of marrying age, so maybe 25. Could be a bit younger or a few years older. It's implied you're Leske's age and he could be in his 30s for all we know, but you probably don't have too much difference with your sister either, which is why 25 sounds probable to me.

The dwarf noble is the middle child of King Aeducan, so likely a few years older than Bhelen, who's an adult, so at least 23 I guess, could go higher but not too much because first, Trian doesn't look that old and second, because your father says you're the best warrior of the House but he's only just now giving you a unit to command

Hawke had to be at least 20 (or 19 if Malcolm and Leandra were crazy about having kids) since Carver and Bethany are twins and they're 18, but the Legacy told us Leandra  was pregnant when she fled Kirkwall with Malcolm 25 years ago, so 24 or 25 depending on how far pregnant she was.

Bump all those by 11 years for Inquisition. Where they said 20 to 40 in a general sense but I think that doesn't apply for all of them. The non-mage humans are a younger sibling and their description says they're to be forced into the chantry or templars, not have been, they haven't started their career yet, so they must be pretty young, I'd guess around the Cousland Warden's starting age. And the Dalish Mage is still a First, though I suppose it's possible for one to be 40 the Firsts we've seen were young, in their 20s. The others have more leeway. Dalish Warrior or Rogue is a hunter, a very trusted (or most trusted) one since they're given the task to spy on such a big event, they could be any age where it's reasonable to be a hunter. Human Mage was part of a Circle when the war began, Circles have members of all ages. The dwarves are Carta members, same applies. And the Vashoth are mercs so same applies too

Presumably we won't see the Dalish Keeper either, so she could easily be old/elderly, and the Inquisitor has simply been her First for many years. Sort of like how some monarchs don't replace their parent until they're pretty old themselves.

The only weird thing about an older Inquisitor, at least if they are a human noble, is why aren't they married yet? Heirs and spares, and all that.

I guess its because they apperantly aren't as important as house Cousland.

I think I'll set a rough range for my Dalish Inq of about 38-41, the upper end being my actual age, I've said it before but I'm glad I can actually create a character my own age, I tend to self insert a lot..I can't help it, so for me this is a good thing.

That depends on whether or not we'll actually meet any of the human inquisitor's family, in my mind.

From what we know about the human origin, we're essentially playing as Sebastian; they had the heir, they had the spare, and we were the third wheel that they sent off to the Chantry or that got taken to the circle.

Isn't the human Inquisitor the third child or something? A third child (especially if male) most likely stands to inherit little and thus has little to offer on the marriage market except a possible political alliance with the Trevelyan family. Third sons were often (historically) sent to become priests/monks, or became soldiers to make their own fortune. The Inquisitor-to-be could be the third son sent to the Chantry or left to his own devices, and thus has not married. It's not at all inconceivable that they could be in their mid-thirties and be unmarried. It would be a little more unusual for a female, since noble daughters were often valuable bargaining chips for alliance building with other noble houses, but it's still possible if the daughter was taking holy orders or was especially unattractive or just plain stubborn/difficult. There are many ways of explaining it that would be plausible.

90 years old.

Although, being serious now, Bioware have always had their protagonists quite young in the past. Baalspawn was 20 years old when he/she left Candlekeep. The Hero of Neverwinter (if left unchanged in the character creator) by default is 18 (although since you could manually change it, you could add any age including anything in the hundreds which could fit well with the elves, dwarves, gnomes and halfings who can live for hundreds of years but not for non-wizard humans).

I'd say it makes sense for the Inquisitor to be older though just like Shepard. I think we'll get the same sense of respect and authority that we had as Shepard in the Mass Effect series and I don't remember anyone calling them a kid. So given the circumstances, I'd say that 30-40 sounds just about right and the Inquisitor probably doesn't have any visible family we'll encounter so there won't be any awkward moments with a grey/white haired winkled Inquisitor standing next to his/her father as they call them their "youngest" lol.

I would lean more towards 24, since I don't think Malcolm would put Leandra through traveling if she was too far along.

Well personally I don't want to marry ever (made an exception in DAO cause it made me Queen) so my non-mage Trevelyan just refused all proposals. And had plans to avoid a chantry/templar career too

Agreed on everything else, but this isn't quite right. Rica is your older sister - she practically raised the DC. The toolset (I know, I know- not exactly reliable) says she's 22 which would mean Brosca is at most 21, if not a fair bit younger. Guess you grow up fast in Dust Town.

For trivia's sake, the toolset has Bhelen at 21 and Trian at 25, putting the DN somewhere in the middle.

Ah ok, thx for the corrections. I've only played the dwarf origins once to see what they were like so my knowledge of them isn't too extensive
