Commander Duhaime looks totally out of place. There should (!) be an explanation why he is twice the size of other humans. Otherwise it's a gratuitous design decision which kills immersion and credibility. It was something I liked about DA so far.

It is possible that you could run across some sort of journal entry or something saying that he had, say, gigantism, but considering the fact that some of the other mini bosses look larger as well, I'm thinking that is unlikely.

At around 9:50 you can see him next to Cassandra for comparison.

Sigh, I hope someone mods it. I really doubt they will change it now but yes this is typical for MMOs.

That's stupid in MMOs then, too.

WoW's still 20 times worse with this. Every single character that should be player-sized is double our height. Half the time I wonder if it's that we're just ridiculously short.

I guess it's not a huge deal in Inquisition but it certainly takes you out of the immersion for a moment when you see a human sized dwarf.

When you're trying to target the boss when 40 other people are swarming it you'll be glad that it towers over everyone else. Sorry, but sometime immersion has to take a break for game play.

In MMO it makes sense, sometimes it is even more the 40 players. I play Guild Wars 2 a lot and believe me sometimes you do not even see what you are doing with all the skills and people around the world events.

But for a single player rpg I really do not see the point, unless it is a byproduct of the tactical camera.

Could it be a side effect of the new enemy? Could we see some dwarves change in mid combat.

I'd hate to take you guys to an NBA game. We'd be tossed out after you rushed the court the first time.

"You sir! Your extreme height is not typical of the fans enjoying this spectator sport! This is ruining the game's verisimilitude! I demand you explain why you are so much taller than me!"

I don't understand. How does this even relate to the tactical camera?

When they said that they'd make this game a mix between DA:O and DA 2, it appears what they really wanted to tell us was "We'll completely ignore DA:O and make this game way more comicy and mmorpg-ish than even DA 2 was!".

Perfectly calm.

In basketball, the captain/stronger member in the team isn't always the tallest, and he isn't vastly taller Then every me member or the team .
Though this thing isn't ruining the game for me.

Since it doesn't seem to be the case for all mini-bosses, I'm still hoping that there's a valid explanation for the unnatural height - out of all the ones we have seen, only Duhaime and the Carta Leader felt really out of place.

Sister Costeau was a bit tall, as was the mage boss at the end of the Emerald Graves video, but they were a lot more tolerable than Duhaime.

Highly doubt there's gonna be a lore reason, and even if there is, its probably gonna be "Because Magic, now shuddup", which will aggravate people even more. Its very likely just gameplay aesthetic to differentiate the mini-bosses. And as mentioned, it seems to insinuate that we players are too dumb to figure out who's who. Then again, this is a game that also introduced enemies who carry around invulnerable shields of the gods which can deflect any and every frontal attack, as well as going full-on Diablo 3 with regards to character progression. Not a direction that I like at all, but as if Bioware gives a damn.

Yeah, he was very tall, but a 7 foot human isn't that unrealistic, even less so in a fantasy world with a huge number of varying influences. Duhaime on the other hand just makes you think "what were they feeding that thing?".

Sure, they were tall, but not unnaturally tall.

Avvar are the same people as the rest of Fereldan, Alamarri.  We met an Avvar in DA:O - Maferath.

When I saw the video of Cassandra using her shield to bounce one of the dragons breath attacks back, I couldn't believe what I had seen. It is too much "Legend of Zelda" for me to believe I had actually seen it in a Dragon Age game.

When you use tactical camera as a default normally devs make people, armor, weapons a lot bigger. There is a dev post in Pillars of Eternity about that, that is why I said that.

The weird thing is that the visual cue is not even needed. We are able to pause the game with the tactical camera. Why couldn't that be utilized if someone lost a boss in a crowd?

Yes it's needed so people can recognize visualy a mini-boss/boss level enemy without cycling every single mob.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of that. That seems more of an argument for exaggerated armor and weapon designs and larger people overall, though, rather than an argument for bosses that are comparatively larger, given that none of the games that I know which have comparatively larger bosses have tactical view. All the rpgs that do it are action rpgs.

I was talking about combat animations. One of the biggest complaints about DA 2 combat was that it looked comicy. From everything I've seen so far, it looks like DA:I's combat is way more comicy than even DA 2.

I've never had problems finding a boss or elite mobs in SWTOR, even with other players involved. And they weren't afflicted with gigantism. Sorry, I'm just not seeing a reason for this feature.

Considering that you aren't by any definition the paragon on how people interact with their game devs tend to do this kind of thing in the most oblivious way possible, so stronger/dangerous mob are bigger.

It's called foolproof
