1080p is a resolution, but you can have games looking very different because of poly count and lighting for example. The graphics engine. Not all games have the same needs for cpu or gpu usage, even with the same optimization.
You can run a lot of games in 1080p if you want, it doens't change the fact that, on some cases, it's an upscale of 720p or even lower( i'm looking at you, Vesperia ).
The difference is, your pc, can be upgraded in 1 year so it runs whatever you want better. Consoles can't do that. and the developers have to work with this hardware and its limitations, that are already evident, for like 8 years+.
I was expecting, from the next generation of consoles, something better than 1080p, or at least, something better in cpu processing power or hardware in general. In 4-5 years they will be much further behind compared to how behind their predecessors were.
PS4 is better than PS3. But it's not as better than it, as PS3 was, compared to PS2. I don't know if it was that good of a time to put out the next gen consoles, if they're packing them with this hardware.
They should make some revisions in the future, but if they do, i would feel bad for the people that went and bought them, only to feel that "they're not good enough now, need to get the new one".
Anyway.
