I just finished watching the 48 minute gameplay video and it occurred to me that if Inquisition Soldiers begin to show up in an area more and more as our power increases, then we could end up running those places. So if the Dales fell under Inquisition control....would you give them back to the Elves,...or use them as a bargaining chip with Celene or Gasperd?
Would you give the Dales back to the Elves if given the chance?

In principle, I would like to empower the CEs in the region and give them an independent home. But the practical reality is that there is no way to do this without risking war, or otherwise having the Inquisition operate as a politically motivated military peacekeeping force.
I think the real solution - for a progressive Inquisition - is for the Dales to become an autonomous elven-governed region within Orlais, with the Inquisition troops keeping the balance of power (that is, acting as the Sword of Damocles hanging over Orlais' head) between the human ruler and (new) elven government.
... Thinking about this just makes me sad there's no CE Inquisitor. ![]()

I would give the land to the elves in 1 condition, : They have to accept all elves that want to live there, both city and dalish cause they are few in number and they deserve some peace, and when they are togehter they do not have to be afraid cause they are not slaves anymore.

As long as they had a clear government plan and where not going to try and start a war or anything, absolutely. Humans have loads of human run kingdoms and while I would prefer a multicultural society run by elected officials of any race and no race was dominant, until then having at least one kingdom for Elves seems fair.

If the Dales fell under Inquisition control, that would be our land, so no I wouldn't just give it up for free. It sounds like an odd scenario, however... I'm not sure how a mercenary army is going to control a huge area like that. Do we have citizens that we lord over, or something? Anyway, my answer is no. The Dalish can earn that land on their own if they want it... as I understand it, it's not really the Inquisition's job to get involved in things like that. We're there to stop demons from destroying the world, nothing more.

Definitely. They deserve a land instead of either wandering around or being practically slaves to humans.

I would consider it only after the Breach was closed.
Destabilizing not only the Dales - but all of Orlais - by provided what will obviously become a region of contention once the Breach is closed - is completely counterproductive to my goal of saving the world.
However, I would also not offer the support of the Inquisition after the war. If I was in the position to give them the region, and did so, then it's their job to defend it and keep it.

Hrm.
Why would I give the land to only the Dalish?
However, the Elves were promised that land by the Prophet Andraste, and it would be my failing as her Herald not to do my best to restore it to them amicably.
Unfortunately, there's probably other people living in the Dales now, and it would be very rude to just throw those people out of their homes for the crime of being human.

Yeah I would give the land to the elves.
First playthrough as a Dalish , it just feels like an obvious choice.
My personal thoughts on the matter is Orlais needs to gets a bit of a beat down , they are threatening Ferelden , Celene wants the orlesian culture to spread (no thanks) and Gaspard wants to conquer.
The Dales , from what I've seen , is mostly a not so great place , The Exalted Plains and the forests are hard places to live ...the main thing for the Orlesians is Halamshiral and the Winter Palace , and the city is filled with City Elves.
My main problem is if the Dalish gets the place , they will close borders ...it could be bad for the dwarves living in Orzammar and trading with Orlais.
Also there are humans peasents living there , I'm not Ok with them being kicked out.
But anyway unless The Dalish get the place and have some really crappy ideas , I'll give the land during most of my playthrough.(if it's possible of course.)

Probably. Sounds like drama!
If not the elves, I hope I can give it to the sentient darkspawn.

Uh... haven't there been generations upon generations of Orlesians living in the Dales? It's going to be difficult to dislodge them without resorting to forceful resettlement, which while that would be hilarious ironic for them, it would still create a massive cluster of logistical problems. Couldn't the Elves just try to colonize the Donarks or something?
So, yeah, need to play the game before I make the decision.

Depends which, the Dalish or the City Elves?
Especially since reading the Masked Empire, I developed a strong dislike for most of the Dalish, as it seems they hardly care for their brothers and sisters.
I'd rather actively try to give the City Elves a kingdom of their own. I dunno, in my head, they'd develop (probably after hundreds or thousands of years) to some sort of High Elves, with the Dalish becoming Forrest Elves and kind of bitter that the brethren they've forsaken regained most of their former glory.

I agree. We also have to look at the fact that, if we did give the Dales to the elves wholesale, there's no assurance that Orlais won't just reconquer the region.

There'd be no need to re-settle the Orlesians in the Dales peacefully or forcefully if there aren't any Orlesians to relocate ![]()

Ah, the genocidal maniac method. Fun to try in the moment, but not as much later on when you have to deal with the consequences.

Oh my...
But, anyway, I don't know what I'll do to be honest. I'm thinking "no" for the fact of the Orlesians who are already established and living in the area shouldn't be dislodged forcibly or anything. Also, it depends if the Dalish will allow city elves into their lands or not. Screw 'em if they're not going to be inclusive of elves in general. I will probably be role-playing a Dalish in my first playthrough, so that might influence my decision in such matters.

Eh, if they actually have the power to keep it. If not, there will be another needless slaughter by other kingdoms looking to expand their borders. Even worse if they don't follow the Chantry.

One of the reasons I am tempted to give the Elves control of the Dales is because I hate both Celene and Gaspard, and feel a buffer zone between them and Ferelden would be a good thing. That said....I'd really have to play around with events in DA:O to make this plausible. Say have an Elf be the warden responsible for ending the blight, putting Alister on the Throne, and having some influence on the Ferelden court. From there I might be able to broker some kind of mutual protection deal between Ferelden and we'll call it The Elven Nation until a better name occurs to me, since keeping Orlais out of his lands should appeal to Alister, and the elves could use the support of an established kingdom. Also....if by encouraging people to think of my character (especially if I am an elf) as 'The Herald of Andraste' would allow me to say "Andraste gave the Elves the land, and it was taken away by liars corrupting the makers good word"and use that to get believer in Andraste behind an Elven nation, then I'd accept the title even if I didn't actively encourage it.
That said....after saving the world...I am inclined to turn the Inquisition into a force resembling Babylon 5's Anla'Shok (aka The Rangers). Delenn gives a good example of what I am looking to do at 0:55.
