I'm re-playing through Origins again for the first time in a long time and I notice that everyone in my party hates me. Every time I click on them, they say things in a mean tone of voice and indicate they are not happy with me. Even my dog whimpers and acts odd when I address him. What am I doing wrong?

i don't know what you are doing, but their approval must be low, do you have the feastday gifts?
Maybe it's because you're ugly.
Considering Dog is always at max approval no matter what, that's probably it.
Right at the beginning of the game your approval with them should be neutral which could result in them being a bit snappy. Your dog starts out with 100% approval, so I don't know how you managed or what you did.
Dog might be injured. Feed him an injury kit or some mabari crunch.
Yeah, Dog's probably injured. The rest of your party is probably just neutral right now if you're at the start of the game. It's easy to gain approval in that game though, just agree with them whenever you can.
It's because you forgot their birthday.
As the others said, Dog is probably injured. He whimpers and recoils when he has suffered an injury. The rest of your team hasn't reached at least "warm" approval yet, which is why they are snarking at you. They will get warmer and fuzzier the more they like you. 
This is actually a bug - I thought it was more widely known.
The way they respond to you is tied in to their approval of you. But thanks to a bug, we get the 'disapproval' response instead of the 'neutral' response, meaning they always start out with the 'disapproval' response until you get them to positive approval, when the correct response will trigger.
Though Dog is an odd one because he should have 100% approval. Don't know what's happening with him.
^^Yes, dog only whimps down when he is injured^^ I always hated the responses from party members before you get them friendly. Alistair's says "Do this.. do that" ... Give them gifts and things will improve 
Wow I didn't know that about dog. I guess it is true and you can teach this old dog a new trick.
