My CPU is a single Intel Xeon quad-core. Maybe a multi-core issue?
ASUS P5E3 Deluxe Mobo
Audio adapter is a SB Fata1ity X-thingy.
My version was downloaded through Steam.
I changed monitor resolution and all the graphics options and it still crashed.
The first time it crashed was near the end of the Duncan-King dialogue.
It did not crash again until Alistair joined and I was tooling around the Priest area.
From that point, it won't go 30 seconds without crashing.
Driver version is irrelevant. I wasted my time trying everything from 9.2 to 9-10.
I'm pretty sure it's the video card that is failing, but it is clearly being caused by the DAO application.

6 gigs Ram
Vista
Phenom Quad Core proc
First crash happened in Ostregar around the time I got to the second group of darkspawn. When I reloaded I was in the beginning area of Ostregar at the autosave. I can get to the wounded soldier, and it crashes within about 30 seconds of reaching that area. Odd it let me so far into the area at first, and now it crashes immediately. Also, this appears to be a video card specific lock up, it goes black screen and then I get a no signal error on my screen.

I am about to try building another character and rushing to the same point.
I'm using an Nvidia 9600mGT on my notebook running windows XP. I am not convinced my crash is hardware related just yet.

I'm extremely upset that I wasted my money on this. I've seen so many similar issues on here and other forums with identical issues, not just with ATI cards, that there has to be something up with this game. I definitely don't believe it's primarily hardware related.

AMD Athlon 64x2 4200 @2210Mhz
3.49 gigs 'Visible' to XP home edition
hard to recreate seems random have not yet spoken to king n Ducan to see if this will cause a crash
...also thinking of turning of V sync for that had helped with some crash issues to desktop for other games.
Nvidia 8600 GT Driver 191.07

Doesn't seem like all of you have exactly the same hardware but... could it be an overheating issue? I haven't been checking frame rates, temps or anything, but I wonder if the card is being taxed? Do any of you overclock? My card is only a 8800 GT 512, though I do have the graphic settings maxxed. The only thing I do know is that my comp runs very cool under high loads. Maybe one of you can monitor temps as you run the game and look for a spike. Does turning down the graphic settings in that area make a difference?
I already noticed that the game seems to be making my gfx card run rather hot but I cranked up the fan speed after noticing this and it isn't an issue during the origin stories. I managed to actually move around a bit in Ostegar with my settings all at the lowest but was still getting a lot of glitchy movement like lag and eventually crashed.

TEMP: +45c idle - +60c Load.
Phenom2 QuadCore 2.8ghz clocked to 3.0ghz.
TEMP: +38c Idle - +50c Load
4x1024 DDR2 Ram.
TEMP: Pretty darn cool.
Screen goes into "No Signal" or "White & Black Lines", 5-10 seconds after i'v talked to alistar with my City Elf Rogue.
I hope they decide to fix this, because it's obviously not a driver issue.
And if they dont, i want my money back. v_v;
Edit:
Seeing as this is 1 month old already, i'm guessing they wont be fixing this error anytime soon.
Bioware are nvidia fanboys like funcom too?

Edit: Action Center wanted to help with the problem so I let it. Even though error reporting said it was a problem with DAO.exe the solutions thing said it was caused by ATI drivers stopping working properly. Might try 9.12 but that hasn't been proven to be a sure fix.

I was hoping that windowed mode would at least let me shut down the crashed game, but the entire desktop resolution gets forked and i cant do anything but restart.
I also heard that, if you have a DualCore or QuadCore CPU, you should put the game to run on only 1 core, and that would help, but that only made it worse for me.. crashed instantly after loading the game. XD
Anyways, Majic8bull, if the new drivers works for you, let us know?

Thou i fear it might not work with my HD 5870 card.. :/
So if you have an ATi Radeon HD 3870, or more specificly, the GeCube OC Edition, this should fix the No-Signal Crash!
Strange how the game runs perfectly up until Ostegar.. then just crashes all the time. :S

Windows 7 64bit and XP Pro 32 bit - Same hardware. I had XP on separate Hard Drive.
The forced restarts actually killed my XP install and apparently the Hard Drive it was on. No longer detected by system. So now I using only Windows 7. I'm afraid to keep restarting in fear that my Windows 7 install becomes corrupt.
Hd3870 9.7 then 9.12 drivers. No help.
8gb ram, core 2 duo 3.0ghz, Tuner Card. Very high airflow case so not likely heat issues.
The game crashes in same spot on two entirely different operating systems. I'm very close to selling this game off since it's unplayable. Sad, my wife got this for me for Christmas.
I suggest Bioware at least admit there is a problem or it is apparent they may loose quite a few customers.

Any save game that starts in Ostegar crashes in a couple of seconds.
I've sent a ticket to tech support hopefully they have an answer.
This is very disappointing. Makes me think twice about buying a Bioware game again.

I will certainly advise my associates to avoid Bioware products until they have been out for several months to a year if this issue is not quickly addressed. I was looking forward to Star Wars: The Old Republic as well as Mass Effect 2. However if this is the experience and support I can expect I will avoid these products until they have been thoroughly reviewed and have tenure.

So many moderators.. So few answers.. Infact, NO answers!
This is enraging me!
I say we all pick up our keyboards and go nerd rage outside BioWare HQ.
Edit:
I'v tried to contact Customer Support as well, for some answers from thier side..
But they are completly ignoring my questions, not even giving me any response at all.
It's only been 2 days, i guess they could be busy with other questions, but we'll see.
Right now it doesnt look good, and if this continues, i guess i'll have to call my lawyer.. v_v;
