Are you going to release a demo version or some kind of programm to test if ones system comply with the requirements?

I only own a laptop and even with a programm like SiSoftware Sandra Lite which shows all parts of the engine, I can't say if my laptop will run Inquisition. Because the graphik chip is somehow interwined with the cpu. So I don't know if it'll reach 512 mb RAM.

OS: WIndows 7 or 8.1 64-bit Check! (Windows 7 64-bit)

CPU: AMD six-core CPU @ 3.2 GHz / Intel quad-core CPU @3.0 GHz Failed AMD Phenom II x4 965BE 3.4 Ghz

System RAM: 8 GB Check! 8GB

Graphics Card: AMD Radeon HD 7870 or R9 270 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 660 Check! AMD Radeon R9 270X

Graphics Card Memory: 2 GB Check! 2GB

Hard Drive Space 26 GB Check!

DirectX 11 Check! DirectX 11 and Mantle

So my only problem is my CPU, which is below the recommended system requirements, but I get great performance increases when using Mantle in Battlefield 4 and Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare, so I'm optimistic.

I wrote in another thread about OC the CPU. If you have a CPU that just make the recommended, or minimum, specs you can always consider overclocking it.

For example; recently I overclocked my i5-2500k 3.3Ghz to 4.3Ghz. Gave me a nice boost and all you need is a good cooling solution that does not have to be expensive. I used a Cooler Master Hyper 212 evo, quite cheap I think (around 35$). At least it's a lot cheaper than having to buy a new CPU, and motherboard if your PC is too old.

What exactly is video memory?

Where do I find it and why is it important?

I think this is the first time Ive noticed that in system reqs :P

All GPU's have video memory, or shares it with the system RAM. In windows you can always see yours by right clicking on the desktop and choose screen resolution and advanced settings.

Video RAM is where the game's textures (among other things) are placed. Much like music files are put in the system memory to later be read by the game for music playback, graphical assets are put in the video memory so that the graphics card can use them to put beautiful pictures on your screen.

Many non-gaming laptops have a memory bank which is shared between graphics card and the system in general. Most other computers will separate video- and system memory. It's much more efficient performance-wise to have dedicated video memory instead of having the graphics card snoop around the CPU's memory banks when it's running out of cash.

You should have no problems.

I went through the thread and since there seem to be some people with good knowledge. Do you appreciated folk think this laptop can run it (I'm copying the specs out of a programm):

Overall memory: 3.63 GB DDR3 SO-DIMM

CPU: Intel Core i5-3337U CPU @ 1,8 GHz ; Speed: 2,7 GHz; invariant Speed: 1,8 GHz; min-max-turbo Speed: 800 MHz-1,8 GHz-2,7 GHz

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 4000

Since the GPU seems to be somehow intertwined with the CPU there isn't a GPU memory listed.

Thanks

Battlefield 4 is the only sure way to know if you can run DAI. You could buy it and then return it for a full refund within 24 hours on Origin.

I wouldn't hold out for a demo, it sounds kind of risky since demos were the usual route to hacking executables and I doubt DICE would be happy if their engine was compromised by BW.

Edit: just saw you have an Intel HD4000, sorry to say but you have no chance of running DAI with that. But just to make sure, you don't have two GPUs?? E.g. my laptop possesses both an Intel HD4000 and an AMD Radeon 7730M, and it is a bit of a pain when programmes detect the former but not the latter.

i7 3770k @ 4.3ghz

GTX 680 2gb

16 gig ram

My CPU is probably pretty darn strong and I guess I can wait with upgrading my GFX a little while longer(closer to Witcher 3) since it seems I will have a fairly pleasant experience with this setup going by the recommended specs:)

Not sure it can even handle lowest setting considering built-in GPU. I would say no, but you can always try.

I was about to suggest you do that, but you should be fine. The only way you'll know for sure is if you experiement with it once you get your hands on the game.

Just finished testing BF4, seems to run very well as long as I lower the 'effects quality' to high and use 2x MSAA. I can live with that. :D

I'm not knowledgeable about laptop models, but I googled a bit. This is all based on the results of 5 minutes of research, so I could be missing something.

From what I can see, your Intel HD Graphics 4000 circuit is similar in speeds to a Geforce 7600 GT. This is below the minimum requirements. Your memory amount risks being too low even on the lowest settings, as well. The minimum requirements ask for 4 GB system memory and 512 MB video memory, which leaves you 512 MB video memory short.

On top of this, while your CPU is capable of something called hyper-threading (basically smart computer engineering that somewhat allows a processor to calculate two things at once), yours is ultimately a dual-core and not a quad-core even if those two cores could potentially perform 4 calculations at once. The speed itself of those cores is fine, however.

Had your system come up short in either of these three areas alone, I would have said you could probably play the game on the lowest settings. But if you're not planning on upgrading to a better computer in the near future, I find it difficult to recommend you to purchase DAI for PC using any other platform than Origin. Using Origin, I believe you can use their Great Game Guarantee to return the game for a full refund in case the game doesn't run well enough for your tastes. And I'm sadly more than slightly worried you will indeed be disappointed.

I'd say, not a chance. The Intel HD graphics chipsets are not meant for gaming. Very few games support them.

I would wait on benchmarks before stating this as fact. It will make a difference depending on what you're playing on. Unless you're on a tight budget it's smart to get as much VRAM as you can right now on cards. Games have not normalized in their recommended specs and are already eating away at 980s 4GB VRAM. That said, they only have a few cards that can fully utilize 3GBs of VRAM properly.

I have 7870 XT and I can play Battlefield 4 with everything on ultra, with 54 fps, I don't see why I won't be able to do that in DAI

more an more games do. crysis3 can utilize up to 10 or 12 threads, and BF4 and Watch Dogs have a better performance with activated HT.

yep, your graphic card is the bottleneck. i would start at low settings and increase them until i reach the best balance between quality and performance.

take the R9 280. similar performance, but 3GB VRAM and usually well overclockable. if its DDR3 RAM reuse it, if its DDR2 it wont fit in the slots. i assume you have an OEM-PC so i would replace the PSU with a good ~450W model from a quality brand (again for example SeaSonic or Enermax).

Thanks. Is there a way to check the RAM to see if it is ddr3 or 2? I swore when I bought the extra 4GB I bought DDR3 cause DDR5 was too expensive, but besides pulling it out, any other way?

With the PSU, any way to know what its W is besides opening up the case and seeing? Considering how old the computer is, and how dusty, I may need to get a new case, any suggestions on a decent cheap case?

Once again, thank you for everything you have been incredibly helpful

Yep, you can run at ultra settings or at least a mix of ultra/very high settings.

My 660GTX seems to be good ennough for Ultra settings.

Gotta agree with Deathangel. But High or even a mix of High & Ultra (depends on the game, really) should be possible if the rest of your rig is equally "good".

Then again, if you don't mind playing with 40-50 fps, go for it.

You should be fine being on mid settings at least (if you want everything to run smoothly, others will probably say you could run higher or should go lower) :)

I don't use laptops to play on myself so my knowledge is limit.

Another thing to add (since quite a few here seems to play on laptops) is that playing on laptop you can go lower than 1080p, it will still look good because of the smaller screen.

Edit: Since this post was directed towards everyone who play on laptops I made it a separate post.
